Tour driver for entertainment industry

Hi there guys!

Couple months ago I have given up driving for HGV’s for Tesco etc. for advantage of job as coach driver in French Alps. I have being paid 3 times less but it has still being one of best things I’ve ever done.

Now season is going towards the end and I’ll be looking for new employment. I’m fairly young (29) physically fit, no family commitments and looking for new challenges. I’m fancy myself working as “tour driver” (if this is correct tittle). Sound’s like job and lifestyle would suits me and I would suit it too .

I have done little of googling around but thought I would still ask for advice of what companies I should get in touch with? I’m mainly interested in EU work, but can do UK as well. Any further advices you could give me regarding this subject?

Many thanks,
Peter

definietly fancy those!

Funny enough I have applied with them before… only trouble is that pay is about 40£ a week. And I wouldn’t mind this that much however as I have done winter season for small many I was thinking about “stage trucks” to do both fun and little bit money.

Thanks for suggestion. Keep them coming!

Yes, the pay isn’t good, it’s mostly for people who want to do what the punters are doing except for free and with pocket money. For pay, a rock and roll firm, TransAm, Fly by Nite etc

Thats for the ■■■■■■■■ only :open_mouth: !

I would have liked to have done it in my younger days, loved to even, but some things just aren’t in the stars and nowadays I have grown-ups obligations. :stuck_out_tongue:

money can be made but as with all companies you need to work your way up,
theres a few tour truckies on here, i am one of them. can be very tough to get into though

Willingness to be flexible.Like being good with a rifle and fit as and when required for infantry duties when there’s no tanks needed to be taken anywhere.Don’t forget you can’t change your mind after you’ve signed up. :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

Good list thank you. I’m quite serious about this job and from having little information here and there I think I would seriously fit this kind of job. What do you exactly mean by saying to work my way up? I’m quite happy to do it got about 7 years of HGV class 1 driving already and would jump into this industry any advices how to improve my chances?
I have technical education past and I’m interested in audio visual equipment therefor I would be quite happy to being involved in stage setups, wiring, lighting etc.

Many thanks.
Peter

Nope not the same people! Transam Trucking don’t even have their own website but run over 100 trucks on tour work from Norfolk. If you want to just do tour driving you wont be helping out with lighting, stage set up etc you will be only expected to drive,be first into catering, nick all the towels for showering & complain about the lack of landlines at the venue!

Try EAUKDS LTD at Trowbridge in Wiltshire, or Stage Electrics in Bristol.

I’ve worked for both Fly By Nite and Stage Truck; I wouldn’t recommend Stage Truck.

Transam are near impossible to get into but their pay is the best of all the touring companies, £130 per day. Transam will start you off on double drives to see what you’re like, you won’t initially get onto tours as a tour driver.

Stage Truck are currently recruiting. ST pay £60 per day on music or £80 per day on what they term ‘general haulage’. It’s not proper general haulage but it’s easy and it’ll take you around France, Italy and Spain. Depending on their requirements, you could start on tours or you’ll start on general.

Fly By Nite haven’t any vacancies at the moment, except for double drivers. I know that because I spoke to their Ops Manager last week. After working for ST I would highly recommend FBN… A large proportion of ex-ST drivers work for FBN, what does that say about ST?

There’s also Stardes, McGuiness, KB Events, Fieldings, Luckings, Paul Matthew, Matthew Kibble and so on.

If you have a bus licence, you could try Beat The Street/Phoenix (they’re essentially the same company), Jumbocruiser, Crossland (Crossland run both trucks and buses) or Coach Services/Trucking Services (located in Germany but require English speaking drivers).

Furthermore, music is about to kick off massively… Few toured last year due to the Olympics so most of the tour companies are rammed with tours this year. For example, ST will be needing 105 vehicles this year due to many of their tours overlapping.
