To grass or not to grass?

To be fair, If the person was a danger to yourself or the general public, I wouldnt hesitate to report them. If when plod turn up, they find nothing wrong, all the guy has lost is 10 - 20 minutes. However if the person has been on the wacky backy, or a booze cruise. Its better to have that person removed from the roads, as it could be you or your family that get wiped out by the ■■■■■■.

I also believe the police are not patrolling enough on the nations roads. I would quite often go months without seeing a single police car on the motorways when i was working in England.

The traffic fines system over here is pretty strict. And the cops are everywhere and arent that easy to spot while driving.
Below is a list of all the fines and amount of points for each offence in the Province of Alberta. a Demerit is equivalent of a penalty point.

Fail to yield to pedestrian in a crosswalk - $575.00 - 4 Demerits
Stop Sign Violation - $287.00 - 3 Demerits
Fail to stop at a red light - $287.00 - 3 Demerits
Fail to obey traffic control device - $172.00 - 3 Demerits
Illegal U-Turn - $115.00 - 2 Demerits
Fail to signal lane change - $115.00 - 2 Demerits
Speeding 15km/h over limit - $89.00 - 2 Demerits
20km/h over limit - $124.00 - 3 Demerits
25km/h over limit - $150.00 - 3 Demerits
30km/h over limit - $177.00 - 4 Demerits
40km/h over limit - $264.00 - 4 Demerits
50km/h over limit - $351.00 - 6 Demerits
Over 50km/h - Mandatory Court Appearance
Careless Driving - $402.00 - 6 Demerits
Race on highway - $402.00 - 6 Demerits
Follow to close - $172.00 - 4 Demerits
Unsafe left turn - $115.00 - 2 Demerits
Fail to back up safely - $115.00 - 2 Demerits
Passing school bus violation - $402.00 - 6 Demerits
Driver/Passenger not wearing seat belt - $115.00
Fail to produce documents - $172.00
Display expired licence plate - $230.00
Vehicle equipment violation - $115.00

I think the police should take a more active role in patrolling the countries roads, and that way they could possibly prevent most of these accidents that happen that block major roadways up for hours on end.

Tell you what, ignore it then when he wipes out a family in a school holiday outing we can all sympathise with the the driver and the family and say “we shouldn’t judge”. Sleep well all you that agree that he should be left well alone to create chaos, and just hope that your family are not travelling along the same stretch of roadas him…

Well given that this thread is now 9 months old it may be a bit late to worry about weather or not he should be reported

jon, how many Demerits can you get before your licence is taken away?

When a total of eight or more but less than 15 points have accumulated, you are mailed a courtesy notice of point standing.

When an accumulation of 15 or more points occurs within a two-year period, your licence is automatically suspended for one month.

When the suspension is the second demerit suspension within one year, your licence is suspended for three months.

When the suspension is the third or more demerit suspension within two years, your licence is suspended for six months. In addition, you may be required to appear before the Alberta Transportation Safety Board.

When a demerit point suspension has been served, the licence is reinstated with seven points. These points remain on your record until a period of two years from the assessed date has passed.

When two years have elapsed from the date of a conviction, the number of points assessed for that conviction are removed from your record. Remember, the date of conviction is the date that you actually pay your fine or are found guilty in absence, not the date that you received the fine.

If an approved defensive driving course has been successfully completed prior to accumulating 15 or more points, a maximum of three demerit points may be removed from a driving record once every two years.
