This was a nasty one

on the assumption that “mr singh” wont exactly look like paul hogans brother, then how prolific is driving a truck in australia on the pipe, when your on the pipe??
is it across the board,or just the applicable to the turban brigade?
i can see the point if it keeps you awake like speed ect,but in the movies they just smoke it and flake out.

personally i dont immediately link any thoughts of australia with drugged up drivers, but i suppose its everywhere.

im aware of previous threads from the usa members about certain import races being more likely to be involved in accidents similar to the previously mentioned views on some of the taliban ones in the uk.

i suppose itl be 12 hours before a reply till peterm and star wake up though…

Usually migrants are hard working and clean living, appreciating the opportunity they’ve been given.
Sydney motorcycle gangs have been taken over by “gentlemen of Middle-eastern appearance”,to distribute drugs, they don’t even ride.
Our biggest issue is sub-contentals who can’t drive, cutting rates to unsustainable levels.
A few years ago, when cheap, roadside drug testing kits became available the cops setup to test all passing trucks. With a hit rate of less than one percent, they started to test car drivers and got a hit rate of seventeen percent.
I’m of the opinion that drug taking is not driven by the job, the druggies just happen to be driving trucks.
Ice is a big problem here and getting worse.

peterm…the op from down under…he always posts late night/early morning uk time.

I know here we are covered by the ‘good samaritan’ law (can’t remember the number sorry) that if you render first aid or aid in any way, the person receiving the aid can’t then sue you if anything goes wrong

There was a time when first aiders were hesitate to help in an emergency because of the likelyhood they may be sued for some reason.

I have no confirmation but have been told it’s a valid concern in the USA

I’m here I’M HERE. I haven’t just rolled outa the pit… honest. I’m not too sure how it goes nowadays, but in times of yore drivers were on regular doses of yippee beans. Brisbane to Melbourne in one hit needed some help as did the north Qld trips to Brisbane or points south. I conked out in the middle of a busy road with the prop shaft laying on the ground. The towie came and while chatting on the way to our yard he told me what he’s been doing… what a bloody marathon. It must have been three days since he’d stopped. No tacho in his 650 horse Kenny, just a loud pedal that must have been permanently flat to the mat.

Peterm, as I said earlier, I reckon the druggies are using the job as an excuse. They’d be putting crap into their bodies if they were doing a different job, or on the dole.
Admittedly, I might be a bit naive when it comes to drugs, but I’ve seen more evidence of drug taking between Brisbane/Mt Isa/Darwin/Adelaide than on the Eastern seaboard.
I’ve been poking around the mainland for over forty years, gaining a reputation as a decent mile maker. I’ve never had the need to resort to taking drugs, even when doing 5,000 km every week, towing, unloading and hand reloading three trailers. First drop, regular as clockwork, Sunday morning.

I’ll have to beg to differ, but not 100%. I’m sure you’re right about druggies using the job as an excuse, but look at some of the firms that went to the wall because of exposure. Hawkins for instance. They were pushing drivers to go way beyond their legal hours. It happened years ago but nowadays it just ain’t worth it and with this latest one, we’ve got four dead. I’d say there’s a good chance that this Punjabi chauffeur would have been on the beans just to make a name for himself, but there’s still firms out there that push it. You ever seen TNT etc and then star trek up the Pacific or inland Sydney to Brisbane. Different firms, but same crap. They remind you of Russ Hinzes mob, F&H (flying high) tippers.

Harkers, not Hawkins.
I got banned from Star Track for being ten minutes late into Seventeen Mile Rocks, out of Melbourne. I told him he was too late, I’d already decided they weren’t worth carting for.
I knew F&H as fast & heavy. Did you hear abot the pair of mermaids who had the temerity to knock an F&H off for overloading? They suddenly found themselves transfered to Longreach.
No doubt we’re looking at different facets of the same rough diamond, explaining our different points of view. As I said, I’m pretty naive regarding drugs, I don’t know an upper from a downer.

just being nosey now, peterm how long have you been down under as I read a post of yours about your mom on the dunny  … and star down under same ? for you… if you tell me to ■■■■ off i’ll understand  ,just interested… regards m.a.n rules

I’ve never left or had a passport. My sister goes to the UK and another European country or Iceland every year and keep trying to persuade me to go too, but no way, far too cold and crowded for this little black duck!

I appreciate your honesty s.d.u, I wouldn’t expect anything else from a proper aussie  … on a lighter note your sis is right get out there and have a look you would be amazed… regards…

Mate, I’ve lost count of how many laps of this country, I’ve done but not seen much of it. I want to go back and look at all the places I’ve only ever thundered through in the dark. To that end, I’ve bought a M.A.N. coach that I’m halfway through converting to a motorhome.

yep, know what your talking about mate. I mean you’ve got a whole continent to explore and what a way to do it in a converted bus.) :sunglasses:
me and the mrs do similar here in the uk as in places i’ve passed thru and thought i’ll come back here one day and slowly but surely we are ticking then off. happy travels . regards

The old memory ain’t what it used to be so Harkers it is. Ha ha, fancy trying to touch F&H… should have known better. Wonder if they’re still out there. Yeah all those carters that flew up the east coast instead of the stuff going by air like it was supposed to.

Me and my mrs came out in '74, after the Brisbane floods and two weeks before cyclone Tracy hit Darwin… bloody near turned round and went back. The dunny thing was before we got here, my family came out in '69 which brings on another story. I’d separated from my first wife and was living on my own in a flat in Battersea. My parents turned up out of the blue one evening and over a cup of tea said “oh we’re going to Australia.” I’d always been a bit of a black sheep but I didn’t realise how much.
Anyway the rest is history. We’ve been back a few times and watched it degenerate to it’s present state of overcrowding and crime.
Now you can ■■■■ off.

Nice looking bus star. Just refitting to live in or mechanical stuff to do as well? The reason we keep going back to the UK is the same as you with Oz… been all over the place but haven’t seen it.

Never been sure police pulling cars on to the hard shoulder for speeding doesn’t risk more lives than it saves.

It was still in service when I bought it, so mechanically sound. I’ve built the kitchen and bedroom but still have to do the plumbing and electrical.
I’ll probably go for a composting dunny and the shower will have to be sunk into the bins. I’m undecided on the electrics, 12, 24 or 240V.
