Tiktockers celebrating the mundane

adam277:
I could go done the rabbit hole with you on this.
But a lot of people do very little ‘work’ to be honest.

There are people making money just posting videos of themselves eating. And Or people posting videos of themselves reacting and charging people so their ‘comments’ can be read.

You seem to just lazily assume that everyone is making millions. They aren’t. It’s actually quite hard to make a lot of money. But even if they were, why would it bother you? If you think it’s so easy why don’t you have a go when there’s millions to be made. Why do you even think about them? You seem to be taking tips from a certain someone, worrying about stuff that doesn’t really concern you.

adam277:

Mimicking real life quite well then, it would seem!

Good luck to anyone that can make as much as possible doing as little as possible and staying happy and satisfied, i wish i could! I followed a few of the lorrying TikTokers when i was on there, in fact a few of my ‘mundane’ clips went on to do quite well for little ol’ me, but like anything else, there are some proper dicks on there. It’s just scrolling past those to the ones you find informative and entertaining, or if you don’t like the format at all, don’t bother with it shrugs

Yep.
“500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute worldwide (Tubefilter, 2019). That’s 30,000 hours of video uploaded every hour. And 720,000 hours of video uploaded every day to YouTube. Wow. To put this into perspective, it would take you close to 82 years to watch the amount of videos uploaded to YouTube in only an hour. That’s a lifetime of watching YouTube videos.” OBERLO.

There are more than 50 million content providers.
The YouTube millionaires are there of course, but are a tiny fraction of the total number.

My channel is monetised, it’s at the lower end in the popularity stakes, more popular than most but nowhere near the big leagues. Decent for an idiot trucker though nowhere near the most popular of them even. And I make effectively smell change out of it directly. And that’s for well over 100 videos. Yesterday alone I spent 6 hours tidying it up, altering titles and sorting playlists.

In case anyone is interested

Doubtful that they are mate. What people are interested in is the truth, not attention seeking fools.

The dumbing down of sheeple is in full flight, not sure what the endgame with social media will be, but whilst folks craniums are reduced to that of a sparrow, real progress in this country will be miniscule (like most truck driver wages).

Interesting. I knew 99% of so called youtubers make a pittance out of it but I didn’t expect it to be THAT bad :unamused: I have an acquaintance who has a channel with just over 1000 subscribers and is about to get enrolled into the youtube “partnership” scheme; he claims he’ll be getting USD 480 per month with just that. I keep telling him that’s not how it works but he won’t listen  He was even considering leaving his job (not a driver) to become a full time tuber. WIth 1000 subscibers and a few thousand views per month. It’s like back in da day when people in the USA (mostly women) quit school/jobs and left in droves for Hollywood because they were sold the idea that anyone could become famous. Well at least we got lots of quality adult movies out of that :grimacing:

You might want to change your channel photo though  Unless you’ve had it for decades

I dont assume that everyone is making millions. Neither did I say that.
As for why should it bother me. It doesnt. I give it very little thought.

Your main argument is that it is not my problem so I shouldnt think about it. I contributed to a thread and gave my view of it. That’s pretty much it.
I’ve also given my view of the BLM protests, Electric cars, NHS Pay, Bitcoin, Films and Books.

You seem quite defensive about this topic.

But I stand behind everything I said. I guess it doesnt matter much anyway. A fool and his money will always be parted. If people want to throw their money at people on social media that is down to them.

Defensive? No, just countering nonsense. Like Carryfast you appear to give way too much weight to what opinions of anonymous Trucknetters mean in the grand scheme of things.

Do I need to stop taking you literally then?

Yup, he’s not going to be retiring just yet.

What’s wrong with my profile image?!

For clarity it bothers me to the extent when I am asked my view of it I will say I dislike modern social media trends. I dont particularly think or care about it. I dont hold strong views of it because it is not something I deal with.

On the being bothered scale it ranks about a 1.5 out of 10.

I am quite aware that my opinion means little. I am self aware enough to know that what ever I type here is not going to change anything. You also haven’t countered anything. Only berate my view and dismiss me for having an opinion.

I guess your annoyed because your a YouTuber as well. Ah well. It wasnt barbed at you.

