It always amazes me that during bad weather like this people in so many other jobs are told not to work, but people still expect truck drivers to work, despite it being obviously dangerous. But turn up somewhere with the wrong colour hard hat and you can’t come onto their site.
I like it best were we can make our own decisions. Would we honestly like it if there was a regional blanket ban on the movement of HGV’s if the weather wasn’t up to scratch? There would be outrage

I’d prefer that aswell, but drivers have also got to feel they can make the call not to go any further without being pressured from their bosses and haulage companies have got to be able to make decisions to keep their trucks off the road without worrying that their customers will go elsewhere.

The A628 Woodhead pass has been closed to high sided vehicles.
Whats considered high sided though?
I’d say anything with a trailer on really, apart from a flat unless it was carrying a high load that is not really heavy like we do when we carry 6 metre long drainage pipes stacked 3 packs high upto a height of 16 foot 2 inch sometimes. Fully loaded you would be weighing out about 17 tonne gross.

Very well put and a point that should be reminded to these jobsworth Health and Safety bods next time they have to change a light-bulb.
passed 2 lying on their sides M1 j.29 ish,a Volvo artic and a rigid, and a DHL artic that had just been picked up,and was being towed away and a 10 mile queue behind.

you’ll more than likely have a P45 waiting for you in your pigeon hole when you get back. TM’S these days don’t give a [zb] about drivers welfare or safety, all they care about is the load gets from A-B and earns the company money.
+1. Nobody out there gives a zb about us, we are a replaceable commodity Judy like the goods we carry…

The white car under it isn’t a good sight either
The green one looks worse than the merc
The white one looks as if it was parked up?
not on that road. single carriageway and its NSL. i drove up there just after 3 this morning going home after the good news that i am working saturday instead of tonight
Its time the government put a regulation in place where there is amber warning for gale force winds lorries over a certain height are parked up.
The whole Scottish rail network was shut down this morning and rightly so .
Planes get cancelled, ferry sailings stopped etc…
But the most vulnerable form of transport (hi sided trucks) are expected to get on with.
As for being threatened with a P45 for parking up , id like to see that one in court .
Some drivers shoot themselves in the foot right enough . The guy who thought it was smart to go over the Friarton Bridge at Perth, has no doubt had a very very luck escape , but he will no doubt fined himself with points on his licence for his stupid actions .
That Bridge was closed to hi-siders as of 05:30 but he ignored the warning.
