Threatened by a work colleague

Juddian:
Report the incident, you have witnesses to this initial threat, if you say nothing now and the pillock lumps you at some later date some companies have a policy of sacking both parties whatever, so do what you need to do to protect your job, he has nothing to lose so you don’t want to get the push through an unemployable brain donor.

The options are not confined to the management, though they are the obvious choice, you could also seek the help of the site union rep if your a member or the staff association rep if there is one. In any case I would definitely do it as a group, safety in number and all that, even if you have to make statements separately. If you do have to make a formal statement make sure that you have someone with you who is not a material witness.

decided to act! :astonished: i’m not weak or weedy, but probably far too quiet.we have no Union or driver’s rep’.,but have just left a message on one of the office/assessor’s blokes mobile asking him to contact me.feel i need to get my side of the story in asap.

+1 Nip it in the bud!!!

Best course of action IMO. Workplaces are different to what they were twenty or even ten years ago. Sorting this out yourself would probably not end well for you. Follow company procedures and cover yourself. Good luck.

Pull him Outside company premises,

A: ask him if he has a problem with you

B: if yes ask him to sort it the not slap him instead of ■■■■■■■■ to eveyone else

C: sorted

Double check your pin is what I’d be doing in case he gets any bright ideas of his own!

alamcculloch:
Foxtrot Oscar with that ,You have rights as well, let your firm and his agency know about his behaviour.Things will just get worse ifyo dont nip this in the bud.

I bet you stand on bridges taking down the company and numberplates of any driver who makes an error don’t you?

Talk to him face to face first, if that doesn’t work ramp it up. Nothing worse than somebody going behind your back and landing you in deep ■■■■ when they could’ve said “Look mate…”

Nobody should have to put up with bullying, aggression, or intimidation in the workplace. Sorry but that idiot crossed well over the line when he started talking about turning the matter physical. Do that in a pub and you’d be ejected, do it in the street and you’d be arrested, so not quite sure why people think it is at all acceptable to behave like that in a workplace? :open_mouth:

Most people go to work for money, do what it is they have to do, then go home. The o/p is doing exactly the right thing reporting that guy. There are lots of decent drivers out there that know how to behave themselves on other peoples premises.

Sounds like you’re doing the right thing. Juddian is right get it sorted through the proper channels, hopefully he won’t last long and certainly wouldn’t be at the agency I work for for long either. Management might want the written complaint stating time, date, &etc.,…so do it, otherwise they can’t act.

Wait while he,s down between two trailers and bang the ■■■■ people like act the hard man in front of others with this "see you outside " ■■■■■■■■ are usually soft as ■■■■■■ hardcases usually hit first and ask later no matter were they are.

Man up sounds about right, are you a ■■■■■■■ school leaver or something? You need to stick up for yourself, you Jessie. plenty jobs out there, bite his nose off if it comes to it

Only had one work place brawl ever, usual thing early morning security guard givin it the bigun, tells him to bollox , followed by a bit of a push and shove till punches are thrown left right and centre. We made a right mess of the office. Great fun till 2 others broke it up.
Both of us kept quiet about it though and made sure the office was tidy afterwards.

Cant do that now though to many drama queens and red tape / political correctness. Makes me miss the days of being a football hooligan but always up for some afters if available…

That said think your doing right thing going through the proper channels, sometimes nipping these things in the bud and covering ones arse is what the game of life is all about these days.

Correct Dip my thoughts exactly don’t make yourself easy target 9/10 those sort are trying to look hard because there not I know some proper handy lads and if they had a problem it wouldn’t be "OUTSIDE IN 5 MINS " it would be BANG

I have a few mates who dont look the part but are an absolute nightmare whether drunk or sober. One of my mates is 6 and half foot tall and soft as a kitten but his smaller mate will kick off at the drop of a ■■■■.

Golden rule in the old days was to keep workplace scuffles away from management which worked fine, but now there will always be one who squeals.

The workplace environment allows many to get away with more than they should and even progressive wimping down of work colleagues makes me cringe at times, we all have our limits though. Me im a right ■■■■■ but have an air of unpredictability that just keeps me away from bullying (well apart from women who dominate me quite a lot) always has done.

Doing the right thing, let the Management deal with it.
Let them sort it, you don’t want to loose your job, because somebody wants to be the hard man.

It’s one of the most difficult things on your CV to be sacked for that kind of behaviour, and most companies have the policy to sack both parties, to avoid a lot of hassle.
And even if you where not a fault, your next employer wants to know why you are sacked from your previous job, and will hesitate to employ you, as without knowing the correct information, they will automatically assume that you are kind of a trouble maker.

Yes the times are gone, that the Boss would take his hat of and a few fisticuffs where thrown in a quiet corner of the warehouse, and any case was closed after that.
Duty of care for employers now requires that they supply a safe working environment for every employee and bullying, or harassment (whatever kind) are a no go and can land your employer in deep murky water.

Report it, make sure there is a statement made, including copies of witness statements, and keep yourself a copy of the facts, it can help you in the future if anything else happens.

I’d like to say I’ve been on trucknet for a few years now and I find that you are always quick
to cuss agy drivers. Please could you stop because most of us are just trying to earn a living like you
and it not good to tarnish with everyone with the same brush.

This is what I miss about the old days, where you could sort things out yourself. I’m an old ■■■■ now, but I’d probably have turned his lights out and lost me job. Having said that, 30 or 40 year ago, it would have been all settled whether the boss knew or not and you’d both be handballing stuff together the next day. Yes I have been known to fly off the handle and still do sometimes… trouble is the wife hits back.

The thing to remember is this: Sooner or later he will give his tough guy spiel to someone only too happy to oblige, and he will learn his lesson the hard way. Just humour these Neanderthals, that is all they merit.
