as title say’s really just want to know what sort of money you can earn
is it hourly pay? is it day rate? or paid by load if so roughly how much? i’ve spoke to a few lads but they aint really gave anything away
just trying to find out as possably a future job
All of the above…
Some firms pay hourly rate on its own
some pay hourly but with a percentage of vehicles earnings
some pay by the day
some pay by the day with a bonus
etc etc etc…
There are an infinate amount of ways that firms pay…
Best way is to ask when youre at the interview that way youll get the truth not a drivers theory.
I’m lucky in that our firm pays by the hour only and doesnt really bother if you havent got a full load on.
Be careful of rates above the £9 p/h mark as these will be flatout Hell driver outfits. Working for ODs and subbies is harder, whereas if the company have their own quarries it tends to be less stressful as the firm make money on product and haulage. Some may pay a load bonus although I’ve heard the number that do are getting less as it’s legality is a grey area. If it’s a muckshifting outfit, check their wagons have on-board weighers or you may find yourself donating to VOSA…
We do mostly grain and feed to and from farms and mills.
If its farm work be prepared to drive down lanes and tracks that most normal motorists wouldnt take a land rover down, get some good boots or wellies youll need them,
and remember…NEVER refuse a brew and Never throw anything for the dog, also dont pat the dog it’ll be the first show of affection its had all year and will try to mount your leg

a couple of ton over they said nothing and i was off like a shot.it was a long time ago and the scales was a balance beam idea
and you never saw anything like a didgical read out and the ministry men wasent so invasive as these vosa men. BUT what a sucker

The shovel driver would probably be able to load a hundred loads to within about 250kg if he was any good
and to ask about tipper driving is like asking how long is a piece of string.
There’s Rigids or artics
Muck shifting
Quarry work
Tar
Waste
Hi Bulk Paper shavings etc
Normal bulk coal etc
Agricultural. Grain, animal feed fert.
It can be tipped, walking floor or blown.
I’m sure there’s more and it’s all ‘tippers’

I’ve noticed they have a lot of new MAN’s.
I"m like Toowise i spend my time between farms and factories
I"m paid by the hour you get your jobs the night before there is no reason to break the law on weights or hours. For example i ran out of time 20mins from the yard and was told to park up and have a night out
If your doing mills or docks etc have a good book to hand you could be half an hour or half a day
On farms again Toowise hit the nail on the head i have a Daf 105XF the mirrors certainley show the marks from lanes as do the steps
The dogs will eat you or hump you and most of them stink lol
Dont be shy with a broom
I do earn over £10p/h but i dont have to drive like a hell driver (only by choice
)
Oh one last thing be prepared to thought of as the scum of the driving world everyone hates a tipper driver lol
