If they (the bosses) want longer artics, why not B doubles like here in Oz? Oh no, I’ve probably wound CF up now.
Hang the expense, go super b. Just the shot for Carryfast to deliver magazines to Newsagents.

So what exactly is the point of this thread?Netherlands? What’s the excuse there?
I was about to post that. A country slightly larger than Wales, with 17 million inhabitants. Been using ELV’s for years. Sure, only on selected roads/routes, but then these are not meant for deliveries to begin with. My biggest worry would not be ‘will it fit’ , but ‘can I find enough driver who are not stupid’?

One at a time I hope, think of the broken back!
Harry Monk:
The other issue with supporting this type of thing of course is that you run the risk of Carryfast agreeing with you.
I don’t get it.He’s already said that driving an artic let alone an A double outfit is just an ego trip he’d obviously be much happier driving a 7.5 tonner or was that a bus.Or I’ve missed something.
No I don’t really agree that an A train would work here in most cases unlike a Scandinavian or NZ type 3 or 4 + 4 or 5 drawbar outfit.

Cream ya jeans.
Here you go better days that’s a proper ‘prime mover’ and that’s a proper ‘road train’.

Will we see a worthwhile increase in our take home pay? Methinks not.
No, if anything you will see a reduction in take-home pay since fewer drivers will be required to undertake the same number of movements.

And it’ll soon be cheaper to hire an artic to take you home rather than a taxi as rates continue to fall.

Yeah I used to see the super B’s at Fishermans Island, Brisbane. Needed a bit of room to get round the roundabouts.

Which goes against the whole history of road transport progress.
So why didn’t you just stop at class 3 or even 7.5t why did you want to get a class 1 ?.Surely you wouldn’t have wanted to earn less to drive a larger wagon and vice versa.
It’s obvious that greater efficiency means more demand for the service making it viable to send more stuff further. In the case of LHV’s by consolidating different truck loads, originating from different locations that otherwise wouldn’t be viable.
In the form of larger drawbar type operations and with that more drivers employed in the corresponding increased trunking operations not less.
But unfortunately our anti road transport government knows it.
Although I doubt if it would make much difference at present fuel and depreciation costs as a proportion of revenue whether 44t or 60t and the government won’t be allowing the latter any time soon.

So why do drivers want class 1 work. When there’s a lot more van, 7.5t and 18 tonner type work out there.Truck drivers arguing against LHV’s is an oxymoron. When they’d obviously prefer to drive a van for more money on the basis of smaller the vehicle the higher the wage and better quality work.Yeah right.
What I’m seeing is drivers who are scared to drive anything with more than one point of articulation and trying to hide it with bs.

B trains are an inferior design meaning load transfer and more cut in.As opposed to using A frame drawbars and seperate bogies which means no load transfer and less cut in for the equivalent overall length.
It’s obvious that NZ drawbar type configurations would work better here than an A or B double artic outfit.

The Dutch have been profitable on local traffic for many years, well you are when you can run at 50 tonne.

Exactly. And someone also reminded me about the fact some run in Ireland now too.

The pathological liar strikes again. Via social media I’m one of the most vocal drivers in the industry so baffling why you feel need to lie about me constantly

It looks like your selective memory issues have struck again. You’re the one who mentioned the ego word first. So exactly what did you mean and why would you have any interest in, or be advocating LHV’s in that case ?.
It was also obviously you who mentioned the ‘beneath’ word.
Why would you even think that when the issue is clearly too much crap work in the industry precisely because of the inefficiencies imposed by length and weight limits and road fuel taxation, deliberately making the decent work ever more economically unviable for operators to do.

It’s obvious that what you’re all about is just like your Euro artic history. LHV’s would be good for the face fits elite which you perceive yourself to be.
But 7.5t or class 3 work is good enough for others calling them egotists if they complain. All on the basis of a laughably hypocritical do as I say not as I do regime to maintain that situation.

I meant what I said, that people obsessed with driving bigger trucks are usually compensating for something. Made no comment about anything but them, not about bigger trucks, not about drivers that aren’t them, not about myself, just their obsession because I’ve met many, but as usual you’ve created an entire fake meaning in your head which leads me to my next point…
Carryfast:

Are. You. F*****. Kidding. Me. How the actual f**** have you come to that conclusion. How many times over how many months over how many comments have I clearly and straightforwardly pointed out again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again that I’m nothing of the sort, that I’m an average driver that has had lots of jobs and I’ve pointed out to you so so so so many times anyone could have done it, even you and you’ve just constructed this elite nonsense to make up for your own failings. The ‘elite’ is a total fiction made in that crazy brain of yours. How I can perceive myself to be something I don’t think exists is a bit baffling. The only person who perceives me to be in this group is you. No. One. Else… FFS you didn’t use to be this bad at understanding things.
Carryfast:

Says the professional liar with a very distant relationship with the truth
For future reference as you seem confused- if you see me mentioning being an elite driver guess what? I’m taking the pee out of your stupid idea, not actually thinking I am one. Though you’ll no doubt intentionally misunderstand and lie again. It’s. A. ■■■■. Take.

My biggest worry would not be ‘will it fit’ , but ‘can I find enough driver who are not stupid’?
Auto boxes and a ‘C+E’ training regime based on close coupled drawbars doesn’t exactly help with washing out the no hopers who can’t/won’t reverse a proper LHV outfit or who can’t even drive anything properly going forwards.
While it’s obviously ok to use ‘stupid’ drivers for ‘normal’ trucks. While forcing many of those who can actually drive into crap work because their face doesn’t fit. That’s even if the rail freight lobby and their government puppets will allow LHV’s on the roads.
Having said that if they want to go with Electric trucks the battery weight issue will force the issue. At which point the rail lobby obviously loses it’s supposed ‘eco’ friendly image with electric truck v electric, more likely diesel, freight train anyway.
While more than two points of articulation is obviously a liability.
Although my bet is that I could reverse that Norwegian A double outfit further than Switch could even though I’ve not driven a truck for more than 20 years.
I’m actually starting to think Carryfast is actually a genius troll, as surely no one on earth is quite that stupid in reality
I have just found out that Carryfast will be the nurse administrating your vaccination tomorrow, the side affects could be talking about Chinese and Russian politics, A frame trailers and their braking efficiency, the rise and fall of British Leyland .
If you see his car , an E registration plate Austin Allegro in the Vacination centre staff car park, start running.
