Five London bus workers have now died as a result of Covid 19. This must be a very worrying time to be cooped up, virtually in a cage and in an enclosed space unable to escape close contact with large numbers of people.
Why did the bus company allow people to still pay in cash? Driver handles money, puts hands back on controls…only has to wipe his brow and its game set and match to the Chinese disease. Beggars belief. Those poor drivers and their families. Questions need to be answered.

If we assume (yeah, I know) all journeys now being made are necessary, is there any need for any charging, ticketing, or supervision of such?
.
RIP.

I thought London buses were cashless, oyster card only.

They are, you haven’t been able to pay with cash on a London bus for at least the last two years that I know of.
RIP a sad loss.
Trouble is if one passenger has it every passenger who catches that bus the same day (or between deep cleans) has a high risk of catching it, drivers have multiplied risk.
Should be 1-2 passengers per bus max— sounds extreme but extreme risks require extreme measures.
Shows how long it is since I have been on a bus. Tragic all the same. Some workers are taking a far bigger risk than others.
Typical bus drivers , you wait for days for 1 to die then 5 come along all together …
Sorry for the inappropriate joke , no harm meant…
But on a serious note this just highlights that it’s not just the NHS workers ( who are amazing ) that are putting their lives at risk to keep the country ticking over , there are regular folk plodding on as usual under the radar who also need a hero status .
RIP gents and thoughts and prayers go out to their families left behind.
What I’ve seen of London busses, they all have a plastic screen between the driver and the passengers as well.
I read a report earlier that said unite were surprised the government wasnt looking after bus drivers…( National Express ) has parked up all of their buses for the forseeable future…but expected the government to supply more safety…i went on ebay and bought face masks and gloves, they could do the same and give the receipt to the management…if they were that concerned. Unite di offer as much help as they could to the deceased families…should have offered a lot more before it happened in my opinion, but then again…it is a union after all.
R.I.P. to those drivers, and indeed to anyone who has lost their lives to this terrible virus…god bless all of their families too, as not only have they lost loved ones, they never got the chance to say goodbye, and many couldnt even attend the funeral…sad times for all…stay safe everyone.
There was a bus driver in America who made a video that ended up going viral in which he was complaining about a passenger on his bus openly coughing. He died from Corona virus less than 2 weeks later.
So many people are being put at unbelievable levels of risk just in the course of doing their jobs, often with few, if any, protective measures in place.
The attitudes and actions of the few have much greater consequences for the many.

London buses have been entirely cashless for a couple of years now.

Indeed. London buses have been cashless for some time now. All fitted with an assault screen, payment by oyster or contactless bank cards.
Sky news are reporting that 15 London bus drivers have died now.

WTF.
They interviewed a Unite guy, and I thought he said they handled money. Was mistaken, does not detract from the fact that the driver has to breathe in the collective fug through the ventilation system. Whatever is going around is going to get piped into the cab eventually. It is some death toll for an organisation outside the NHS. Bus companies must be dreading the forthcoming litigation.
Sincere condolences to any on here affected.
Any confined space is a virus’s ■■■■■■■■■, let’s face it virus’s molecules are like a slowly deflating helium balloon they waft about in the air much longer than it takes someone to enter your safe social distance.
Me I only stand behind small people now .
But mangina hysteria aside Bus drivers are at massive risk and I wouldn’t do their job for love nor money… A sad loss but number of deaths will invetiably unfortunately increase.
They are on the front line they just don’t know it…
It’s not exactly rocket science to note that anyone who regularly uses public transport, let alone spending the whole working day in that environment is at a hugely greater risk of contracting any sort of disease that is transmitted by droplets, coughs, sneezes etc. I daresay this is pretty much the reason this Coronavirus has taken such a hold in London, with other big cities being close behind.
Very sad to hear, poor chaps have a thankless job as it is, I’d say more thankless than lorry drivers tbh as at least in a wagon your fairly isolated in all regards hey.
Thoughts an prayers to those lost, their families and for all of them who are still carrying on in the job, huge respect too em all [emoji482][emoji636]
