Well THERE’S A SURPRISE EH!
I’ll be looking for your thread next week asking the members about other trucking companies in your area.
Thanks igadam, thats how im looking at it. its experience at the end of the day.

Well done now the learning starts
You are right there friar tuck and thanks very much.
Ive got a week in the depot then 2 weeks with another driver learning the ropes then out by myself and am really looking forward to it. determined not to let them down.
Let us know how you go on Nat. You could end up breaking the record for the longest time there.
Im going to give it a go Rob, after a complete change in direction after the navy, so the hard work doesnt phase me, but i will keep you posted
Congrats mate, you never know… you might enjoy it Like Jenny says it becomes a bit of a nightmare when you can’t find places and can’t find anywhere to stop etc. It’s worth bearing in mind that those of us with the 3663 hatred (like myself) have done this sort of work on agency so you never get time to learn where places are etc. so it’s always going to be a bit of a traumatic experience! It’ll be like this for you at first I’m sure but you’ve just got to think that when you get your own run sorted after a few goes at it you’ll know what the crack is and it’ll be a piece of ■■■■.
James Bateman:
Natsdad,a few years back i did some similar type work to 3663 ( Costcutters ) long hours, hard graft etc:
I just got it in my head that i was being paid while " working out " dropped a fair bit of weight, which as i was a fat git,i needed to do.
It worked for me and i saved up quite a few quid.
Go in for the interview and ask them straight away, when can i start ?
Nice attitude. Many lorry drivers could do with a good workout
Some folks pay £50 a month to run on running machines in the gym. At least at a place like 3663 you’re getting paid for it.
I could do with losing my, erm spare tyre. They did say there was “some not very nice places to get a lorry into” deliveries, but you are right, after time and when i get my own route, itll be a bit easier, i hope.
Hi Natsdad
Congratulations mate told you the job was yours !!!
Now make the most of getting valuable experience they pay reasonably good money by the sounds of it so everyone is a winner , if your learning the job with another driver your one step ahead of me as i went in under agency and they basically say theres the truck theres the addresses see ya later , but you have the advantage of learning the route with someone who can help you with little bits of info like the best way in to a delivery and you have the back up of someone with you so you wont feel all alone whilst your out for your first few drives the first time you go out on your own you will more than likely be on a familiar route so will feel more calm than i did the first few times i was out , just a thought ive done a couple of nights shunting this past week and if you get the chance do it ive spent more time going backwards this week than forwards and my confidence reversing now is great ive driven eighteen different vehicles as well so be it only in 2nd / third or reverse !!! But all good valuable experience thats how you gotta look at it your using them to practice so you become that brill driver that every company wants on their books and you can then pick and choose the work you like best see what im getting at its all experience and companies always want someone who can turn theyre hand to owt you will be more employable so get out there and show em what you can do
best of luck and enjoy it too
Jennie x
Thanks jennie,
i think i could do with some reversing practice so i might ask whoever im out with if i can do most of the backing in. think im in the depot first and out with the experienced driver for 2 weeks, bur i am looking forward to it, itll be a total change from my present job, which is what i want. Im of the thinking that they are willing to give me a chance being brand new so ill try to be the best i can for them, learn quickly and prove myself as a competent and valuable driver…if that makes sense.
Ive got a feeling that they will do my cpc aswell, so hopefully ive got in just at the right time.
Ill keep you posted on how it goes
good for you Natsdad
Thanks James. Ive read a lot of negative things on here about them, but theres some good things aswell.
I think anyone you work for has bad points, but im sure the good ones will outweigh them.
Ive now got the chance to find out for myself
Paul
Congrats Natsdad! Hope it goes well and keep us posted. I heard 3663 and Brakes are amongst the better ones.
I do chilled/frozen delivery work too, but on a smaller scale. Lugging crates and boxes to pubs and independent trade instead of pallets and cages to national chains.
It IS hard work especially when you are just given a list of addresses and a Sat Nav that likes taking you down bridle paths and the wrong way round one way systems. Once you get used to your round it gets much easier plus you end up with more free cups of tea than you can drink and a few bacon sarnies along the way.
You get used to the physical work quickly although you will probably bust a few knuckles squeezing your cages through narrow doorways and get mad at cars parking in loading bays … grrr bane of my life
Whenever it seems like hard work try to remember you could be sitting in a mundane office job or on a tedious factory line. When I worked in offices/factories I was always looking at the clock waiting for 5PM. Now I look at the clock and think ‘Holy cow its 11AM and I still have 6 drops to do’ This is a job where you pray for more time instead of praying the day would finish faster!
Good luck!
Thanks squiddy,
It will be a challenge and i know itll be hard work, but like you say, i couldnt work in an office and want a total change in a new job.
Im looking forward to it and no doubt will get out of it, what i put in.
Paul
