In a couple of threads recently some mebers have suggested we introduce a membership fee for this site, or have offered donations to assist with the costs of hosting/developing and promoting this site, I have replied in those threads but I also want to start this thread so everyone is clear on where the Management of this site stands on this issue
TruckNet UK exists to support drivers, their families and the industry… we are NOT in the business of making money from drivers… these forums are, and will be as long as I am the manager of them, be free to use.
While the offers of donations from drivers are appreciated, again we will not take your money, you all work hard for the pittance you are paid and have much better things to spend your money on.
good man rikki i would imagine your getting a bit fed up with all the ranting and raving about your decision so come on folks could we now return to normal service
Rikki-UK:

Whilst i totally understand what you are saying Rikki you say as long as you are the manager thats fine for now but you wont be soon unless you can make a living out of it and if after 5 years you cant then i can understand why u need to give it up you have a family to support and you need an income.
I also understand what Robk is saying about the site being Non Profitable as long as someone is able to take over the running of the site and can work on getting sponsorships, advertisers etc etc but DOESNT need to make any money from it that looks like the way we are headed am i right■■?/…
So whos got loads of time on their hands possibly retired and wants to see trucknetuk continue??..
Good luck to yourself Rikki and Lucy whatever you do…
the site is not a non profitable organisation, it was and is a business opportunity.
every week people get free newspapers through their doors, it’s full of adverts by local companies selling their wares or at least advertising what they have for sale, the paper will always be free to you the householder but they don’t print them and deliver them for nothing, they have to pay for the paper/ink/delivery etc. and on top of that they want to see a healthy bank balance at the end of every financial year.
it’s a business and the investors in it want a share of a profit not to have to keep ploughing more money into it every year.
Wheel Nut:
Im not sure why one of trucknets advertisers is having a go at a member who posts a lot of knowledge for free, therby bringing new members to a site he advertises on.
I know what I mean, if no one else agrees
If you are reffering to me then check through Robs postings where he regularly tries to shoot down a popular product, and it’s newer version, Why??
Simply down to Jealousy and the fact he cannot understand business matters
I’m all for criticism where its due, but one things certain, if anyone is going to criticise then they should understand the full facts to enable them to engage brain before opening mouth
According to RobK he is right but 60,000 other drivers are wrong when it comes to the Hour Guard

AT LAST SOMETHING WE AGREE ON
As for Hour guard I know I said I would nt buy another but I do think it is a fantastic piece of kit and since buying one several years ago can now not live without it
I came back from holiday 2 weeks ago and my hour guard mysteriously disappeared i now miss it like it was a memeber of my family , i have had 1 infringement in the last year due to driving hours and that was because i pressed the wrong button on it.
Tramper:
If advertisers cannot be found, the question has to be why?
It’s pretty straight forward really
Low wages, higher interest charges = less spending in ALL areas at present (Hence the reason for the last interest cut)
Less spending = less sales = cut backs in advertising revenues for companies until the slump ends, they wont throw money away trying to attract sales when they know the advertising will be wasted.
I rest my case.
During times of ressesion, and being realistic we are in a ressesion, companies will cut back on advertising, but not stop it. Only the less favorable accounts will suffer as its mainly through advertising that business gets done.
As I said, if advertisers cannot be found, the question has to be why?
My answer is that this site provides little in the way of an atractive proposition, its a great message board, but I have to say that I have only once visited a link to an advertiser, and bought anything (great deal by the way).
If I have only visited one , how many others haven’t even done that?!
Ihave no loyalty to any site inparticular, and would never subcribe, I’d just move on and find another place thats free.
Advertising revenue is the only way to make somthing like this pay for itself, you just got to find the right formula, keep looking guys.
Is there any way of finding out what the actual running costs are of the site just to keep it running?, if noone needed a wage out of it but purely wanted to keep it going would that not be a possibility.
This posting is only because my website has been mentioned, so deserves a reply
I chose to set up truckersworld, and possibly lke Rikki & Lucy often feel like saying “sod it”
But it becomes part of you and it is great when something goes right and you get some thanks for it.
Money is not the biggest problem, possibly to date for me it is £3000 plus and I only go to the odd meetings.
Time is the issue, (Lesley My better half) often nags when I am on here all day answering letters writing letters No holiday for 4 years, etc and I have no family at home grown up and gone away. I am not complaining as I am enjoying it and starting to get somewhere ( that is also due to help from T/N)
The size T/N is then I do not envy Rikki & Lucy especially with a youngster at home, their time must also all be taken up to keep T/N rolling and to the satisfaction of the members. What a brilliant job they do
For them to continue they need the income to allow them more time away from driving to chase up advertisers and sponsors and to keep the sight running smoothly
As I said before it is the Haulage Industry sector that should be offering the support.
Be good to have no slanging match on here as it is an important issue, I think we all want Rikki & Lucy to contiue the good work they are doing, so lets keep it constructive and offer them all our support, just to see the support from members is a big boost to them as very rarely do they get thanked.
From me and Truckersworld Thankyou

The only thing I can add to all this is as follows.
I personally hope that whoever ends up taking over the running of the site does the job in a similar way to which Rikki and Lucy have, which in a nutshell is/was excellent.
TruckNetUK is a model example of free speech and a massive knowledge base for the haulage industry as a whole.
If you don’t know the answer to something - someone on TruckNet will.
I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for this site.
Rikki (aka Bez from the Happy Mondays) and Lucy (aka Tattoo Annie) have taken this as far as they can.
I’m sure they will not hand over the reins to a complete muppet who’ll ruin the site.
Rikki (aka Bez from the Happy Mondays) and Lucy (aka Tattoo Annie) have taken this as far as they can.
As far as we can by ourselves, but with the right skills put in place we can take the website forward, and that is what we are working towards at present
I’m sure they will not hand over the reins to a complete muppet who’ll ruin the site.

Many thanks Barrie for the kind words…
However I MUST take issue with you
Whatever we do , we do not only because we believe in the website, but we also believe that one day it will provide an income for our family…
The ones who deserve the applause are the Moderator /Admin team and the News Team… who do a massive amount for the website, much of it behind the scenes, and they are not working towards any sort of financial gain, unlike me and Lucy…
Your thanks are appreciated… but please direct them towards those who truly deserve them

I will happily stand corrected.
Well done the T/N Team

Exactly Malc. Funny how the site owner’s conveniently avoid the post isn’t it. Also, correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t it state in the site rules that personal attacks are not allowed, and I quote from the site rules post :
LucyR:
Abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing. This is where the whole “Personal Attack” thing stems from. I’m sure we can all think of a thread just recently where this has come into play.
Basically, don’t start on each other! If you disagree, that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and that’s what makes for good debate. But make it personal and it goes. Make it insulting, and it goes. You get the idea.
Phrases such as “In my humble opinion…” (or “IMHO…”); “With all due respect…”; and “The way I look on it…” are fine. (So long as you don’t then put “you are talking out of your backside…” )
Phrases like “I hate all red spotted woodpeckers, they are all [zbs]…”; “You are an utter idiot”; etc.etc.etc. are not.
So why then has the personal attack by Steve been left? One set of rules for one, and another set for everyone else?
Additionally, in the recently removed thread about me in the feedback column, why were numerous personal attacks on me by various members left in the posts unedited or removed altogether ?