I guess like Carryfast you are also blind to when people state facts? Berate your view? Disagree you mean.

Annoyed? AGAIN, like Carryfast you really do put way too much emphasis on how you think people feel…but unlike Carryfast I barely know you are so if Carryfast only slightly annoys me (for the possible influence he has on new drivers) someone spouting uninformed nonsense about a subject they know nothing about? Yeah chap, don’t really care, it’s not remotely that important and when I’m working again you’ll witness my post rate go down to a handful a week. You call me annoyed seemingly to cover up your irritation about me calling you and catching you out.

The dramatic about turn you can do within the same thread is hilarious. You don’t know your arse from your elbow

You’re like those people who answer Amazon questions about a product with ‘Don’t know, I have not used it yet’   You aren’t legally required to reply to every topic believe it or not.

adam277:
It does annoy me how monetised everything has become.
Every youtuber is basically asking for donations or to buy their crappy t-shirts now.

Cant deny it is an effective way of making money though.

I think the days of forums are dying. People prefer the short format of tiktok and twitter anyway.

best not tell trucknet the days of the forum are dying

It’s also comical him pointing it out on a website monitised to the hilt! Five adverts I can see writing this…Just to point out the the hard of thinking coming from me this isn’t a criticism

I am uninformed on the subject. Probably to the same extent you are. I never denied that.
You haven’t got me out on anything. You can be ‘bothered’ about famine in Africa while at the same time clearly not being bothered about it at all because you do nothing about it.
But be all means actually dissect what I said.

Firstly, YouTubers promoting gambling and buying products too kids.

The amount of money children spend on games varies. In some cases, the amount of money children report spending on games has increased annually, with some spending over £300 in one year. Peer pressure from friends and online strangers, as well as influence from famous gaming YouTubers, are all factors that children say lead to them feeling pressured to spend money on in-game purchases.

Son gave his parents entire life savings in donations to his favourite twitch channel. (Similar to youTuber).

What is your view of this?
I also have no issue with advertisments. If people want to put adverts on a forum or in their videos that is fine by me.
My main gripe is YouTubers or other such people solicting viewers for money directly or indirectly. Also how they can influence people negatively.

Other issues include youtubers giving out finanical advice without any background checks. Quite common right now. All in the name of making money.
There are plenty of other issues as well but as you will probably dismiss this all I’ll stop here.

I didnt mean to guess how you felt either, It was a poor choice of words.

Oh ■■■■, you got me there*. You’re so good at these forum debates.

(*Because someone who claims to not be bothered by, never think about and not have any interest in social media being monetised OF COURSE knows as much as someone with over a decade of being a YouTuber, 13 years on twitter, ten with a Facebook page and 7 on Instagram (I was late to that one) with tens of thousands of likes and follows between them and 50k YouTube views a month who’s recently been overwhelmed by people’s generosity in helping me financially during a tough time. Silly me)

You’ve become as comical as Carryfast for spouting s**t about things you know nothing about. Has actually crossed my mind that you could be him since his main account has been premodded it would be totally understandable if he started another. Geoffrey- is that you my love?   )

And just to note again for the hard of thinking none of that is me boasting, just facts. I just like talking to camera that’s all, it’s nothing special. Would have been much better if I’d been useful at something worthwhile, like driving

Nothing new. For as long as there’s been money there’s been people trying, legally or illegally, to get it from you. When I was a kid in the eighties it was premium rate phone lines where kids would often rack up bills just as big. It’s often a failure of parenting, that’s all, well with kids. For adults it’s a failure of common sense, which ultimately comes down to a failure of parenting too

Edit- to add for clarity I mean people giving unaffordable amounts, not any money

switchlogic:

True.
You dont need ‘50k’ likes to know how youtube works.

I think I know the issue now.
If you want to ask random people for money online fine. I disagree with it but you have every right to do so. It was just the way I was brought up you dont ask for hand outs. Not least because you dont know if the person giving the money can afford to do so.

Btw it is not just kids. Many adults are giving way too much money away just for some recognition of being acknowledged by their fav youtuber or twitch stream. There are so many examples the list is countless. This just one. Found many begging streamers for their money back etc.
