Rigsby, If you’re looking for a way to cut down on the expense, I’ve got a very rusty four foot length of RSJ around the back of the shed.
Where do you plan to do the operation Casey ?Down at Rothdean’s yard !
Cheers Dave.
Hadn’t thought of that, Dave. I’m sure they’ve got plenty of G-clamps down there.
John Jones would lend you all the gear Casey,as you were a Forest man.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Bloody Hell, who needs the NHS.

Nice one Kindle30.
Cheers Dave.
I’m getting my moneys worth out of the NHS before it goes ■■■■ up. I had my knee done (100% success), I had my left eye cataract done (100% success) and now I’ve got a letter for the other eye doing (7:30 April 13th). Bring it on. The jobs have been done in private hospitals totally funded by the NHS and I am well pleased with the service I’m getting. There is much criticism these days about the NHS but I’m a very satisfied customer.
And i do as I’m told with the prescribed drugs, are you watching Mr H Gill?, I hope you are sticking to your promise to give the malt the week off.

you sound like the bionic man brian , long may you reign . just as well to keep the eyes up to par , i reckon the next move from dvl a will be to revoke the car license of anyone with one eye like they did with the hgv license . i have the start of a cateract , but the opticion says it will be around 10 years before it is bad enough to need surgery . i’ll be over 80 by then so i’ll just squint through the other eye . cheers , dave
hehehe, before the HGV’ licences, the breathalyser and all the rest of it we had an old guy working with us (he was subbed in from Hargreaves at Rothwell but he was more or less permanent with us). Basil, he drove the oldest Scammell artic you’ve ever come across, Scammell through and through from the rad. cap to the tail light, gate change etc. Well Basil only had one eye, he had a home made PAINTED cover over the missing eye socket,AND he had a balance problem which meant he always walked about looking VERY drunk. He NEVER drank and he used to get stopped regularly, he carried a card explaining his condition. He was a tanker man of the very best sort, a great guy and a privilege to work with. Basil died many years ago.
Get the headlamps checked once a year and IF YOU find you’re struggling ask the optician if he/she will refer you for the job doing. I did, went to see the surgeon and 4 weeks later…job done on one eye (they won’t do them both together) It’s a nowt job, 20 minutes, no pain, no discomfort, and the improvement is spectacular. I can sit and watch TV now without glasses and I’ve only had one done. Colours are so much brighter.
I’ve just GOT to stick my oar in here. My father noticed that his eyesight was starting to deteriorate faster than it previously had. At his annual optician’s check-up he was told that he had the common Age-Related Macular Degeneration (posh name for “eyes getting old & clapped out”). The optician advised him that he should be referred to a specialist for a simple laser operation which would not only halt the degeneration but would probably restore his sight to what it had been years previously.
Whether it was the fear of the procedure or for some other reason, he thought that he would be able to manage with the reduced eyesight for the remainder of his days (he was in his mid-seventies at the time) so refused. The upshot was that he managed to live until he was ninety-three, by which time he had spent ten years almost totally blind.
The moral of the story is that we should all take care of our eyes. I am fastidious about my annual checks, as most potentially disastrous problems can be successfully treated if caught early enough. If you have any concerns whatsoever about your health, especially for those of us who are advancing in years, it’s essential to get it fixed ASAP.
I apologise for rambling on, but we only get one body (except for those who insist on having odd bits of it replaced!!!) so it’s worth looking after.
Sorry for hijacking your thread, H, but it’s a subject I feel strongly about.
what do you mean bits changed ? when i go to bed my teeth , glasses and hearing aids are on the bedside table , i don’t plan to swap any more bits just yet . i do have to have some titanium rods screwed to the decayed bones in my spine , but i think that is a plus really , should be fun if i go through the metal detectors at the airport though , cheers , dave

hiya,
Last of the antibiotics tomorrow after a little bit of surgery in the morning just
hoping he doesn’t give me another pile to take, I’ll have forgotten what the wee
dram looks like let alone tastes like, these medical chaps are heartless.
thanks harry, long retired.
You’ve been a very good boy Mr.Gill, don’t fall at the last hurdle, stick with it and all will be well. When they give you the green light you will be raring to give a bottle of your favourite a good seeing to.
