Now we know who the Shovel driver is on this Quarrie Sales site, but who is in the Weighbridge office???Anon 1.

Hopefully someone who can spell QUARRY! :unamused:

Pete.

I go in the weighbridge when the kettle boils
I must confess that I’ve bought bling for the shovel, a Thunderpole Orbiter cb antenna, 6’ magmount, magnetic cb mic clip and a cigarette lighter plug…
…Now need to ask a fitter nicely with a soldering iron if they can fit it on my cb rig.
Will be on Ch 36 for anyone in the area (eventually).

Looks like you are staying on the loading shovel Nathan. Kitting it all out with CB etc.You will need an external speaker as the one on the rig won’t be much use. KTH up this way used to run on Ch 36,don’t know how many of them use a rig these days though.
Cheers Dave.

My CB setup will be a bit Heath Robinson at first; cig socket not great in cab so will have to put a bit of card in alongside plug to hold it. Bloody roof covering is virtually all plastic so I’ll mount the antenna on part of the walkway with coax fed through the window. Not as high as I’dve liked but at least it wont be forgotten and broken off when I have to drive under plant conveyors. Twig’s meant to have a range of 10+ miles, I can’t see that but 2 or 3 miles will be better than most of our tippers.
If having the cb works I’ll see about having it properly fitted but with this setup I could in theory take it with me when driving plant or lorries.

Nobody but the door. Lorry survived and is apparently living in semi retirement as a grain cart near Shipston on Stour.

This digs the gravel at Gill Mill, loading the 2x Bell dumptrucks. Very good condition for an 8 year old machine, despite two breakdowns in a week due to burst oil pipes.

How did the plastic body liners work out?

How did the plastic body liners work out?

They’re good, only fitted to alloy bodies
Artic payloads down about 250kg
4wheelers still get 11t payload.
Foden Alpha gets over 20.5
Volvo FM about 19.8 (pretty good as their chassis are heavy).

So they still fit them as standard on all lorries? What is the wear like on them?

Standard fitting to all lorries was never carried out, just those with alloy bodies. Current policy (except trailers) goes with Charlton Superlite steel bodies and auto-tailgates. Loss in payload apparently offset by reduced maintenance costs.

Stop Press: Young lady Smiths driver caught reading “Fifty Shades of Grey” and when asked for a quote she replied “It’s very descriptive!”

One of the Daf autos loading 4-10mm.

An unusually quiet Saturday for a Bank holiday weekend (normally a few cash collection diy’ers) meant I scrubbed my cab interior. The plug in the cig socket powers my cb.

W.H Wallingtons’ moving Smiths Constructions’ Cat 324D out of Gill Mill.

These FE7 320s haven’t been popular, and with annoying faults, only 2x 6wheelers were bought. Despite the payload plate saying “15200,” they actually can carry nearly 15700.

Yes he is Steve. He had the 59 plate but has now been given the 61 plate auto instead. The 59 is now based at Stratford premix. I don’t the reason why for the swap, only rumours. His son is TNUK member “The Boy”.
