we have subbed for them for 25 yrs and trying to get a rate rise is like trying to get blood from a stone it been abt 7 yrs since we had the last one.mydadwentin last week n they basicly told him to ■■■■ off if he wasnt happy and thatshow they treat you after 25 yrs sevice with iirc only one breakdown on our part that the job never got finished in time .as for there pay i know they messed about and cut the over time rate that works out less than there ordenary pay and have taken various bonuses off them and nobody knows what will happen when ups get there teeth in to it properly …what depot you going for
There’s two answers to this, either you had “one hell of a good rate structure” 7 years ago or-----your a total Mug and what you say sums up,quite plainly, why the industry has gone down the pan over the last number of years !! Cheers Bewick.
bewick we had good regular work out of tnt at one time with good rates yes over the last few years tnt lost the work we were doing for them and put us on what they call end of sort work running to depots with over spill trailers and over the last 3 the rates have been kept down by tossers coming in with scrap not fit to be on the road some drivers look like theyve spent the night playing on the 5th wheel …and that is what they seem to like now as long as the job is getting done for nothing …any extra work or collections we did we stungthem for it then it is light running and alot of the time running to depots to fetch empty trailers sonot burning fuel like its going out of fasion but as of yesterday we no longer pull for them …there is some good lads and subbies on there but different depots seem to pay different

We got on with TNT to do night trunk runs a few years ago and they asked us to quote some jobs (one was running to Kingsbury and another to Ramsbottom I think), I was nearly double what they were willing to pay. I was around the £2.00 per mile and they only wanted to pay £1.10, needless to say we never did any work for them.
I worked for them 12 years ago as a subbie and to be truthful the money was good then, you were lucky to get with them, fast payers too, I still have a few buddies on for them and I do hear that the rates are crap, it seems that the current management are setting the rates in future and if you don’t want that rate we will find someone who does. TNT would rather pay for 100 taxi’s to carry the goods than pay you an extra £20 on the job - it’s the principle of the thing. Every manager within TNT carry their own personal little knife to hack into the back of anyone in their way, it always pi**ed them off when I could go above them to the top.
Good luck with your assessment.

I worked for them for the best part of 10 years but that was 24 years ago, it was a dam good firm to work for then & judging by the drivers still there today it can’t be bad now. I will say if you haven’t had a rate rise for over 7 years you must have been on some dam good rates 7 years ago.

Anyone know what the money and T&C’s are? Got an interview on Thursday! Any info most welcome!
They were very good when I was a trunk driver for them & a lot of the people I knew then are still there today. If they have been taken over by UPS I’d want to know how secure your local depot is because I can’t see all depots staying open for both firms. Perhaps you could let us know how the interview goes then we’ll all know the crack there.

Apart from bank holidays, they seem to miss that week and then catch up the week after, I think they have always used the pay quick ruse to get people to work for lower rates.

Yep Bermuda park.Right inbetween TNT Kingsbury and TNT Atherstone hubs
They bought Lynx purely for their UK network. Once they got what they needed from the takeover, Lynx was done away with. I think the reason for buying TNT is pretty much the same but for the European and Far East side of their business. TNT will no doubt disappear in the same way Lynx did eventually.
Different department I am afraid . I work out of Northampton on the European line haul side …
Is Steve Bown still there Jim or has he moved again, I heard he was at Wellingborough and then at N’ton, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has gone by now though?
Ups is gone from Nuneaton. It went to Birch Coppice. Hermes are in the old Lynx place. Not sure if there is a UPS office still. The other old Lynx place is a Renault workshop.

Yeah but with Birch Coppice and Atherstone plus Nuneaton there is a lot of conflict depot’s there in a small area.
Time will tell though, it’s not expected to complete until the Autumn.
