The UK is short of workers

They will be back

I don’t know that they will, Germany seems to be the workplace of choice for many eastern Europeans now, in large part because it is a lot closer to home.

I don’t think that they will be back either. Maybe a few who liked it over here and want to settle, but for those who were just chasing the money and making a better wage than they could earn in their own country, things are better closer to home for them now. The next wave will probably be from Africa but I am sure that will not be on the scale of the EE wave. There are plenty of opportunities to recruit HGV drivers from within our own country by making the job more attractive to prospective entries. Prices are going to rise regardless of wage increases, this Pandemic has garanteed that fact. Increase wages, reduce the working hours and offer realistic overtime rates as an option. An attractive job rarely has a shortage of recruits.

It’s the economy that’s changed in everyone’s country.
Poland had a shortage of workers 5 years ago trying to stop the young an brilliant leaving,
Economy’s like Spain, Portugal will never change.
Personally got nothing against anyone working here but not in there 10s of thousands that wrecked drivers pay.
Job got harder an money went down

What does it matter, when you move to Spain again?

Spain have currently got a left-wing government, who are already looking at ways of fleecing cash out of the hapless ex-pat community still living there…
If only these governments of the Left started and ended the higher taxation that started with their own Champagne Socialist set running the show… being taxed to the hilt… :frowning:
Imagine Blair having to pay tax on his £3.5m per year security bill - because it gets branded a “Perk” like a company car - at some point in the future, when a more progressive taxer gets into power…
