Complaints have started to surface regarding these; Crap at pulling away (autos) and not as easy to drive/reverse on the tip…
The only advantage i found on an auto truckmixer was that it was the end of expensive clutch of replacements ,in fact transmission problems generally,.mind you they gave up easily in getting to discharge point-not a bad thing really as some sites required a mixer mounted on a Sherman ,heavier on fuel as well. ------toshboy

What power is in this? 310 or 360 I guess?
Lad in the quarry had one, 04-reg. Awful for backing onto the paver. I saw him nearly knock the paver driver off the back one day. Tickle the gas and it goes back like a ■■■■■! I assumed they’d be better now, 7 years on…maybe not!
They’re 360s, not sure how many litres they are although the manuals “grunt” when moving away, not a whining-roar that the Alphas do. Dont know what the mpg is for the autos but when I drove one of the 57 plate manuals, it was around the 9 mark-just under my Foden, which surprises a lot of people.

Will probably be 9litre I would have thought, 360 is the most you’ll get before going to 11-litre. 9-ish MPG sounds about right to me on local/medium distance work. My old Leyland Daf 270 (Euro 2) used to do 9 round town and 10-10.5 on a good run. My new Hino does 8-8.5 local stuff and 9-9.5 on a run which cheers me up no end when I fill up!
The manual Dafs are 9 speed, which is fine for non motorway work but the revs are quite high on the limiter. Smiths Concrete have got 360s with 9 speed boxes in some of their 8wheel mixers and the drivers hate them…
Had to smile this morning; Left one of the new Dafs behind on the A40 (so much for “old fashioned” Fodens ) , and the W reg 4000 series 6wheeler was seen on the back of a low loader heading North on the A34.

W844 ULN is on Ebay this afternoon $5,500 wanted if anyone fancies it!
I’ve heard we got almost £3k for it. They’ll have to fix the clutch brake and rocker box…oh and those wings have been welded a few times aswell cgi.ebay.co.uk/FODEN-■■■■■■■■■■■ … 2eb3d6a73c
Here’s one of the pics (I wonder what Mr Smith will think )
It quotes “security system”. That would be the crap Celect immobiliser that arms about 10 seconds after you’ve turned the engine off; Forget the button sequence on a busy weighbridge and you’ll be popular (as I discovered once )
No bids as yet…I’m not experienced in used truck buying and selling but surely £5500 is a lot for a wagon of that age (given that that model was well out of date by then). An OD would probably need to put a replacement body on as the payload’s not great with that big Harsh steel body…

It would be worth more than 3k to break wouldn’t it Nathan, then again I suppose your firm don’t do any of that.
Cheers Dave.
We’ve got a W reg tractor unit that’s being broken for spares to keep the 4000s going. It needed a lot of work doing to it during the credit crunch so it was withdrawn to provide spares for the others. That one on Ebay was a good 'un it only started to feel tired the last couple of times I drove it. I’dve been happy to drive it regularly if it’d been restored and had a weigher fitted to it. I’d rather drive a lorry fit for purpose rather than just for the badge or the registration…
