To grass or not to grass?

I’m a bit hesitant to post this as I already know the answer, but I wanted some other input as I may well of got the wrong end of the stick.

On a couple of occasions now I’ve seen the same rigid driver on a friday afternoon, and been behind him for 10/15 miles on local roads, the way the guy drives is somewhat erratic, speeding up then slowing to 25/30 on 40 roads, his steering is the same, instead of being smooth he 's jerky and overcorrecting going round ‘smooth’ bends, I can now rule out in cab distractions for sure. It’s just not the way a truck driver drives

The first time I saw him I thought he might be a new driver and/or unfamiliar with the roads/truck or had some distraction going on, but I now believe he may have had a leisurely pub lunch.

The problem is the queue of traffic building behind him and me and the frustration that also builds, which has led to a couple of close shaves.
I do believe that if he carries on then, although he may not be the direct cause of an accident, he would be the catalyst for it.

If you consider him to be a danger to other road users then report it.

[zb] like you two make me sick.

i can see your predicament here. its a toughie.
if it helps, if i were behind him, and i thought there was a real risk of him causing an accident, i would call the police.
imagine your horror, if you didnt, and watched him plough, head on into a family, out ih their car.

i was on the road, 1 morning, 3am, a car passed me, (dual carriageway), and the guy just cleared my front bumper, and swerved across me, clipped the grass, and swerved back across, and missed the central barrier by inches. he straightened up for a mile, but then got erratic again, it was that bad, i called the police. the car disapeared, from my vision, 20 minutes later, the police phoned me back, and informed me, the guy hadn’t been drinking, just working too many hours, and was fatigued. apparently, he soon woke up, when the traffic car stopped him.

i did wonder, after, if i’d done the right thing■■?
but at least the police stopping him, woke him up, and he got home in 1 piece, rather than not getting home at all.

Yaaawwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

It seems to be another GRASSING thread…you know what you should do,don’t clog up the forum with another thread about GRASSING!!!

Not your job to police the world is it?

If you start grassing people for doing things like this then why not ring up every time you see someone taking drugs, or drinking alcohol in public, or smoking in a workplace, or breaking a health and safety regulation.

If we all spent our time grassing up every time we saw someone doing wrong, we’d never get any work done at all.

Unless it was directly affecting me then i would leave well alone.

I thought the term ‘Grassing’ was only used within the criminal fraternity  And the term ‘Reporting’ was used by responsible law abiding citizens. Goes to show how moral standards change over the years.

The only person that can make that decision is you. If you feel that strongly then go ahead. Not everyone will appreciate yr thoughts or decision. What ever you decide, it will be the choice that leaves you with a clear conscience.

I’m not going to get into a slagging match, but one question lingers in my mind. Where do you draw the line between grassing and doing the right thing? So this guy might be going along doing his job quite innocently and not realising how his driving might appear.

But on the other hand he cold be under the influence of drink or drugs, he could wipe out a school bus on the next bend? Are you really going to so proud of yr self cos you dint grass him up?

Anyway, one thing remains, some would do well not to judge others so quickly, not everything is always as it seems. Play nicely

Like you say It’s not the 1st time might be worth flashing hime a bit and see what he does
If it aint any better I’d give plod a ring after all if i was coming the other way I’d wanna get home to my kids and not in a wooden box

Cheers Mr Vain for a bit of common sense, I don’t like reporting/grassing anyone and as I don’t know exactly whats going on I’ll leave be for now, I will say that I have once seen him driving in a completely different manner but only for a very short distance.
The other thing is, if he is ■■■■■■■ then given the company he works for, then someone there must’ve surely noticed.

I found myself with a similar dilemma a few years back .We had plant hire company next door who used various different hauliers to move it’s plant.
One low loader driver in particular caught my attention because he would transport machines ie 360 excavators and dozers without strapping or chaining them down,I seen him on the road several times like this.
I didnt want to go as far as phoning the cops so i decided to speak to him ,
turns out he was just a lazy ■■■■■■ who was so full of himself he believed his steady driving and the weight of the machine would prevent it from coming off.
Anyway after we exchanged a few pleasant words i finished by telling him i would report him if i seen him on the road like that again .
It must have got through his thick skull because the several times i seen him after that he had chains on his load.

I was going to add a bit about you own situation BAZ but no need MR VAIN got it spot on.

i’m not a grass or a busy body, but i would be sorely tempted to phone plod. it could be my family he drives over the top of. Then again he could just be a crap driver? or he might be warming his tyres up like F1 drivers… just a thought

i,m sorry but I could not live with myself if I knew the guy was drunk and I did,nt do anything and then something terrible happened,

Personally if I was going to report anyone it would be the other drivers who lack patience and are likely to cause an accident because of it.

Some people simply don’t have the temperament or patience for driving :unamused:
