Got the Good Lady home today so I am going to be busy during the day now, rest period is officially over! The Ambulance crew who brought her home must have been on bonus, they literally left her at the door and I had to struggle to get her in to the living room on my own. The District Nurse we were promised has been cancelled it appears so it is down to little old me to get things sorted.
Pete.
Get onto your MP Pete. To many of these people aren’t doing their job properly. Its bloody wrong to discharge your wife from hospital, and just leave you both to cope. Send an email to your MP.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Pete pleased to hear your better half is home but disgusted at the way you both have been treat make a complaint to the hospital & MP as well as your GP
Well the District Nurse (actually two of them) arrive un-anounced this afternoon which was a surprise. They checked her over and were happy, offered some more help if needed and gave us some phone numbers for out of hours care. When they left Social Services rang to see what they could do, an hour later the Council phoned offering advice and services (not free alas) so things are suddenly happening! So I can put my engine crane and jack back in the garage…for now at least! Still got the Karcher on standby though. Blooming windy at the moment, bin day tomorrow as well so we will be playing Hunt the Wheelie Bin when the truck has gone.

Take and ask for all the help you can get Pete, otherwise you and your wife will be just a statistic. Social Services should have an adviser to guide you through the help available.
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave, will do. Just been filling in various forms to see what else we are entitled to, learned long ago that if you don’t ask then you don’t get unless you arrive from some far away country of course!

Stick to your guns Pete. Don’t let them dictate to you. You have paid tax and National Insurance contributions for years. Get what you and your good lady are entitled too.
Cheers Dave.

Attendance allowance and carers allowance
Cannot get Attendance Allowance, the Wife gets Disability Living Allowance and Incapacity Benefit instead, but I get Carers Allowance. Sent three forms off today so we will see what comes back.

Does your wife get the DLA mobility component Pete, if she doesn’t, she should, also tax exemption on your vehicle ( excise duty ).
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
I have never had a bean out of the system apart from a blue badge which was granted
after major surgery for cancer about seven years ago they allowed it for six years but
last year in June renewal time they rejected my re-application, not that I ever used it
but they said I was able to walk too far un-aided, it wasn’t issued because of my ability
to walk it was issued because it was advisable for me not to carry anything heavy from
or to the car due to a hernia as a result of the surgery which hasn’t gone away and still
causes problems, a pal of mine who has had identical problems as myself gets disability
living allowance as well as a blue badge all done via the McMillan nurses having filled in
the paperwork prior to his departure from hospital, different hospital’s, I only ever hear
from the McMillan set-up when they’re looking for funds, I don’t respond.

Challenge their decision not to renew it Harry, half of these tossers issuing blue badge’s haven’t a clue.
Last September mine was up for renewal, sent all the necessary details in the form social services sent me. Back it came, they needed more information, so I thought sod this, I will go and see them.
Have you got a passport I was asked, no I haven’t I said. Driving licence, yes. " Oh that’s no good, its a paper one. I said pointing to my wheelchair, isn’t this proof ? The lady said sorry I can’t issue one without one of the following documents " Have you got a marriage certificate, a divorce certificate or your birth certificate I was asked.
I said ,never been married or divorced and I was hatched out in the sun. The woman did look a bit startled, but then laughed. To be fair she grabbed a registrar who issued me with a copy of my birth certificate, and my blue badge was issued a couple of weeks later.
What a bloody farce and waste of time, I have had an orange badge and then blue badges from when they began, all issued by the same authority.
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave, she gets all that and the car is tax exempt Dave. We opted out of actually having a Mobility car, the money was of more use to us!
Harry, a relative of mine has a Blue Badge, as does his Wife, and he works full time as a bus mechanic. Strange how it is ‘Policed’ but I guess that’s life?
Just remembered, we also have Exemption from the London Congestion Charge as well, they send us a renewal each year and we get a free pass! Haven’t a clue why, we never go near the blooming place? ROF, Age Concern have sent forms etc, the missus is too young (58) but I come into it.

If you get stuck, I’ve found that AgeUK are a godsend when it comes to sorting forms and allowances.
Sadly they won’t give you an extension pipe for the K’Archer but you may get a hard brush for the good lady.
hiya,
Did speak with one of the “faceless ones” via the telephone after a lot of
excuses on their part I asked them to hold the line a moment I put my
hand over the mouthpiece for a few seconds, removed my hand and told
the lady at the other end, I’ve just had a look in the mirror and now I can
understand you’re decision “I’m white”, and that’s a true fact, do you think
I have just possibly burnt my bridges, I don’t think I’ll try again as I’ve said
I rarely ever used it so it isn’t really missed.

What’s happened to you Harry, have you lost your knack of charming women I thought a man who has been married three times could charm the birds out of the tree’s. Have you got too old and grumpy, that you couldn’t charm the ladies from town hall to give you a blue card. Now get down there, and tell them that you illness will not let you lift anything too heavy, said to the lass, if you preposed to her and got married, she would have to carry you over the threshold, for you too weak and medically unfit to do it! Blue card in the next post.

hiya,
Can’t find any charm when it comes to chatting up “un-civil servants”, no time
for them, I think they all have Gestapo training and have to go through the no
smiling at the public course, I once had a mother in law who was a civil servant
I never saw her smile come to think of it her kids were just like her, right crusty
old bat she was, her husband had my sympathy

Most civil servants and social workers have more troubled lives, than the people they are supposed to be supporting

we have to be very careful how we issue the staff orders brian , a little polite persuasion could be the difference between drinking it and wearing it .

Yes Riggers I think “ordering” is a little o’er the top when “requesting” may be more fruitful on some occasions, as you say a requested drink may be served, an ordered
one could possibly be “worn” and in our house over the head still in the bottle.

Yer see, yer see, you’re not hard enough for the job of handling staff.
