Tossco Wag n Drag

Saw a Tossco wagon and drag today for first time, logistically logical I suppose but are they used for Tossco Express type stores? Looked like the trailer was on a dolly but maybe wrong. Anyone driving one?

saw one last night for the first time at avonmouth…cant think why they would need to use one really,it was the type that has a door on the front of the trailer as well as the back so they can unload the truck through the trailer??whats the point?

That’s prob for loading at RDC rather than unloading!

The Point is - the prime mover is ideal for delivering to tight forecourts & little shops, and bang the drag on for trunking between depots,

this is what the parcel monkeys do, use the prime mover on C&D work during the day, bang the drag on at night for trunking, when they back on the bay, both doors on the drag open, lower the drawbridge, load straight through,
Oh yeah, and 2 more lifts than an artic, win,win

Correct, thought up by a driver who had a holiday to the Caribbean for his efforts, or so the story goes.

They r used for express stores we have 1 for Aberdeen another supposed to be coming next month

Only being used out of fresh DC’s. The way I understand it is they are only being used for express & metro stores. Instead of 2 drivers and vehicles going to do maybe 3 stores each they will send the 6 stores on 1 wagon & drag vehicle and 1 driver will deliver to the stores.

I am based at Livingston we use for express stores only fresh + grocery for 4 stores in Aberdeen long shifts

Why call them ‘Tossco’? Is it because theyre deemed not to employ proper ■■■■■■■■■ fat as ■■■■ ruffy tuffy drivers and dont buy blinged up eminox’d Scanias?

Wot ? They dont employ proper drivers? Real drivers like me who steer with our beer bellys whilst using both hands to make up another rollie? My boss did a speel chek on my tattoos to make sure they wasnt spelt rite. Don`t wanna ruin our image do we?

I’ve been doing Tesco work (for a subbie) out of Avonmouth since I left Virginia and its fantastic work, love it. Should have done this year’s ago. Now let me see if I can upload a picture of the drawbar I took a pic of in there the other day as I thought it looked really smart.

I’ve also become a fan of the rails that mean you never have to clamber onto the catwalk

Theyve posted the wrong way round but you get the drift

Its a good place to work, rich is a good boss who keeps his drivers.

Other drivers can say what they like Tossco, bean counting whatever, I know when I’m onto a good thing.

Whenever I did supermarket work, my main beef was with the tossers in the warehouse who would find a cage with a wonky wheel and load it up with beer, while the good ones got loo rolls. A lesser problem was with the geographically challenged planners who were quite capable of send ing me out from Worcester with two drops - Solihull and Hull…

The wagon and drag that we have at tesco Dagenham that ive been trained up on does around 5 east Essex express stores a day.the whole outfit travels to a Colchester extra store to drop off the trailer then the prime does 2/3 drops at express stores and loads the recycling, returns to the big extra then recycling and remianingstock are transferred and the prime does 2 very local Colchester express loads the recycling recoupled at Colchester extra then the whole outfit returns to Dagenham D.C…normally 11/12 hr day

That actually makes a lot of sense. Always wondered why they used a frames as opposed to artics.

Question: Why don’t pallet types use drawbars more? More load length.

That sounds like hrd work! Are there any compartments for chilled or are they just dry?

A frames and draw bars are different.

Wag + drag does carry 2 more pallets +/- than an artic, but not normally double deck, so then the artic carries more.
Also, less flexibility, an artic can carry a 45’ long item, and occasionally does believe it or not…, whereas that’s impossible on a wag + drag outfit.

It’s got a fridge unit on top of the prime mover, so I’d assume it’ll have a seperator. Mainly because I can’t see one on the drag, and nobody wants chilled bread etc.

Truck and trailer are both twin compartment so it has 4 zones that can run at 4 different temps.the outfit has 3 engines so must vhave cost a mint.generally it runs at 1+ with shrouds over sensitive cages that need to be warmer.the fridge on the trailer is underslung
