Tipping at Aldi and Lidl

I have read that VOSA/DVSA have said that it would be reasonable to record break when you have backed onto a bay and have to sit in a waiting room and then when you return to the vehicle record some other work to cover the short period of working time walking to handing in paper work collecting paper work when done, as we all know its self tip at aldi/lidl all the time whilst out of the vehicle you may not be working the whole time so could you leave it on break and then record the actual working time you did and not the overall time you was out of the vehicle, can’t see waiting for a pump truck and waiting for some one to check the load whilst you are stood around doing nothing in goods in could really be classed as other work.

I think you would be hard pressed to say you have done anything other than Other Work whilst on a bay at Aldi/Lidl.

Standing around waiting for a pallet truck isn’t a break. :unamused:

If you can’t dispose of your time freely then it’s other work.

Given the time you have to wait at said places, I don’t think you’ll be hard pushed to get your break in.

I suppose if you had to sit around for a while for your paperwork, you could tip then return to your cab & put it on break.

Can’t help but get a bit frustrated at how guys seem always to be looking for any opportunity to nick a dodgy ‘break’, bit of a sad indictment of the job.

You are confusing break and rest. Break is a break from driving and other work, hence can be took on a site where you aren’t allowed to leave the premises. A daily or weekly rest is where the driver is free to do as he or she pleases

It’s not sad if you are salaried like me, and want to get home. The less hours you are at work in the day, the more your equivalent hourly rate. :unamused:

So you would think its reasonable to leave it on other work for an hour, even though you may only actually do 15-20 minutes.

But as we know most salaried jobs are not that good and yer bosses slave

Not sure what other lidl places are like, but VOSA like to come into Livingston on a regular basis to check tachos for things like this. The only time I’d have my tacho on break is sitting in the cab waiting for the pager to go off. Everything else in there is most probably classed as other work.

Combine that with not having a limiter and more than one tacho card and your hourly rate must rocket!

Agreed, waiting for the pager is a break as is waiting for the paperwork. It usually comes to around 8 hours of waiting all in at Livingston so it’s worth it. I just leave it on other work as soon as I get on a bay.

A.

I keep the wolves from the door Brother

At Aldi driver can press break or POA at tipping time. And do this reason Aldi drivers can t work long hours and get good money, because without POA we can work just 48 hours in last 17/26 week. Most Aldi drivers get good pay per hours but no so good monthly wages.

At bathgate aldi, vosa are in at tipping times checking this regularly, don’t risk it.
