I just like talking to camera that’s all, it’s nothing special.
True.
You dont need ‘50k’ likes to know how youtube works.
Except it seems you don’t

I think I know the issue now.
If you want to ask random people for money online fine. I disagree with it but you have every right to do so. It was just the way I was brought up you dont ask for hand outs. Not least because you dont know if the person giving the money can afford to do so.
.
- They aren’t ‘random people’, they are people who have a relationship with me going back years in most cases. Some of these people I talk to most days via social media, some I consider friends that I’ve never met in person. Sounds weird to some but this is how world is moving forward
- Handouts…I write for Truck & Driver too, is that a hand out? People are getting something in return in both events.
- The other option was to monetise everything, put videos behind a paywall but I didn’t as that would mean many who can’t afford it will be cut off, so it’s donations. And I have said very clearly over and over and over and over again to only donate if you can afford it. Take it from someone who’s known poverty- people really struggling with no money don’t waste it this way. Let alone parents. I’ll go so far as to say NO skint parent would give me a fiver over spending on their children and obviously I’d never want them to. You have to accept adults can make their own decisions and not patronise them.

Btw it is not just kids. Many adults are giving way too much money away just for some recognition of being acknowledged by their fav youtuber or twitch stream. There are so many examples the list is countless. This just one. Found many begging streamers for their money back etc.
Yup, already covered that
Ok, firstly, your comparing yourself to the examples I give.
I dont think your doing any harm or causing people to be skint. There are less scrupulous youtubers and twitch streams that are though.
For point 1: That’s fine, you do you.
For point 2: I dont know how that works. It’s a magazine right? It’s slightly different.
For point 3: Again, your comparing yourself to extreme examples. I dont think you are a bad person. Actually in terms of people who deserve donations your well above the likes of most. My issue is with the ones who play video games targetting kids for donations mainly. Because as you said. At the end of the day An adult can do what he wants with his own money.
I wont link bomb the thread with anymore examples but there are people earning tens of thousands a week complaining that they are not getting enough donations. Or having donation goals to play another game. Other youtubers/twitch streamers shaming viewers for not donating more.
Although this does not not apply to you at all. There is a weird power dynamic at play. With some of this donation giving. It’s weird to explain but donations give a sense of feeling recognised and liked and many people get addicted to it. Especially when your favourite youtuber reads your name out.
I’ve literally have examples of people saying they can only afford to ‘donate’ $10 because they are struggling to pay my rent.
Also who donates money to someone who is probably worth millions?
It just seems odd to me. Once they reach that point surely ad revenue and sponsorships should take over. It seems mad as hell that the top tier list of youtubers who are millionaires are accepting donations from people who may not have $100 to their name.
Fair enough and good points. Maybe I took it a bit personally.
I just think it was ever thus, as I said previously for as long as there’s been money there’s been people trying to get it from others. With social media yes you’re right there is a lot of what is effectively fraud going on, even if legal, but that’s mostly because we’re are just in a funny in between time between its arrival - becoming popular - the law finally catching up. You’re right I suppose it can be a bit of a free for all in some ways right now, it’s a bit of a no man’s land, but legislation will finally catch up. Part of the problem right now it’s not in any way confined to countries and is very global.
I think the most worrying part is the finanical advice from people with a large platform.

There are many influencers right now telling their followers to invest in certain very volatile cryptocurrency without even having declare any stakes or any vested interests. Which I’m pretty sure is illegal. So they go about it in very dodgy ways.
There is a lot of artifical stock manipulation going on with influencers and it is pretty illegal. It’s often referred to as pump & dump. You get a large amount of people to buy stock/bitcoin which causes the price to rise and then you cash out before everyone else does.
But they just get away with it. But when someone with say 15m followers happens to say he is ‘going all in on dodgecoin’ He may not be telling his followers to buy dodgecoin but it is so obvious what he is doing.
Zero regulation at all. I wonder how many got screwed over /will get screwed over when the gamestop ride ends.
See also Nigel Farage trying to get his ever-dwindling band of followers to ‘invest’ their ever-dwindling savings in his latest get-rich-quick scheme on YouTube.
I hear the out-of-work fishermen are falling over themselves to get in on it.
What could possibly go wrong■■?

Ok well you clearly aren’t Carryfast. We had a sensible discussion and saw each other’s points like grown ups
I don’t have anything to comment about stock trading as it’s an area I know next to nothing about. Does sounds concerning tho
