Yes Steve, he’s still about. If you’re on the A34 between Didcot and Bicester, you’ll most likely see Dad (02 reg) or Phil (52 reg) Fodens doing Smiths Concrete, Blackthorn out of Hansons Sutton Courtenay and Kidlington sidings. Quite possibly the most unpopular run at the moment.

Part of Smiths Constructions’ Plant fleet, this Cat 953C is in practically the same condition as when it was new in the mid '90s as it’s regular driver, Dave Smallbone changes his boots to drive it. :sunglasses:
You don’t need an auto tailgate when Dave’s around, he’s undone the pin for me with the bucket and not so much as scratched the paint.

Thanks buddy , are they getting rid of Phils Foden ?

I believe so; Might see them at St Giles or Witney Feast next year

I see this driving around Bicester this afternoon, not a very clear pic sorry

I think that Scania suits the Smith livery .

Forgot to say Nathan , let “the boy” know who I am as I keep flashing my spot lights and he must wonder "who the huck is that "

Nice to get a pre-livery one for the thread. I think a rest cab should’ve been specced, I reckon it’ll look odd.
Jakey, I reckon you could be right if they buy Scania 8wheelers then they’d suit but I think that one looks like a supermarket wagon.
Probably just blown my chances of a return to driving with that
 :stuck_out_tongue:

Just come from Heyfordian after being painted, saw it parked outside earlier.

This looked very clean this morning.

Dad got a sneak preview in his new motor yesterday…
…The Scania unit :open_mouth:
He was quite surprised by the space inside.

That’s my old girl!
(The lorry, not Stacey  )

Muckaway:

You still on the loading shovel Nathan ?
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave, still on the shovel :unamused:
I’m loading the old fashioned way at themoment, the weigher’s packed up and they cant fix it 'til Monday.
…When I’m on holiday.

Sounds as if you have settled into that job now Nathan. They never had weighers years ago,so it tests your judgement more without one.
Cheers Dave.

I’m anything but settled in it, Dave; Thought I wouldn’t miss driving but I got loads more satisfaction out of it than machine driving, can’t say too much though on the subject at present for obvious reasons.
Re the lack of a weigher, now there is some satisfaction in that although our wagons have scales, it’s great when I’ve only a barrowfull or less in the bucket when the drivers stop me. The Cat I drive has a hopeless bucket; Completely square with greedy boards on the top so you can’t see what is going into the bucket, unlike the Liebherr and Volvo. I don’t fill the bucket right up, level load and I know roughly what’s in there.
It gets on my ■■■■ when people come back for 100kgs which a Bob the Builder did yesterday.
