Bad news about your brother Harry, it’s difficult to know what to say in such situations. The only thing I can say is try to stay positive and encourage your brother to do the same. Live for the day.

hiya,
Thanks for that mate, I’ve just heard from the hospital that he’s quite a bit
better today and a bit more cheerful now that they’ve moved him onto the
main ward and he has other patients to talk to, when I visited him at the
weekend he was stuck in a side room on his own with only the odd nurse for
company when they brought his medication, I’m like you I find it hard to be
able to find words to say at such times.

Keep your chin up , Harry.
Dont forget , youve got a lot of friends on here who will be thinking of you all.

Regards , Roy.

hiya,
Thanks for the kind thoughts lads, they’re moving my brother from Burnley
to Preston tomorrow and he should be starting radiotherapy one day next
week I just hope he gets some relief and hopefully a cure from it, a case of
wait a see, having had in my case chemotherapy it isn’t going to be a very
nice Christmas for him.

Hi Harry,
My late Mother had radiotherapy in 1966 and lived another 32 years, and passed away from something unrelated to her illness in the 1960’s.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Thanks for that Fred, now it might be just advisable for you to keep well
over to the left when knocking about Preston for the next few weeks as
I’m not the driver I used to be and I’ll be passing through your place for
the next few weeks while they give my brother his treatment at the
Preston Royal hospital.

Harry I went to Yarmouth to see my brother, he is improving very slowly, his speech is very slurred, his lefthand side was affected last time, this time it’s his right hand side, he has nurses come three times a day, they hoist him into chair, bed, and comode, he is happy he is now moving both feet, he is saying he wants to be on his feet next year. he still has his sense of humour. they thought it was the old tumour regrown, but it was a new one, but not cancerous, but the trouble is everytime they operate they have to cut so near the brain, it causes a stroke, so it’s that that he has to recover from each time, and this is the third operation on his brain, since 2004. I do hope he recovers enough to play bowls again, for it gives him the will to get better so he is independent. He will be 70 in may, so the he will be had ten years of this problem, but he won’t let it get him down.

hiya,
Looks like a worrying time for both of us Norm, tell you what Good Buddy
this getting old isn’t all it’s cracked up to be the bits start falling off, a lot
like some of the motors I’ve abused in the past bits used to fall off them as
well when they got old but that was OK they just “nailed” a new bit on and
that was it, they can’t do that with family members they can only treat
them and try to make them better, my brother is 76 a little bit younger
than me and he has started his radiotherapy treatment this week, hope it
goes well for him.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hiya Harry just getting ready to go to cambridge…Hope everything goes well
.Freddie.

What is worse for me, I just went to funeral on wednesday for my neice Kath her birthday this sunday, she would have been 68years old, her husband died in April, they was teenage lovers, they met at the fair she was 14, he was 16, they married when she was 21, the crematorium was packed standing up in the aisles, must have been 150/200 family about 2% friends. So far I have lost two neices, one nephew, three nephews by marrriage. I am the eldest statesman of the family, they come to me to ask me who is who and what part of the family they come from, when I tell them, they are so pleased and go and hug each other. I am lacking on my fathers side, I have found he had three brothers and four sisters, and two of them married to two brothers of my mothers family, I do not know 90% of their children or their heirs. I think my total family will be well over 300, I know a few are in Australia, my daughter saw one when she went. But old Norman keeps travelling along. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Norman Ingram:
Just hope you have good news, if he has a operation, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

hiya,
Not looking good Norm there’s going to be several weeks of radiotherapy,
they’ve told him even if that works there’s only a chance he’ll last beyond
twelve to eighteen months, his daughter seems to think he’ll have already
forgotten what the doctors have told him, his memory is so short-lived at
the moment maybe it’s a good thing he doesn’t remember too much.
thanks harry, long retired.

Sorry about the news Harry, hope everything turn’s out good for your brother, it’s not always bad news, I had cancer back in 1995, took out all my bowels etc, 6 month’s on chemo after and still here reading this, so give him my regards and wish him well from me. Kind Regards :-Jack.

hiya,
Thanks for that Jack will give his daughter your message she’ll be there
tomorrow, I’ve just returned from Preston hospital where my brother is
having his treatment ( a little run over the old Shap on my way home)
I too have been down the cancer route had my stomach removed about
eight years ago and I too am pretty good, but I don’t think my brothers
brain tumour is operable, all the hospital tell me is “it’s a case of wait
and see” just hope they can do something for him he’s younger than me
76, I just wish I lived a bit closer, him Lancashire me Durham makes my
visits few and far between, expensive too having to use hotels for the
overnight stay, I’ll have to ask the pension people for a sub .
thanks harry, long retired.

My father had an op. for bowel cancer, I was eldest son, I spoke to the surgeon afterwards, “Brian, we’ve done what we can, we’ve cut out what we can, anymore trouble and I’m afraid that will be it” I never told my father but the owd bugga lived for another 24 years and died recently of old age…he was 96.
Surgeons these days can work wonders and that’s why a positive attitude is vital. I know it’s easy to say if your not the one facing the surgery, but being positive is better than doom and gloom.

+1 on that one Brian, a positive attitude is a big plus when you are up against things. Like you said, its easy to say, but from my own experiences with injury and illness, you just got to keep fighting on.
Just hope that Harry’s brother has a bit of luck and wins his battle.
Cheers Dave.
