The new meta

What is this new meta of truckers refusing to use lane 1 on 4 lane sections? I’ve noticed over the past few months that approx half of truckers just stay in lane 2 from M62 J20 at Rochdale all the way past the M60 and all the way past the M61 split without bothering to move over to lane 1 between Rochdale and Simister and Simister to the M61, both of which are a lot of miles :unamused: . Causes mayhem as all the overtakers end up in a huge conga line in lane 3 and all the cars and vans forced into lane 4 as no-one has the balls to undertake the trucks by using lane 1 :unamused: .

Speaking of new meta, have I missed a speed limit change on the first mile of the M61/M60/A666 split? Why does absolutely no-one except me exceed 50 mph through the tunnel and will only put their toe down when it splits into 3 lanes? I even find myself overtaking Fox Bros and Clive Hurt tippers who are also seemingly ‘stuck’ in the weird 50 mph trance, and anyone who is local to the area will know that those mad [zb]s usually drive like the 2020 version of Hell Drivers :open_mouth: .

I used to do that sometimes on nights on the M5 (so called smart section) for fear of smashing into someone who’s stopped in the live lane just round that bend over there.

   How on earth do you manage on a 2-lane dual carriageway? Or do you sit in lane 2 on those as well, for the same “fear” ?

I stay in the left lane obviously. I shouldn’t have said ‘‘fear’’ but more like…doing it for my own convenience and peace of mind. I wouldn’t do it on days when traffic is heavier and visibility - better. single/dual carriageways ■■■■ but traffic there is usually very light during the night and there is often space on the verge for broken down vehicles to pull over onto unlike motorways which have a ‘‘safety’’ barrier preventing any vehicle from leaving the carriageway entirely. Also around blind bends you can drop your speed to 40 mph or lower without the risk of being rear-ended by a TNT “Sure we can”

They’ll be the same “drivers” who pull up along side your empty vehicle whilst fully loaded at the red traffic light on a D/C, light goes green, you set off and leave them miles behind. You’d think that they’d learn from that encounter, but oh no, next lights and they’re there again causing carnage to following traffic in lane two once more!

Had similar in MK with the roundabouts
I only had 3 ton on and a bulked tried to keep going in lane 2 at the roundabouts to over take me even though he was loaded
So I just held the go pedal down on kick down switch and left him standing twice

To be honest prefer that the dimwits don’t use the inside lane nothing better than around Birmingham going past them as they are stopped or crawling along, leave the lanes free for those of us who can read and understand roadsigns

For most of these numpties, have a butchers in their mirrors, perma hivis wearers almost all.

Couldn’t really care what lane Mr plobski, Numnuts use’s.

Just let them carry-on, because it doesn’t bother me. Whoosh carry on.

+1…

I get paid to drive my lorry, not anyone else’s. I don’t care who’s in what lane I really don’t.

You could go for miles passing these clowns on the M6 until the council or whoever ■■■■ ed up M6 s/b J10, you can still get past a few now but not as many.
They think they’re being ‘safe’ by avoiding ‘potential hazards’ :unamused: , but all they do is ■■■■ up the traffic system that has just cost millions to put in.
As said, let them self righteously crack on, and keep out of my way.
There should be one of the famous Police ‘clamp downs’ on lane discipline, they’re missing a trick here, they could cash in, because that discipline is terrible nowadays.
You NEVER saw a truck lane hogging once over either, it was always drummed into you keep left at all times.

Strange how the ‘potential hazards’ are no longer an issue when you’re just about to start coming up the inside of them and now they want to be in lane 1 :unamused: . Had it again today between Rochdale and Miggy. I could have used lane 3 but as there was absolutely nothing in front in lane 1 for as far as I could see I just did him up the inside. I looked in as I went past and he was ■■■■■■■ about with his phone in his hand :unamused: . Pulled in behind me once I was clear :unamused: . I guess these muppets are all the car drivers you see sat in lane 3 doing 60 mph on 4 lanes bits. I went to see family over the M62 last night and climbing up Windy Hill there was a Hermes and a Whistl artic both sat in lane 2 with absolutely nothing in lane 1 :unamused: . Was tempted to stay in lane 1 and undertake them both but felt a bit too risky in my car as clearly neither of them were in the queue when intelligence was being dished out.

I will add, when passing plobski, on the inside, Give large on the Horn pull, coming thro Whooosh.

 You really need a good speed differential for that to have maximum effect. It just doesn’t really work as you tootle past doing a grand 1 mph difference  .

The Irish 90km/h seems to work quite well

If they want to sit in lane 2 or 3 I have no problem using either lane 1,2 3 or 4 to pass them . Again if theres 2 clowns elephant racing in lanes 1 and 2 you’ll find me in lane 3 giving a cheery wave on the way past .
It only becomes a problem when you run out of usable lanes . :smiling_imp:

Guilty as charged for a few years on the M1 for a few miles around Toddington. If you return to lane 1, then in couple of miles you have to come back to lane 2, several times, north and south. Stuff that, because at least half the time there’d be traffic beside me or on my tail and all that malarky. Easier to just cruise on cruise and forget about the ones who choose to get would up over it.

^^That…

It depends on the location, and time of day/traffic density.
Rob already mentioned the M6 S/B junction 10, and likewise the ■■■■■■■■■■■ that is the M42 between J3a and J7.
‘Use Hardshoulder’ ok, no problem.
1 mile later ‘Hardshoulder for junction x only’ ah bugger, tick-tock tick-tock come on, let me over…
After junction x ‘use Hardshoulder’ ok, no problem
1.5 miles later ‘hardshoulder for junction x only’ oh for ■■■■ sake…

Rinse and repeat…

If its quiet, I move into the correct lane. If its busy, I stay in lane 2. Simples.

^^^^^;;;
Agreed, no set rules, different ways for different locations.
It’s the clowns who sit for miles flatly refusing to use lane 1 for whatever reason (sat in their hi viz as Juddian said  ) that need a ■■■■ good kicking.
