This thread is just going round in circles so why can’t it be divided up into catorgories i.e. M.E., tippers, flats, vans, heavy, different era’s, tankers, european, and of course a class for the best nationlised firm!(that should make BRS a winner at least!!) and any other class you can think of!! there could also be a class for the best ā€œregimentā€ so ESL would probably sweep the board in that one!! But seriously I think this is the course that should be taken in my worthless opinion! Bewick.

hiya,
Well said Bewick was an army driver for a couple of years that was a bit regimental as well if they could find me, me boilersuit and riggers not forgetting the old WW2 greatcoat certainly no tie would be tempted to garrote (spelling) the management.

As far as my view is concerned, Brit European Transport was by far the best company , i ever worked for as a subbie for 4 years then for Belgium office for 13 years running all over europe and eastern bloc. the nicest set of people you could meet. Second on my list would be Chapman and Ball and the brilliant mr Jack Corrie R.I.P. one of the shrudest men in the buisness, at the time… Terry

3300 John, has already named two of the best British hauliers in his response to the nomination of Browns of Stoke. John mentioned Shirleys Transport and Bassetts. They surely must be two of the most reputable names in British road haulage.

Being of 1961 vintage, and as a nipper travelling with Dad (Monkton Motors MK5 Mandator) tanker firms I remember then were Tommy Allen, Harold Wood, Smith & Robinsons, then When Dad went O/D in 74 Frank Tucker Exeter, Silver Roadways, the when I got my first 7.5 tonners working in southampton doing groupage for Jamesons, all the Continental Boys, Barbours, Beresford, Cawthorn & Sinclair, Roberts Armstrong, RK Crisp & Bakers. But my favourite Harris & Miners Devon - Scotland along long way when youre a boy
