Sad to see another small haulier go really. If you go back in that story to about 2006 (link) you’ll see a quote …
The firm had appeared before North-Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Mark Hinchliffe over drivers’ hours offences and vehicle maintenance.
Now i’ve no idea what the hours offences where, but the vehicle maintainance you would find hard to believe. As everyone knows its an immaculate, even flashy fleet. I think Wally used to show the trucks himself too, it sort of doesn’t follow that they wheren’t maintained.
And even now with a new director/owner(?) who is putting cash into it they still want to close them down?
shame had some good weekends at folkstone with thorburn drivers.
Hardly gone, just another owner Mahmood Mammoet or some bugger.
Caught this one back in Feb 2009 in Avonmouth
Always thought they had a nice fleet and well looked after
Yeah they have some nice trucks shame to see another company go, also there is a driver who works for thorburn on here

Not only a driver Josh, there is a member of the Thorburn family too

A flashy fleet dont always mean well maintaned.
Could (and I say this with no knowledge of how they worked) be that defects we not sorted out, running past planed service times etc then theres the fact in the artical that Mr W Thorburn was seen regularly at the depot when he was ment to have no input into the company.
As for the new bloke thats bought them and put money into them could this be just someone who has more than an intrest in the company ie a friend of the family
I dont know there just questions that we dont have the answers or facts to.
The only way to know the facts is if someone would tell us. but then would they have the nuts and bolts to tell the truth.
Like with all companys there are good and bad.If they were bad it can only be a good thing they are gone but in saying that the rotten apples should not be allowed to have anything to do with transport, I say that across the board and not just this company.
If the drivers are bending the rules then more fool them it aint worth it as it shows.
That said wish all that have lost jobs there the best for the future.
Such a shame to see such a high profile hauler go down, i know he has his knockers , and i know from a friend who DID work for him , he was a hard man to work forand liked his pound of flesh , and it was all flash and no cash
Having sayed that the quote in the (roadtransport.com/Articles/2 … ation.html) states that wally threatened a transport manager ! ( "He also said that the previous transport manager had left after threats from Wallace!!!) ,
But the guy ran one if not the smartest fleet on the roads ,i hope the new guy (Mansoor Hussain) has better luck at making a transport company work , if i was him i think a name change would be 1st to be done , as the name carrys to much baggage even Jeanette Thorburn admit it so in her quotes !
I wish all the staff best of luck and hope all jobs can be saved !
Reading the article it more or less says that Hussain did not have the finances to run the fleet hence the reason the plug has been pulled
Hussain did not have the finances
21k to keep a fleet like that running just 'aint anywhere near enough, 210k might have persuaded the powers that be, but the old man sticking his oar in was the deciding factor I think in this case.
If they have been up before the LA for running bent, then good riddance to them.
i seen a fh volvo of theres last week going over thelwall southbound, and a r series scania m57 in towards switch island looked very tidy
They have been under all kinds of guises over the years, something will happen and they will resurface just wait and see !!! They’ve had a reputation for a long time.
Wheel Nut:
Not only a driver Josh, there is a member of the Thorburn family too
or was malc, summat tells me she might not bother coming on shouting the odds this time 'round
don’t anyone bother giving it the what a shame, the same cargo will have to be moved, hopefully by
a firm who can run properly, and therefore employ the same, same amount of or more drivers within the law

Here’s some bedtime reading for someone
transporttribunal.gov.uk/jud … 0Jones.doc
In light of Mike C’s evidence. I am waiting for Ms Thorburn to appear.
Interesting reading!!
