we have to be very careful how we issue the staff orders brian , a little polite persuasion could be the difference between drinking it and wearing it .

Yes Riggers I think “ordering” is a little o’er the top when “requesting” may be more
fruitful on some occasions, as you say a requested drink may be served, an ordered
one could possibly be “worn” and in our house over the head still in the bottle.
thanks harry, long retired.

 Yer see, yer see, you’re not hard enough for the job of handling staff.

My daughter WAS a Civil Servant.

oops, put foot in it again  .

hiya,
■■■■ cocked up. erm er some civil servants are lovely, now where’s that delete button.

Um the lovely one’s are usually having affairs, which I’m all for, if they are female.
Cheers Dave.

Not to worry fellas, it just touched a nerve. Sorry, move on.
Also, brother was a civil servant, senior man at VOSA :open_mouth: the bar steward once told me the spacing on my car number plate was illegal. I responded in true lorry driver fashion…“p*ss off”

THIS THREAD IS TEMPORARILY (HOPEFULLY :unamused: ) “OFF THE AIR” THIS EVENING AS THE “MAIN MAN” IS BUSY SMOOZING (WINEING AND DINEING) HIS BETTER HALF IN THE FORLORN HOPE OF RETRIEVING SOME BROWNIES :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:       Anon1.

C’mon Harry, grumpy old man is in bed now, its safe to come out  . Get your sun hat ready, it might stop raining next week.
Cheers Dave.

Had some more drama with the missus, last night she lost the use of her right leg and collapsed while getting off of the starlift! I called the Paramedics who came and lifted her onto the bed, checked her over as usual and I then undressed her and put her to bed. This morning I left her in bed while I went shopping, she has a catheter fitted so doesn’t need to visit the toilet etc so I knew she would be OK. When I got back home I got her up and dressed, then her leg gave way again! I got her Brother round to assist me to get onto the bed again when he noticed that her right leg didn’t look straight. Called the Paramedics again, the nearest Ambulance was 20 miles away in Mansfield and had a slipping clutch but it made it eventually, the upshot is that her ankle is fractured so she has been admitted into Hospital again! They have manipulated it back into place, gave her plenty of gas and air, and plastered her up. Apparently they might send her home tomorrow (great :unamused: ) or they may decide to operate and pin the ankle which will be a longer job of course. Three broken bones in three month’s is not good, still we will battle onward and see what else life can chuck at us this year…always somebody worse off I guess?

Pete.

by heck pete , your lady is certainly in the wars just lately . i think i can speak for us all and wish her well and hope she isn’t stuck in hospital too long this time . you just have to do the best you can for her the same as the rest of us would for our ladies . regards , dave

Hey Pete, Just tell her ladyship to buck up! We don’t need her (or you) to have any more problems.
Best of luck to you both.

Don’t give in Pete, both of you have to keep going. Best wishes to your lady.

i see you have had second thoughts brian and the offer of free beer has been quietly deleted . pete is having it rough though , in the circumstances i think more help and support could be given .

hiya,
An old uncle of mine “warned” me never be too soft with the wives and girlfriends,
treat em ’ rough he said they’ll appreciate you more, I never once took his advice I
hasten to add, our ladies are far to precious and if needs be wrapped in cottonwool
get her back home as quick as you can Pete, it always seems like the lights are out
when my Missus isn’t in the house, I wish you both well, give my regards to you’re
Good Lady and get her home as quick as you can.
thanks harry, long retired.

Another rant…sorry.
I’m sure Pete will be taking advice from those who know about these things (e.g. Age Concern) and claiming for all financial help, home improvements and anything else that HE/THEY ARE ENTITLED TO, but as we all know, it can be a fight and a struggle.
When I see the human dross walking round our towns or spending their days nice and warm and dry in Wetherspoons, it bloody infuriates me that most of them (not all) have no intention, never had any intention, of getting off their arses and TRYING to get a job, “the state will provide”, :imp: it’s wrong that all they have to do is wait for the benefit to to paid when decent once hard working older people who are struggling have to fight for every penny.
Stick with it Pete, there are decent folk on here who will give you any support they can. As said, our ladies are priceless.

Brian, when I finished ‘work’ 11 years ago to care for the missus I would be pushing her around town in her wheelchair and the lads from RMC and Tatmac( ) etc would give us a toot on their horns when they saw us and I felt BLOOMING GUILTY that I wasn’t working. However one day the wife asked if we could go into The Crown PH in Matlock as they had a lunchtime offer on of a pie and a pint for (say) £3 so I agreed. It opened up a whole new world to me, I saw taxis pulling up and folk coming in for a few bevvys etc and then getting a taxi home again and I knew for certain that they had never worked for 30+ years to my knowledge, they were having a better time than me who had grafted for nearly 40 years! Certainly changed the way I thought about life, why should they have all that spare cash and free time, it just galled me and the ‘guilt trip’ vanished there and then so nowadays I take all that is offered to us.

Pete.

Hi Pete,
Sorry to hear of your latest troubles, also the pain and discomfort your wife must be going through. Log all these events down, and then send them via email to your MP. Its wrong that decent hard working people such as you and your wife are being treated this way.
Some of these local service providers need their arse’s kicked. I wonder where this country is going. Hope things soon get better for you both.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
I don’t know if I’ve put this on before but a good friend who had the same operation
as myself for the same cancer related illness albeit at a different hospital was seen
by the McMillan nurses prior to his discharge from hospital and as a result had paper
work filled in for him and as a result finished up with all sorts of additional benefits
which nets him quite a good standard of living, I wasn’t approached by these people
and get only my pension and company pension which I paid into I only hear from the
McMillan people when they’re hunting for funds, I don’t reply, mine isn’t an isolated
case regarding this hospital, the only contact I had with these people was one day I
was in the ward dayroom and one of them walked in and remarked Oh’ I see that the
Chemo has given you the Yul Brynner look I could see that in the mirror without her
reminding me of it.

When I had my accident years ago, the social services were just being formed. At the time, the hospital Almoner sorted things out for patients. The Almoner at the Spinal Injuries unit at Gobowen, a lady called Mrs Roberts was brilliant at her job, she sorted out anything and everything for patients, many of them from all over the Midlands and elsewhere. A lot of the benefits that are around these days hadn’t been heard of then.
I was one of the more fortunate patients, as I had my accident at work, and was on industrial injuries benefit from the word go. I will never forget that lady, she helped everyone, even the less fortunate ones. She got their homes sorted by liaising with their local councils etc. She earned every penny of her salary, which wouldn’t be as high as these gophers of today.
Cheers Dave.

When Dad was diagnosed with cancer hospital were good as were the Macmillan nurses they help with a lot but dad was already receiving a lot for his heart but he also didnt live long enough ( 1 mth from being diagnosed )

We have had a lot of wisdom on this thread lately. Lets have some more wit.
