It’s ok saying park up but you know what some maybe most firms are like. You turn around and say you are finishing for the day or parking up as it’s unsafe to carry on or park up until it dies down and you’ll more than likely have a P45 waiting for you in your pigeon hole when you get back. TM’S these days don’t give a ■■■■ about drivers welfare or safety, all they care about is the load gets from A-B and earns the company money.
Imagine a driver or yourself doing this but then all the other drivers in the company are still out there on the road it doesn’t look good on you. I agree that if a driver thinks it’s unsafe to carry on he decides if he wants to carry on or not, I can imagine the phone call though, “Im just ringing to say im parking up for the day as it is unsafe for me to carry on in this weather” TM," You what■■?! Don’t be daft it’s perfectly safe for you to continue and the roads aren’t closed are they?" Driver,“Well no the roads aren’t closed but I’m being blown all over the place” TM,“Are there any other trucks on the road?” Driver," Errrr yeah, and?" TM," Right then crack on, once you’ve tipped that you’ve got a backload out of Tillbury to be in Liverpool for 14:00 tomorrow" :unamused:

Got to agree with you there, however now considering the m6 is shut now at Therwall viaduct northbound, Barton Bridge is shut clockwise, the m6 up in ■■■■■■■ is shut both sides, not much left oh and theres an RTC southbound 15 - 14 M6 thats just shut the motorway, lorry and coach involved. Not good out there.

Its the worst ive known it for a good few year. I’m in the warehouse at the minuite and i’m glad i’m not out there driving in this today. I wonder if Woodhead and Snake pass and the A66 are shut for high sided vehicles? as the OP says. stay safe and drive safe out there lad’s and lasses.

How true this is.

Stay safe out there. I’m sat at home fortunately. Two prolapsed discs in my back. :frowning:

The green one looks worse than the merc

Reducing speed will help a lot and still enable the job to be done.

I’d like to see a company defend sacking a driver for refusing to drive in these conditions, in front of an industrial tribunal.

One over on its side on the Redheugh Bridge, Gateshead, blocking all 4 lanes and closed the bridge for the rest of the day.

Well I’ve been parked up since 06.00 and still ain’t moving.
My gaffer ain’t happy, but you’ve got to think of the children haven’t you.

The agency just sent me a start time for tonight.
Said no thanks due to high winds.
Lets see how that goes down.

It always amazes me that during bad weather like this people in so many other jobs are told not to work, but people still expect truck drivers to work, despite it being obviously dangerous. But turn up somewhere with the wrong colour hard hat and you can’t come onto their site. :open_mouth:

I often wonder about that tbh. Are you more likely to get blown over doing 55 than you are doing 45? I wonder what the actual physics on that are?

As it’s invariably the gust of wind from the side that takes you over I suppose you could argue that if you’d been travelling faster you’d have passed the spot before the gust happened. The same could apply to driving slower of course!

Be professional and make the RIGHT decision. If you aren’t happy that its safe to continue - don’t! Reducing speed does help but a sudden gust will soon have you over.

I drive mainly deckers and if I think its unsafe I stop and park up - why take risks for someone else’s gain?

Those drivers that don’t get home are soon forgotten usually so I’d look after me first - no one else will.

Quite nice here today … err, No it aint :frowning:

The wind kept me up most of the day,… phoned in and explained I cant do it… no problems
