Old thread warning!

[ just in case it wasn’t noticed!!!]

Well that was a trip down memory lane.

Update from me. Still the same feckless nerdowell I have always been.
This years plans are Thailand then Malaysia and a fact finding would you like to give
me a job trip to New Zealand. :sunglasses:

Hi, Dover is an absolute ■■■■■■■■ full of romany like cousins from acros the water try folkestone or ashford slightly higher rents in ashford but better suited for agency work around maidstone sittingbourne areas and still only 15 min from dover and 10 to lympe ind est where a lot of the continental boys are.
There is a reasonable amount of agency work around if you dont mind supermarkets

^^^IIRC no fixed address no bank account allowed in the UK.

Thats a minor hurdle to overcome, like I said its just a suggestion. If you want an alternative lifestyle and to leave convention behind, then a little bit of ducking and diving is required. I have found that over the years many people have said to me you cannot do A because of B, and I think it stems from fear of the unknown or living without a safety net.

If you dare to live life differently, then certain members of society will be shocked at your easy going approach to life. I have many examples of how people think I should be just like them, here is one.

On a recent visit to the U.K. I went to see an old pal of mine, he drives for a builders merchants. He lives in a nice house and is married with 2 kids.

About 20 years ago our lives took different paths, he got married and I went travelling and working away.
After catching up for a hour or so he explained a typical day of his to me, in short this is his routine monday to friday he works 7.30am to 5 ish pm, he stops at the off licence on his way home and buys 4 cans, this is to help him sleep and as he sees it a reward for working so hard.
His weekends consist of more drinking and tv watching and the odd trip to the pub for karaoke night.
whilst we chatted his overweight/overbearing wife constantly scolded him,his teenage gothic looking nightmare of a daughter stared at him with open hostilty and the baby screamed upstairs for attention.
He then looked at me with a face that looks 10 years older than me although he is the same age as myself, and I quote said, So when are you going to stop ZBing around living your life like your on holiday and settle down.

Well I thought as I drove away if a similar fate as yours awaits me then not bloody likely anytime soon.

Anyway my point is that people will throw up all sorts of barriers as to why you should not do something different with your life and not having an address is one of them.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but I have a bit of time on my hands and just thought I would like to put down a few thoughts. As always good luck with whatever you decide.

Cracking post this…I know a few folk like your friend…

Some people sell up and sod off on a motorbike for years on end - why not do it in a truck■■? Personally,I’d prefer the bike, but you can at least get paid whilst in a truck…

Go for it… :grimacing:

I’m wondering now how Kenno78 got on and did he ever realise his dreams

It didn’t stop Harry Rednapp and his dog

Kenno78,have you tried Britannia Superfine at Polegate near Eastborne,i am not sure what they are like, but i drove 200 miles to drop an application form off,and they could not be bothered to contact me,they would have seen it had to stamp on the envelope, all that effort for nothing.
I know that firms like Pulleyns at Reading and Davies from Southampton have filling cabinets full of driver application forms, they do not leave once they are there, like dead mans shoes.
If you are fluent in French and take their FIMO,like the Drivers CPC,maybe venture over the channel for large French haulier.JC Fiolet,Transportes Saint Arnauld,or TSA.Waberers is a large Hungarion fleet, they have thousands of truck all over Europe.
Even farther afield is the Portuguese firms,Patinter,Torrese Tir,Stop Trans Lda,wages are low at 1000 to 1200 euros a month, you will have to cook and eat from the side of the trailer.Mainly Ukrainian and Brazilian drivers.
The large Spanish fridge hauliers, based at Almeria,Elche,Malaga,Murcia and Alicante, tend to have South American drivers,Peruvians,Columbians,Argentiniean, and Chileans.
If you do get lucky, dont forget to get the boss to print out an attestation activity form,if have no tacho records to show the road side enforcement officers,or there is a gap in the last 28 days.Check all the trucks paperwork, make sure it matches up,ask to verify the insurance.Another option is firms that do international removals.

This thread is a couple of years old Tobes, all that info you just typed in was a waste of time.

Im currently residing in south east london, single now as me and her have now seperated’ and i have roughly 6 weeks left before my tenancy run’s out here. I Passed my C+E in september 2008, and have’nt used that entitlement as yet as i didnt want to leave my current full time well payed job for agency work (i would’nt have been able to afford to live if i’d have changed jobs). I have been working as part of a road resurfacing gang for the past 15 years now, collecting Tarmac/muck away/hand digging holes etc etc, and have absolutely had enough of the filthy dirty ■■■■■■ work. I am thinking about relocating somewhere on the south east coast, i.e Dover, folkestone etc to find some C+E work (agency or not) and just wanted some advice and peoples opinions regarding this move. I eventually would like to tramp over europe, and there is nothing stopping me from doing this now! (apart from the old “experience” chesnut). Im sure there would be more C+E companies within these areas that do european runs, than there will be here. Im earning good money at the moment in what im doing, but im just not happy doing this type of work anymore, as driving is all i wanna do now regardless of how much im going to earn.(obviously i need to pay the rent) If there is anybody here from Dover, folkestone areas that can give us some advice or company names, and how life is living on the kent coastal areas then i would much appreciate it chaps.

Regards,

Wayne. :stuck_out_tongue:

If you want to do continental work then Dover is the best place in the UK to look for it.

Try Husk’s yard on the A2, or Coombe Valley Road, or Tilmanstone maybe. It won’t be a shoo-in though, it’s as difficult here as anywhere else.

Cheers for the reply Harry,

I know isnt going to be easy, but i can only keep on plugging away ay!
i will do a bit of homework on these companies too’

Many Thanks Mate,

Wayne

Hiya,i work for laser transport at lympne near folkestone, doubt they got anything at the mo,no one seems to leave.
Also in the yard is Roland Barton transport who do abroad etc,SMS they run fridges and vans,Alcaline, but i think you have to be east european for that,Davie Malcome and various other companies at this estate, junction 11 off the M20,follow lympne industrial estate signs.
In Dover there is Active transport,Online Mike Beer and Charlwood(matthuess),AC Wellard,Cavendish ships stores. These are at Whitfield Port Zone, just off the A2 about 3 miles from the docks off the Mcdonalds roundabout.
At Tilmanstone (about 5minutes from Whitfield)there is Bywater transport, and G.K Friend(bulkers).
At Aylesham industrial estate Just of the A2 there is Ovenden (6 and 8 wheel tippers)money crap tho
At Husk at Lydden there is Clan international and Sealane.
Coombe Valley Transport on Coombe Valley road In the town.

sorry i dont have the numbers but hope you might be able to look em up
good luck

Thanks very much Propalorry for that for that list of info!
Thats just what i was after mate’
Brilliant stuff much appreciated!

Regards,

Wayne.

try the van den bosch job on other post 3 weeks in europe 1 week at home

Just to that Sealane,in the Husk yard,do use casual drivers, maybe a way in,see their website for email contact. They turned me down only because i didn’t live in East Kent which was one of their conditions

Just a suggestion, why not forget about getting a new property and live in the truck, if an employer knows that he can send you down the road at anytime, you will get a more varied workload.
Plus being single every penny of your wages will be mounting up in your account, set yourself a time limit, like say 6 months. Then take a month off.

This way of working does not suit everyone, but it works for me, the longest I have lived in a truck was 15 months, after which I spent nearly 3 years travelling in Asia.

Like I said its just a suggestion,so good luck whatever you decide to do cheers
