Time to move on.

I’ve been working for 1 of the big logistics firms for the last 3 & a half years, tramping Mon-Fri, got a Merc Megaspace, so a decent bit of kit to be tramping in. For the last 6 months we’ve been told we’re gonna be getting the new MP4 Merc Megaspace cabs to replace the Mega’s we’ve got now.

All well & good so far, until a couple of weeks ago when the ‘new’ units turned out to be old shape Actros midi’s (apparently they got a good deal on them  ), you know the 1’s, 1 small bunk, piddly little lockers, & no space to swing a rat (no, that’s not a spelling mistake). Over the past couple of weeks the regular drivers have been moved onto the new units, cue much moaning & questioning of our TM, as to his competence & his parentage amongst other things. Our old Actros’s, which most of us have had since day 1, & have been kept clean & tidy, have now been handed over to our agency staff.

Also, we employed drivers are salaried for 48 hours, we’re regularly pushed past that & it’s a constant battle with our planner, especially on a Friday, to keep us at 48 hours per week. We’re on a laden mileage bonus scheme aswell, for every km we’re laden, we get anything from 4-10p per km, so, a good week with a few reloads thrown in & it’s possible to earn £160 bonus. A tidy sum that tops up our average weekly wage.

Just lately I’ve noticed I’m not getting much in the way of bonus, especially since our new planner took over about a year ago. So, last week when I bumped into 1 our our regular agency lads, a really nice bloke I’ve had many a chat with over the last 6 months, I asked him how many back loads he’d had the previous week, 5 was his answer. I’ve not had 5 in a week since I’ve been there  .

So, now I’m working for a company that seems to treat its agency drivers better than its own regular staff. Because agency drivers are hourly paid, I find myself in the ludicrous situation where, not only are our agency drivers paid more than us regulars, they’re also given the best kit to do the job aswell.

So, apologies for the long diatribe, enough is enough & I think I’m going to be seeking new employment in the new year.

You’re not going to like this reply…BUT dry your ■■■■■■■ eyes. You’ve probably a second career driver who’s had it too good for too long, over paid and under worked thick as ■■■■ with good T&C. A waste of ■■■■■■■ space. No doubt one of the moaner’s who won’t do a second more without a fuss.
Simple… if you don’t like your new ■■■■■■■ lorry then ■■■■ off somewhere else. Just get on with YOUR job and never mind what the agency driver is doing.
Could never understand why big logistic’s companies employ the driver’s they do.

A naive view.

This chap has been a loyal worker and is being shafted by the company he’s working for. Yes, he may have had an easy deal, but that doesn’t excuse the firm treating non permanent staff better than permanent. They should be treated the same really…yes, i know it’s not an ideal world!

Remember that it isn’t the coolest drivers that work for ■■■■ wages and put long hours in. It’s the ones too stupid to see they’re being shafted that let companies take the ■■■■ out of them that do…

If I were the OP, I’d be heading out of there too… :sunglasses:

.

As far as I know it’s a regular thing for agency drivers to get higher pay than regular drivers, I know it’s happened to me on many occasions when on agency work.

To quote your quote ‘good T&C’s’…

Think you sort of shot your bolt?

Employed drivers dont ever see the big picture where agency drivers are concerned!
And i doubt the agency are getting the reload bonus either!.
As for only being paid for 48hrs, just work 48hrs, and if your getting shafted on a friday, do less mon-thursday.

He won’t go any ■■■■■■■ where. He’ll just stay where he is and ■■■■■■■ moan like all the rest of the ■■■■■■■ second career drivers. OR he could leave. BUT he won’t. He wouldn’t last in the real world

No I didn’t…he’s got a good job, and a NEW ■■■■■■■ LORRY, bonus’s the whole nine yards and he’s not happy ffs :astonished:

good luck with finding a new job but dont be surprised if you end up an agency driver like most of us,driver shortage is a myth

I can see this guys point of view, basically he is saying that he is not being rewarded for his loyalty - which is true. I would be hacked off too if I was in his position.
The fact is that there is no longer any loyalty, you are just a number and the company are getting a better deal with the agency lads in that they just pay one rate and no bonus, if your not happy then look for something else, good luck in finding a good place to work for these days though.

No stress here mickyblue but I might need a bigger tin hat.

Iv just left a firm that’s growing at an absolute ridiculous pace, pay not gone up in 4 years.
Take on any idiot and I just couldn’t work there anymore with certain people the job was affecting my health.
I got an opportunity to leave and took it now work for a small family firm with no BS no grassing on others no telematics and politics just drive my wagon.
Iv always said life’s too short to hate going to work sure you get bad days but when most days are bad things need to change…

Why wud they not give the agency driver the reloads I’d lay money they get no bonus for doing them it prob balances out the extra money they have to pay them
