From coop newhouse, apparently there was an accident involving someone’s tail swing
good news
Surely they should ban the driver…
Are the drivers towing these being paid more money to compensate for the increased responsibility and vehicle earning capacity? If not, refuse!

We don’t need the extra stress of those bloody things, not unless they are going to pay us for the privilege !!

Whilst I agree in principle… You gotta be joking right?
Is that what happened when we jumped from 32 to 38 tonnes? 38 to 41? 41 to 44 tonnes?
Nobody will refuse Jonathan because there’s a hundred nationalities waiting in the background to jump in your seat and do the job for less.
Its a bad state of affairs but that’s the way I see it.

Whoa. Hold on guys, dont be too hard on him, he’s complaining on here (like that will do any good)…
One can but live in hope.
The issue of driving LHV’s is a totally different one to the issue of driving a compromised zb up of a design,to suit the idiots who make the rules, concerning what’s allowed on the road and what isn’t.Drivers moaning about driving the former fits that description of a diver moaning because the job means getting wet.

Really ■■ So then you would be ok with being paid less for any bobtailing or if you had a 40’ skelly/urban trailer on by that logic
I am sure, if they paid Truckers a decent salary say R45k for a 60 hour week drivers would be quite happy to drive what ever combination was out there, providing it was legal and safe. just a thought of course and my opinion only.

I’d prefer to get paid 25k-30k to drive a 6 wheeler coupled to a 40-45 ft trailer than 45k to drive an artic that’s got screwed up overhang measurements just to suit the British government’s idiotic ideas on truck design.
But there’d be more chance of getting the 45k if the government removed road fuel duty.

Ah so basically you’d sacrifice £15,000 to £20,000 just to massage your ego and drive a big lorry?

How do you work that out? While there are too many drivers to sit on too few seats, wages will remain low.
IF the situation turns and there are too few drivers and too many seats you MAY see wages improve. Until then, get used to it cos it wont get much better in the short term .

Think you’ve missed my point.Firstly as I said truck drivers moaning about driving a ‘big lorry’ are like divers moaning about getting wet. However I’d rather earn less to not have the hassle of wondering what that too long overhang put on a trailer is going to catch next when I can’t see it and have even more length (and weight) carrying capacity put on a rigid instead where I can see what it’s doing and the guvnor gets the benefit of not only more cube capacity but more weight capacity too.So it’s a win win situation although I wouldn’t expect you to understand it.

Just simple maths says that if the money is given back to the guvnor instead of going into the government’s pockets then some of that money ‘could’ be spent in providing better wages and no industry ever progressed or grew by not increasing efficiency as and when it was possible to do so.It’s just that in this case,as usual with the Brit ideas, they’ve chosen the worst possible way in which to (try to) increase efficiency.
