just had some office bod refuse to sign my agency time sheet for a 2345 finish at 2339…absolutely unbelievable
Too right nor would I as that equates to about 75p top line
Next time he needs a driver tell him to make love elsewhere.
DON’T WORK FOR AGENCIES … they are just scam artists.
Im on UPS-Olympia contract.
Went Yesterday to Olympic Park and Army has replaced the Security at Entry-Check Point.
They didn’t check much on the Lorry or seal, but put me and my Bag in security Scanner and removed all Food and Drinks from Cab.

And over to immigrant to hijack the thread
To the op, that is tight. I would’ve said it takes 5 mins to get back to my car, so that’s your time
Managers discretion usually when it comes to things like that, but some companies do have strict guidelines. When I was on Exel, if you clocked out at 16:59 you were only paid till 16:45. Likewise if you clocked in at 06:01 you were not paid until 06:15. It certainly made you get in on time, however when you went to clock out at 16:55, you thought (NB) that and went for a piddle, washed your hands, went back and hey presto 17:00.

An experienced driver would “find something to do” and show up at the desk at 23:44 ready to go.
We call it a stroke from the saying “stroke of genius” any driver worth his or her salt after a period of time has “more strokes than the boat race”
Some 'em are just plain mean.
at the end of your shift you can go take a pee, wash your hands, comb your hair if you have any, and just about fill in an extra 15 minutes, never mind 6…
play them at their own game… you win , they lose.
Ive worked for the same agency for 10 yrs now and have never had this problem… its sometimes the companies we work for that are the problem…
Most of them take 45 off us for breaks so i make sure i take my break in my time, not while i’m on a bay or doing any other work…
and another thought for those type of tight gits, if they want to save money, help them by setting your cruise control at 50 instead of 56, tell them you’re saving them money by getting more mpg out of their vehicle… shame it takes an extra hour to do your shift… WIN, WIN.

Not Langdons by any chance?
Pop digicard out of vehicle at 23:54, chuck keys in at 23:58, then docket only gets signed upto 23:45…
I once popped the question about “If I break my leg now on the way out of the door, who pays?” and “If I hit the gatepost whilst pulling into the yard, who pays?”
Since they’ve signed me off 10 minutes before I’ve removed my tacho - just to save 15 minutes pay, AND by some office clerk - not even the boss!
This has nothing to do with the agency - it’s the client that giveth, and the client that taketh away - or at least clerks acting above their station do!
I call this process “Clipping” by the way.
You can potentially lose around £50 a week if you get clipped at both ends every night,!

I concur. It took me a while to learn the ropes that you’ve described above when I first started in agency.
There are some transport offices nonetheless who’ll have different hatches in different rooms for collecting/dropping off your vehicle keys.
Guess what? The “Outbound” (start of shift) window room has a clock that’s 7 minutes fast (so you turn up 5 minutes early, get booked on 15 minutes after your start!) and the “inbound” window that has a clock running 6 minutes slow, so when you try and hang it out in the bogs for the last 4 minutes, chuck your keys in 5 mins after the hour, and you STILL find yourself getting booked off at 23:59 rounded back to 23:45!
The worst attempted clip of all was in the mid 90’s when I turned up 5 mins early, was told to “take a seat whilst we sort a run out for you” and then over 2 hours later, they chuck some keys at me, and pass me a clocking in card.
I asked the obvious “awkward question” of “How do you turn back the clock here so I can book on when I turned up, rather than ‘as of now’ which is your obvious intent to defraud me here?”
Got shown the door…
At least the firm no longer exists, so I had the last laugh I guess. Red livery, a fast bird once having a depot in Aylesford.
If you caught someone helping themselves to a £20 note out of your pocket, you’d give them a knuckle sandwich? - Or ■■■■■■ it back and walk away? - Or let them have it because they’re superior to you in some way?
(1) lands you in jail, (3) loses you £20, so maybe the walkaway option isn’t quite so embarrassing when put into perspective eh?
If this ever happens to me (and to be fair it never has) I’d just take a higher road and tell them that I’m not really bothered about a sultry £3.50 in the overall scheme of the day (overtime rate for 15mins), it’d just knock the jumped up ‘clerk’ down a peg a 2. I have signed myself 4 or 5 mins short a few times if I know theres an idiot that I know could be funny with a driver on the desk, I do make a point of telling them that I’m signing out earlier though just to get the ‘heads up’ without getting into a discussion. It works every time !
This post made me smile and angry at the same time. Why? Because pre-1979 there was in England…probably the rest of the UK too…a government department commonly known as the “Wages Board”. It existed in part to ensure that employers couldn’t do what has happened to the OP…and many other things too.
You see when this sort of thing happened…ie the employer rounded down wages to their benefit…which they often tried to do …all you had to do was go down and complain to the “Wages Board”…give them your employers name and address and all relevant info and the “Board” got it sorted and the employer was slapped on the wrist so to speak…thus saving you all the embarrassment of making yourself out to be a ■■■ or troublemaker.
Sadly this type of assistance is no longer available to the worker. Ah the good old days.
If you all joined the RTA (road transport association) and got there rule book you would be able to stand up for yourself. You are entitled to an hour pay every time the company you work for phones you when you are off duty and there are many other rules to throw at the thieving agency you work for.
Just take 15 minutes longer to do the days work next time. Rip agencies off the same way they rip you off. Go down the A50 to south Wales and book the bridge a few times and stuff them.
If every driver got together in England and stopped working for these scabby places they would go out of buisiness and you would all have proper secure employment with proper companies, either that or get together and offer yourselves to the companies your agency sends you to for a lower rate than that agency charges, put the rubbish thieves out of the market.
Agency owners live a damm good lifestyle on your backand do nothing for it except exploit you.

To the Op,
I think the firm your doing work for just wants to save a few quid. I don’t think the agency has anything to do with it

Do you remember ‘Busby’, Shuttlespanker??
Don’t really mean to go off subject but the ‘find something to do’ phrase really made me smile. Many years ago a mechanic who used to work with my husband and Shuttlespanker ‘found something to do’ : if he got back to the yard at say 5.47 pm, he phoned ■■■ chat lines - on the company phones (which were always left in the vans) - until he was ready to clock off at 6 or the next full quarter of an hour after he returned to the yard if he got back later. This went on for many months. When the boss found out he was all set to sack him, but was persuaded by the garage foreman to keep him on - so that they could take the micky out of him. He was always known as ‘Busby’ after that.

I second this,
Was REFUSED pay one day on the agency as the vehicle I was in broke down and I sat in a garage all day, was told the client wont pay us because you haven’t done anything!!!
i know it comes across as tight ect, however after working behind the desk once, i allowed a driver to do a similar thing, next thing i knew nearly every driver was trying it and when refused I was accused of all sorts… 6 mins is,nt alot but x that by 25 drivers a day, week ect, and then the hassle of explaining to your own drivers why you have let an agency guy go early and not them… as an ex office bod its just not worth the hassle…
To be fair…it was just a case of officialdom by an over zealous office pleb.
She shouted over her shift manager who laughed and then signed me out.i would have given her some grief, but this particular company is my favourite firm to work for…
Drivers have to round up not down, it disgusts me how they push and push but dock as much as possible.
