They really are...

Arrogant, dangerous to$$ers

That wasn’t really the whole story was it?

There was a second group attracted to “high status” cars, they were the Conscientious types.

And reading the last paragraph, how long before we see drivers of EV’s join the same group, as owning one becomes a status symbol, which it will, I’ve already seen the arrogant, superior, attitude on social media post from some EV’s owners.

Just don’t mention cyclists…

Off on a tangent…

There’s an interesting report just published, by a reputable organisation, that reveals when the air is very dirty, modern diesel cars take in more particles than they put out. So ‘high risk’ air pollution days should see drivers of modern diesels encouraged to drive into town to ‘clear the air’.

Interestingly, the study confirms that brakes and tyres cause more PM pollution than exhausts. Heavy powerful cars on cheap fat tyres are the worst offenders, it seems.

Do you have a link to that report and be interesting to see who its funded by?

I would imagine that the diesel car has to be at it optimum operating temperature for it to work, however I’m sure most of them on short runs never get there.

I can see with the rise of EV’s the anti car lobby will have to aim their venom at Brakes and tyres to achieve their real goal of banning all private car use.

On a sales pitch at last place it was presented that in certain scenarios the latest Euro 6 engines can effectively clean the air but theres a caveat in the fact that when it “cleans the air” it also at some point needs to dump it pit of the filter when undergoing a regen.

I couldnt find any study link but did find this fleeteurope.com/en/new-ener … -clean-air?

Just upgraded to a 2017 rs3. 2.5 litre turbo charged monster. 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. Out accelerates almost anything this side of £150k.

Apparently.

I pootle to work in it rarely going over 30!

Come to think of it, that probably puts me in the “conscientious” bracket. I didn’t get the car to show off or hoon about in, I got the car because it’s a bloody good car.

Not sure at 13 Years old it will still come into the high status bracket the research is talking about, not that’s a bad thing, the great thing about these high status motors is once they get too old to be one you can get a lot of car for not a lot of money.

Ha, why pay all that money? Buy a motorbike for 5k that’ll blow your 150k car off the road.

The general idea is not to get run over by a lorry or any other vehicle, although the way some ride I’m not so sure.

Well rain seems to put off a certain type of rider, others get on with it, just move the screen a bit further up, although I personally prefer the cold to the rain, then just turn the heated grips and seats on.

It’s been a lot of decades and neither have got me yet.

Hey, they all ain’t poor. There are still some pros about. I tend to stick to twisty country roads and tracks so reduce my chances of meeting the bad ones.

Its an Emissions Analytics report. I think they are held up as independent/reputable.

If we tackle diesel vehicles first, the truth is that they have emitted very few particles, at least in relative terms, since the broad introduction of diesel particulate filters a decade ago. So long as this filter has not malfunctioned or been tampered with, emissions are low over typical driving cycles, even taking into account the significantly elevated levels during the periodic ‘regeneration’ of the filter where the accumulated particles are burned off.
Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with the leading European automotive publisher, Auto Motor und Sport, to test four recent models of diesel cars.

TBH, I only started this as a bit of a laugh, and I should have made that clearer.

Some people who have spent a lot on a car seem to think that this entitles them to drive in an arrogant, selfish manner, for sure…but there are others who drive scruffy old cars who don’t seem to give a monkey’s about anyone else either.

As someone who rides motorcycles and bicycles, I have to say that truck drivers are usually the most considerate group of ‘others’ I encounter when on two wheels.

So, thank you.

Ha, I think mrginge was being facetious however as someone else who rides motorcycles and bicycles I think you may be a little biased.
Personally I find drivers act completely different when on a motorcycle compared to a bicycle. I also think it depends in the area you live but in reality all groups have good and bad and I don’t think any group stands out. Most would benefit from opening their eyes and stop being so impatient.
