Does anyone actually sleep on the top bunk when away? Or are they just used for storage?
I use mine for the latter, but think it would be far more useful to have some cupboards on the back wall instead.
Sorry for the random post, but just seems to be wasted space to me
ive just started tramping and therefore im still finding out what works for me.
admittidley i have to yet be designated a permanant truck but that should be happening this or next week.
atm im sleeping on the top bunk. i have this idea that its completely wasted space. so far there is ample storage for what i have with me in the lockers. so my plan is to convert the bottom bunk into a settee using a few old cushions i have lying about at home. i plan to bunjee/secure another cushion/foam to the fold flat passenger seat back. that way i have a foot stool. if i find the top bunk in the wagon im gonna be assigned is uncomfortable ill try swapping the mattress over if itll fit.
ill stow the top bunk away when not using it to create the headroom for the “settee”
the passenger seat will be in the upright position while working for neatness. and still be used for cooking ect.
in theory it should maximise the space i have and provide much more comfort than the passenger seat when my shift is over.
all this will be pointless if the wagon im given has no chuffing top bunk
I take my daughter away with me every now and again so need my top bunk, but if I didn’t I would definetly remove the bunk and fit these: benscabinemeubels.nl/en/

I’d love some of those! Shame we can’t make any modifications due to the units being leased!
Used to take my kids with me all the school hols so top bunks were handy, but kids all grown up now. Since then it was handy for storage.
Loved the top bunk on the first 4 series Scanias above the windscreen, really comfortable and wide.
Got a single bunk now in my Actros, miss the facility for chucking stuff on. Toying with the idea of getting one put in.

Wish my gaffer would invest in some nice volvos, instead I’m I’m stuck with a MAN.
Sleep in the top bunk all the time, with Renaults finest Magnum, office spec. you sleep in the top bunk and have a table and chairs down below and in the
summer it’s a little cooler on the top if the hatch is open, weather depending.
I used to sleep on the top bunk of my MP2/3 (crossover) Actros, and that was simply because the bottom bunk mattress was nearly solid, like trying to sleep on stiff cardboard or something, anyway I tried it the first night that I was out in the Actros and after an hour or so of not getting comfortable and not getting to sleep I transferred to the top bunk which was much much better.
I stayed up top for months until one night I was chatting to another of our drivers and he said he slept on the bottom and it was great as it was a comfy soft mattress, I was like wtf are you on about it’s like concrete, to which he replied, “it’s not upside down is it?” To which I responded “of course not you daft bugger!”
Anyway later on I thought I’d just better check and bugger me it was upside down and was indeed a very comfy bed after all
I then promptly moved down stairs (but didn’t ever mention it again to the other driver)
Strange…my Fh only has the one bunk, doesnt look as though it ever had a top one, its 100% factory spec looking…it is Spanish spec so maybe different to a UK spec one??

Fixed that for you lol couldn’t resist so many MAN jokes lol
Top bunk always as it’s wider and more comfortable (Actros MP3), plus when its folded up you can’t store anything on it anyway! I’ve never been able to work out why the standard sleeper cab almost always has two bunks when probably 1% or less are ever double manned.
I fitted one in my F88 back in 1980, only because it was thrown in free with the sun visor. Once in place, I doubt you could actually fit anyone on it unless they were really thin and you slid them in sideways!
Anyway it looked good at the time and was somewhere to store a few bits!
