The new,s on tesco

Whats the problem at our warehouse we now have 15 Polish and Latvians also Polish in the factory engineers etc they get paid the same as the British staff with the same working conditions and usually work harder and always after overtime. As long as they are not misused. How often do we read on this site Uk drivers looking for work in France Spain etc.
In the Cambridgeshire area there is no unemployment only those that do noy want to work.
For some it is cheaper for them to fly home for the weekend from Stansted than get the train to London

The trouble is there are to many lazy people in this country living on benifits that are better than the wage they could earn as a unskilled worker.

I have no problem with any person from any country coming here to work, as long as they pay the same taxes as me, and, its a level playing field.

I only object to illegall (sp) workers.

i keep my work and politics separate and that includes this project. i have to deliver to ethnic shops as part of my job but i get on with it. generally speaking, i do not agree with the flood of internationals that are over here but i still take people individually as i come across them.
the training is open to all users of these forums regardless of race, colour or whatever else. if they genuinely want to learn or teach then they are welcome to attend.

as for the job, necessity is the most important thing at any given time. i didnt choose to move down here. i loathe southampton but i am setting myself up at the moment and will relocate at a more appropriate time

whats wrong with southhampton always thought it a decent place with decent folk.

We need a higher minimum wage in my opinion, I know people who are on benefits who want to go to work, but would struggle to survive on the wages offered. So they have to keep claiming until they can not only find a job but one which pays well enough for them to live on.

I got talking to a driver on the way back from spain last week. Turns out he has many contacts in poland and was told that polish car drivers are paying a bribe to get a heavy goods licence…and its all on computer if anyone wants to check…so maybe thats why we see so many bad polish drivers on the road and at r.d.c`s. he also told me that Turners (soham) are starting to employ poles…but they have to work internally for 3 months…and there are a line of brand new volvos…all smashed up at the back of the warehouse…smashed by the poles. he told me of a polish driver who whilst shunting around the yard, demolished the fuel pumps and the side of the trailer…and it was on his side.
say no more…except …they deserve it…

Truckyboy I am in and out of Turners yard on regular basis and your right about the fuel pumps :unamused: brand new set of pumps been in there about 6 months , one nearly knocked of its mounts by a top quality ■■■■■■ driver :open_mouth:
There arnt any new volvos wreaked yet but thats because they have only just let them out of the p cab scanias , which they have wreaked on a regular basis.

As for the licences I am sure you are right about that as the general standard is crap, some can drive but the majority seem to be chancers without a clue,

Turners use to be a good place to work and they did take part in the young drivers scheme also they use to take class 2 drivers and pay for their tests , not now they have a endless supply of poor quality ■■■■■■■ appearing ,

This has bit Turners in the arse because now they have such a reputation as being a ■■■■■■ employer no British expierenced driver wants to work there, which isnt a big problem if you are a british driver as you have D.Smiths/AAG close by

I worked there and enjoyed the job but it has gone down hill fast since the east europeans have flooded the yard, I now sub out of there for my boss and moral is pretty low for the British boys left.
The original Mr Turner was a Gentleman and I so is his son they always had time for you, but now the grandson has a larger hold on the firm and unfortunatley just sees the bottom line so to him the ■■■■■■■ are a godsend .

As you say Trucky " say no more they deserve it.

 At that rate then, they won’t be able to afford or even get any insurance soon then ■■ :unamused:

Bunkum, No one who really wants a job lives on benefits, people say that because they dont want to seen for the lazy sods they are.

There are lots of people getting rich from the benefits system, you try and claim some and then tell me you are better off on benefits

Wheelie,do your sums, with the WTD what would the average take home pay(bottom line)not much more the someone could get on the social, thing is when the eco cycle turns round and it is the UK,s turn(remember the 80`s)to have the jobless rate over 10% the state wil pay them the same as you.

I hardly see what the WTD has to do with lazy scum not wanting jobs, the WTD has created more jobs if anything in some industries.

But because people would sooner claim benefits they pretend they cant lift boxes of burgers in macdonalds.

Is that a question? a statement or something a pole wrote for you? :stuck_out_tongue:

a few years ago it made me laugh when they opened a big new tesco superstore on the ring rd at seacroft … they made all the doleies take a job there all the people on benifit long term were told take a job or your benifits stop and when they complained that they wasnt trained they were told… DONT WORRY TESCO ARE GOING TO TRAIN YOU ALL.

Tesco’s in Folkestone advertised for months and couldn’t get anyone to do it.

They were advertising the rate at 8.50 an hour, other benefits included cheap canteen, health care and company profit scheme.

Now that seems a pretty decent wage and benefits package to me, and probably better than most drivers get.

if tesco cant get people at that wage which seems a very good wage to me what can they do■■?

and how much do people really want to stack shelves■■?

Nobody gets rich on benefits, but when your job prospects are £4.85 an hour and your outgoings are fairly low, then you are better off on them.

What I’m trying to say is not that people should just keep claiming forever, but that it really isn’t worth working for less than say £11-12k per year for certain people. It’s not their fault, it’s the employers and authorities who think £4.85 an hour is an acceptable wage nowadays.

if what I hear is correct, then I blame the government…

I haven’t had chance to research the truth yet (maybe someone more minded and skilled can do this…) BUT…

apparently the state is paying up to 2 thirds of the workers’ wages when filling roles that it’s considered can’t be filled locally, or have been advertised with insufficient adequate response (yet this is unaudited for proof).

so it’s not just cheap labour but stupidly cheap labour if they can be paid say £6 an hour instead of normal local rates, and the employer is only picking up £2 of that bill.

like I say though, I don’t know if that was just a group of drivers with conspiracy theories in their head, or the truth.

What you have to think about are the additional benefits on top of the basic dole money…

  • Extra for your partner and each child - soon adds up if you have 2,3, or more.
  • Housing Benefit - so no rent to pay.
  • Poll Tax Benefit - that’s another bill to cover.
  • Free School Meals - see above again…adds up when it’s the equivalent of 10-15 less meals to pay for over a week.
  • Free Prescriptions - At £6-odd a pop, it’s a fair whack if you and/or the missus have several regular ones.
  • Milk Tokens - Worth 1pt a day for each nipper under 1 (I think…might go on longer).

Imagine a family with 3 kids and add it up…you need a pretty hefty wage before it’s financially worth going to work…and that’s before you get into Disability Living Allowance if you can get it…worth anything up to a free car every year (taxed/tested/insured) plus more if you get the care bit as well as mobility… :open_mouth:

Sure, you can claim Tax Credits to help with the shortfall, but they don’t add up to much in practice because the amount needed to cover the benefits loss is over the “threshold” for a decent rebate…catch 22… :unamused:

Makes you thing, doesn’t it…in fact, why the hell are any of us working other than out of pride■■? Oh yes…that would be to “donate” the tax and NI which is paying for all this…

God, I’m getting right-wing in my not-very-old age… :open_mouth:
