Just a suggestion, why not forget about getting a new property and live in the truck, if an employer knows that he can send you down the road at anytime, you will get a more varied workload.
Plus being single every penny of your wages will be mounting up in your account, set yourself a time limit, like say 6 months. Then take a month off.
This way of working does not suit everyone, but it works for me, the longest I have lived in a truck was 15 months, after which I spent nearly 3 years travelling in Asia.
Like I said its just a suggestion,so good luck whatever you decide to do cheers
Hi oatcake and thanks for your reply and advice mate.
Living in the truck would suit me fine mate! as that is what ive wanted to do for a long time now, i think the only problem i would have will be finding somebody to take me on, as i have’nt driven a C+E type vehicle since passing my test in september 2008 and have just been driving 8 wheeler grab trucks since then. I would go for a refresher course before taking on a job anyway. I was just thinking to rent somewhere cheap anyway as the properties are alot cheaper to rent in Dover than where im currently living. My plan is to move to Dover area, stick with my current job for maybe a few more months which will mean travelling back into london everyday for a while, then maybe hunt around the local area for some partime, or weekend work and see if i can get me foot in the door that way.

Thanks again for all the Replies Lad’s, very much appreciated.
Wayne.
Why not try Folkestone, your only 10 mins from Dover and it is an interesting place, also there is a lorry park at the port with loads of drivers in and out of the local pubs, always a good source of info. Dont worry to much about the lack of experience, if you are in the right place at the right time you will get a start. Then you can dazzle them with your skills and roberts your uncles brother. Cheers good luck
You could try sending a PM to T/N member switchlogic, he drives for an Irish company called Virginia I think, lives in the truck and tramps all over Europe. He maybe able to give you a few pointers!!
If you checkout his posts he says he is on Twitter… twitter.com/lukevernon
Good luck anyway.
I will look into folkestone mate and also switchlogic for some info.
Many thanks again chaps.

^^^IIRC no fixed address no bank account allowed in the UK.
Thats a minor hurdle to overcome, like I said its just a suggestion. If you want an alternative lifestyle and to leave convention behind, then a little bit of ducking and diving is required. I have found that over the years many people have said to me you cannot do A because of B, and I think it stems from fear of the unknown or living without a safety net.
If you dare to live life differently, then certain members of society will be shocked at your easy going approach to life. I have many examples of how people think I should be just like them, here is one.
On a recent visit to the U.K. I went to see an old pal of mine, he drives for a builders merchants. He lives in a nice house and is married with 2 kids.
About 20 years ago our lives took different paths, he got married and I went travelling and working away.
After catching up for a hour or so he explained a typical day of his to me, in short this is his routine monday to friday he works 7.30am to 5 ish pm, he stops at the off licence on his way home and buys 4 cans, this is to help him sleep and as he sees it a reward for working so hard.
His weekends consist of more drinking and tv watching and the odd trip to the pub for karaoke night.
whilst we chatted his overweight/overbearing wife constantly scolded him,his teenage gothic looking nightmare of a daughter stared at him with open hostilty and the baby screamed upstairs for attention.
He then looked at me with a face that looks 10 years older than me although he is the same age as myself, and I quote said, So when are you going to stop ZBing around living your life like your on holiday and settle down.
Well I thought as I drove away if a similar fate as yours awaits me then not bloody likely anytime soon.
Anyway my point is that people will throw up all sorts of barriers as to why you should not do something different with your life and not having an address is one of them.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but I have a bit of time on my hands and just thought I would like to put down a few thoughts. As always good luck with whatever you decide.
I like your way of thinking mate oatcake1967
