More good news, the letter has arrived telling us of our annual state pension increase…3.4% :stuck_out_tongue:
It’s not a lot when you apply it to the state pension but it’s a hell of a sight better than many millions of folk who are still working, many of them haven’t had any increase for 2/3 years, so…3.4% is OK in my book.

I can see you buying your other half that new TV Brian. If you hang onto all that money, you won’t know what do with it.
Cheers Dave.

Safer for him to buy the wife tele Dave. It could save him a speeding ticket and points or worse.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Dave, Brian’s very lucky if he can get his good lady behind the wheel, my
“significant other” drives one morning a week to the hairdresser’s about a
mile each way all the fancy stuff ie’ into town or long distance it’s up to
me, I’m trying to talk her into getting rid of the car and using the public
transport system but no joy at the moment on that one, all I get is the
car is handy, and me telling her the bus is free doesn’t cut any ice but
I’m getting fed up of driving I’ve had a licence since age 16 (motorbike)
then passed my car test age 17 so I’ve done my bit, the HGVs long gone
and I now do my licence online so have I surrendered the 7.5 bit of my
licence to enable me to do that, if I keep whittling away I’ll have got rid
of the damned thing altogether.
thanks harry, long retired.

What about your caravan Harry.I understood that you had a caravan for short breaks, holidays etc. I suppose by not having a car, you could afford a hotel or a B & B with what you saved on running a vehicle.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Still got the little tourer Dave, but like me it too is getting a bit long in
the tooth we only go to York now, we do like York but on arrival we do
get set up quickly and the car just stands there for the time we are on
site and we go everywhere by public transport, no problems that way a
quick drink or two with no breathalyser to worry about and not having
to find a parking place and pay for it, we are not caravanner’s in a true
sense no fancy awnings to set up deckchairs to sit on all day long boring
we’re up breakfast and gone and return in time for bed, bit like a room
in a hotel really, and some of the sites (I stay on a five star one) can be
as much per day as a hotel room and when in the hotel no beds to make
and washing up to do and toilet emptying is another chore a couple of
times for the duration of your on-site stay, I’m really a lazy old sod at
heart, jump on the train or bus get there and do your thing that’s me.

A bit quick■■? :open_mouth: Put it this way, she scares the hell out of me. Only rarely do I let the daft old bat drive when I’m in the car. How the hell she still got a clean licence is beyond me. :frowning:

We are a bit like that Harry. We go self catering, but only use the place as a base. Can’t see the point in going on holiday to stay in the one
place. We like to have breakfast and then spend the day looking around or by the sea.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Yes Dave I did for a time have a static caravan at a place called Glasson Dock
near Lancaster but it was starting to cost a fortune just to stand empty for a
large part of the season we only managed a couple of breaks each year so it
just wasn’t getting used I thought the family would use it when we wasn’t in
“residence” but it just finished up where it became a nuisance just going to it
and everywhere you wanted to go it was the car a very limited bus service is
in operation in that area, so in the end it cost me plenty and I lost plenty not
being able to sell it privately I finished up in the end having to pay a selling
fee so I finished getting nothing out of the sale apart from another bill for
their administration fees, robbing barstewards.

We just rent a couple of different self catering places each year. All we have to worry about is the weather being reasonable, not that I worry to much about that, as we always find somewhere to kill the time.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Just been given permission to have a weekend away by our daughter just
so long as it doesn’t interfere with our child minding duties too much, It’s
looking like a dash away on a Friday so long as we’re back PM on Monday
the other grandparents will do the school run and the feeding for those
couple of day’s, so I’m shortly going to get the coach trip brochure out to
see what’s on offer will it be Scotland or Blackpool decisions decisions my
head will start to hurt shortly but rest assured break away it will be, and
it’s just a case of seeing if the daughter will finance it, well pigs might fly
although we do 99.9 of the annual school running and feeding for free our
shopping bill could be halved if it wasn’t for the two extra mouths to feed.
thanks harry, long retired.

no contest harry , throw the blackpool brochure in the bin and study whats on offer on the scotland tours . what about the distillery tour , free tastings at every stop ,nice hotels ( with good whiskeys ) . i reckon a 10 day tour would set you up nicely until xmas . and don’t forget the discounted sales in the distillery shops . you won’t get that in blackpool , cheers , dave

I agree Dave, it would be Scotland for me, much more interesting than Blackpool. Also if Harry would take a camera, we could look at his pics.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Scotland it is then although her who must be obeyed will make the final
decision and at this time it can only be Friday until Monday but we do a
few during the course of the year so this shorty might still be at the sea-
side. I’ll let the good lady decide then if it’s rubbish I can blame her and
tell her I’ll choose next time funnily enough we both enjoy Blackpool it is
always busy and has something going on and maybe a better bet during
the Winter months, when working as a driver my choice of trip when the
choice was mine was always to head “oe’r the border” a beautiful part of
the UK, The prospect of a bit of whisky tasting and to buy a dram or two
at reasonable cost is very tempting, now should I put my foot down and
demand we head North, no I’ll let her decide can’t be bothered to argue.
PS as for the camera I have several but don’t know how they work I used
to be OK when the film was taken to the chemist and you collected the
finished product but these new fangled things can stay “in the box” under
the stairs just got zero interest there’s all sorts under there including a
video camera or two which have never been used and no doubt obsolete.
thanks harry, long retired.

I bought Tracy a camcorder for Christmas a few years ago Harry. She hasn’t used the thing which is strange, as she is excellent with our other camera’s, always taking photo’s of the dog and lorries etc. I fancy a trip to Scotland, but it will have to be another year,as we have booked our breaks and paid deposits etc for this year.
Cheers Dave.

Defo head north of the border but then I have never been to Blackpool been close to but never to

But then I am planning a trip to Lindersfarne soon

lucky ang, another beautiful part of the country , we stayed with friends in bellingham years ago and did a lot of touring from there . the north east has a lot of lovely places to see . it’s not all tipsy ex lorry drivers and empty whiskey bottles .
