Atkins Of Derby
Not too sure about the T+Cs, but, a cracking fleet / livery, very forward thinking in the early days of containerisation.
Their TILT fleet was an impressive sight on the roads of europe aswell

Curly was a real old style haulier who ran an absolutley immaculate fleet, all flat coilers, plus he tramped all over the UK and could get a load where you thought it was an impossibility although he did concentrate on firebricks from GR Stein from Scotland to the south and Steel from S.Wales but otherwise anything from anywhere to anywhere! Bewick.PS the bloke was a Legend.

First time iāve looked at this post, and canāt believe nobody mentioned Peter Roff, in terms of standard of equipment and how they were kept if nothing else. In general the question is far too subjective to come down to one firm imo
My vote would have to be W. Carter Haulage a brilliant company that had good equipment.and the drivers were treated with respect. i spent 16 years there
And would still be there had they not sold out 2 years ago.The company was sold after 80 years in business.

How old are you then ā ā ?
Have to agree with others that have posted that astran is a strong contender, others i could think of include ralph davies(not many places he hasnt sent a truck to), prestons of potto and r swain of strood-both long established names that are still involved in proper real world haulage and pulleyn of reading who have very high standards of professionalism.
Hollo to all you old lorry drivers ,
I think that Davies Turner is the the best , mind you they are freight forwarders , but they had a lot of owner drivers working for them ,
I started with them about 35 years ago doing middle east , then i shifted to doing greece , and have been doing germany for 10 - 15 years ,
they are still the best ,

By any chance is this the same Mr Hockin that only held on to his O licence by a thread after some serious abuse of the hours laws?
