from what a remember, class 7 test is 3000 to 3500kg good’s vehicle only, I suspect it be classed as a motorhome, so class 4 test…

My DCPC trainer said you cant drive a unit with only a C licence.I told him he was spouting horlicks he was not a happy bunny.I believe that lots of people deliver units and never tow trailers.C licence has to be the answer.

If you heard it on a DCPC course either consider it complete ■■■■■ or verify it before hanging your licence on it.

Absolutely only a cat C. Its a ridged vehicle.

The next line from the said CPC trainer will likely be “you can if you can remove the 5th wheel…”

That is utter bullocks. It doesn’t become CE until you hang a ■■■■■■■ trailer off it.

This DCPC ■■■■ is going to end up with blokes in court for following the advice of these ■■■■■■■■■

FTFY

I’d love to see a Topline Scania with a ■■■■ off engine drawing a tiny car trailer

Take a V8 700 hp Scania to the South of France towing a camping trailer or a caravan.

Hiya i was talking to Stan a few years ago. HE told me it was classed as a motorhome. one of the reasons he couldn’t get
normal test was the headlights was to high and he didn’t want to chop the front up everything else was do able.
I called in to his place on day sneaking a look, then Stan must have spent 2 hours showing me his outfit, great chap.

No Scania I know, but for some reason my XF SSC has a 50mm ball hitch on the back - so it can be arranged! Think of the look of the local tip staff!

If the turntable is taken off the unit would it be classed as a rigid

If the turntable is taken off the unit would it be classed as a rigid

but no need to take it off to drive with C licence

quote from DD link

No modifications are required to the unit, especially not the ever popular - “You must remove/disable/cover the 5th wheel” nonsense. That was something from many years ago and related to driving a unit on an ordinary car licence. You don’t have to take the tow hitch off a car if you don’t have B+E or the draw-bar coupling from a rigid if you don’t have C+E in order to drive either of those vehicles.

it is classed as a rigid anyway :unamused:

hence the category C+E

C = Rigid

E = Trailer

FFS, it’s not rocket science :unamused:

Sorry mate, stopped reading after this :smiley:

Not only do they know nothing but they also don’t know anything. If that makes sense.

We have a poster in our traffic office that was specially printed for drivers to remind them of the Tacho and WTD rules. It says that you must complete 30 minutes of break by the end of a 6 hour working period but you can split it into two 15s :unamused:

The fifth wheel turntable confusion comes from the very old revoked HGV rules where any part of an artic needed the driver to have a class 1
