@PLAMBERT;YES if you wish you can drive a trailer
that is over 4.00m high, How ever if you do not have
the permits for transport of STGO for each country that it is required for, then youHAVE TO FOLLOW the EU laid down rules which state Trailer height for normal International traffic is 4.00mEven if the bridges are high enough where ever you travel to,

Well Pete best get onto Schmitz; who are perhaps the largest trailer manufacturer in the EU, I have ordered Mega trailers from them and they come in at 4040mm - a standard trailer used in many part of the developed world - and Portugal!
I bow to your knowledge of EU law but the reality on the road and what is enforced is very different to what is imposed from Strasbourg.
Plambert:
but the reality on the road and what is enforced is very different to what is imposed from Strasbourg.
That is quite true and always will be so
Yes I agree, with the statement about about the real world, now here is my question for you ask SCHMITZ WHAT is the position ,when they sell such a trailer in Germany, in germany, the (ABE)CU is null and void, if the equipment is breaking the law,and we have 4:00M HEIGHT HERE BY LAW;;
The officals ,here will if they catch you,Fine you, get you to drop the height(if that is possible),transfer the load to another trailer if Not, and then ■■■■■■ you to the border out of the country(you pay for the police ■■■■■■), Only if you have a special permit with a laid down
route would they allow you to travel inside germany,

biggusdickusgb:
i dont even think there is a maximum height in the UKI think you’ll find there is, we used to move loads between 17’ and 18’ 6" and anything over 16’6" had to be accopanied by a movement order, usally a telex from each police force that you were passing through. unless this has changed.
you’ll have to find it for me dieseldog, because i can’t.
you might be restricted on your movements with a very high trailer, but i can’t find a height limit
length, width, weights, they’re all there but nothing about heights.
brit pete:
4:00M HEIGHT HERE BY LAW;;
Germany is not the rest of europe
- nearly all of the airfreight trucks running from Amsterdam to Frankfurt are at least 4 mtrs 10 (I used to drive them)
- is there such a thing as a car transporter loaded with 4 mtr height or less ? very doubtful
@ Vas, the EU and the OTHER COUNTRYS;have laid down the
limit and not Germany,AND YES as pointed out people are
breaking this law, (GOOD LUCK to them ); ROUTIER;; wanted the OFFICAL;LEGAL height, for a trailer doing International
traffic, THis is 4.00m and if you wish to FLOUT that ruleing(law), then by all means , myself and those who also answered was to inform what is the law, and so legal way to
transport goods, as laid down by the offical bodies,

Airfreight trailers are interesting and illegal, many, I know for definate the Talson because I am an agent, have sloping rooves. So when Lufthansa measure the back doors they are 3m as per there requirements, but stand at around 4.1m; however when the Swiss get there measuring stick out and measure the front corner as they invariably do, hey presto 4m, we call them the Concorde roof. You really can’t tell with the naked eye the 100mm slope over 13.6m, unless its parked right next to a straight edge.
The reason we have such generous bridge clearance heights in the UK is that our motorway network was designed to allow the Americans to cart their nuclear weapons around the UK in the 1960s.

You dont HAVE TO FOLLOW any rules if you dont want to! Just be prepared for some fines.

what would interest me to know is do you actually stick to all these rules that you continually quote ?
Vas I became a born again driver exactly
7 years ago after i learnt my lesson and
not getting, the rewards that
I and a few other drivers belived we was due.
as for the over height trailer I have never driven one
as the work i do is mainly road barrels, and containers.
the last 23years,::WE ALL know in real life rules sre broken
which is great until , the day comes you have a load on with
a deadline and the germans, belgians whoever do a check,
Stop you moveing, Fine you, and THEN have to get the load transferred, then last of all you and the complete vehicle get escorted out of the country, by the police(which you have to pay for)this is what can happen if you are cught in Germany,
brit pete.
I’ve pulled trailers from Rotterdam to Athens at 4.2m.For Richard Kempers.
Used to catch the Ancona-Patra ferry,Either back to Bari or Venice.
Even been thro’ le tunnel du chat at that height.
My last job for a French firm was mostly at 5m high.
The boss would bollock drivers for refusing loads so high.
But then phone me for the route. The firm was TLS.
All Norbert Dentressangles tautliners are 4.15m.
The bridge at Sées is 4.15m even tho’ it’s signed 4.0M.
Dave,retired French driver.
That post, with a link to the European max height agreement is the Euro Drivers Info Point.
The max heights for each country are here.
(The International Transport Forum has grown from the European Conference Of Ministers Of Transport.)
You’ll see the height limit for the UK, France, Norway and Sweden is listed as undefined.
For almost everywhere else (in Europe), it’s listed as 4.0m.
@Dave , this all started if you look at the first post
WHAT IS the LEGAL height for Trailers on INTERNATIONAL
transport, if you look through all the posts ,we know that in real life rules are broken; WHICH if you wish to do is you god given right, but ROUTIER wished to know the Legal height,ALLOWED;
Yes brit pete. But there is NO legal height limit in France
or The Uk (my knowledge of the Irish republic is non existant)
When I loaded wood from Germany to France (no autobahns-
no Maut)we ran at 4.2 m.My boss cut all the tilts down to flatbeds
as the krauts wouldn’t help to strip 13m roofbars.
As I’m now 52 & retired my boss drops the sheets at my house for
repair. He & his wife pay me with a meal as any monies would be taxed.
30 odd years as a driver taught me a bit of sense. If I hadn’t smoked
or drank so little ,who knows?

You don’t need knowledge, all you have to do is follow the link I posted and look it up.

Where you get these horror visions from is absolutely beyond me honestly, I have worked for British, German, Dutch and Spanish companies and yes on occasion I/company have been fined for this and that which is part of the risk involved when the gaffer says go for it. But really there is no need to keep on trying to scare the proverbial out of all those who are not yet as experienced as others.
Where did my pic go? !!!
