The eu referendum- how do you intend to vote?

Just awoke to the sad news MP Jo Cox died. Let’s hope it was nothing to do with Brexit.
We all come on here and have a bit of banter and state our case but it’s all in good humour. It shouldn’t be an issue worth spilling blood over, we did that far too much in the past.
RIP Ms Cox.

Indeed, you can see with some of the vitriol on here that this issue does bring out the worst shout down/bullying nature in some, the mods should show some respect and close any thread related to the referendum until the motive is established.

So why can’t we carry on with a sensible debate? The 2 eyewitnesses say this ■■■■■■ idiot shouted “put Britain first” not Britain first, as in the party. This right wing extremist, who incidentally has mental health issues and should have been in secure care, obviously had a problem with her views on immigration. It’s disgusting that the media has jumped on this tragic event to put a spin on remain. This has nothing to do with the eu referendum

In a surprising turn of events I agree with OVLOV JAY on the debate issue.

On the “put Britain first” it’s hard to call as a lot of referendum rhetoric has been centred on immigration. However she was very involved in the Syria situation as well.

So much for EU being good for workers rights. So rather than the idea of British jobs for British workers for Brit wages you’d prefer to give the quotas to Europe instead. :unamused:

Sorry CF but I thought I’d made myself very clear here but I obviously underestimated your ability to see way beyond something I’d written into something I obviously didn’t !

The fishermen are exploiting Filipino workers at the expense of British workers.

None of the words used here contain more than 3 syllables so should be fairly easy even for you to understand and as they’re in one line that leaves no room to read between the lines.

“Filipino” has four syllables.

Fili-pi-no.

Three !

Could be accent dependant like [emoji6]

So which TV medium raised the ghost of Mary Whitehouse this time?

They are obviously ‘exploiting’ foreign workers in an environment of so called EU ‘workers rights’ that equally obviously doesn’t enforce the use of properly paid Brit workers. While you’re then using that problem to justify the EU carving up Brit fishing areas for EU fishing operations.

It’s obviously not me who’s unable to do simple comprehension.

Santa:

More like that’s Cameron’s words being parroted by an ex loyalist.Just like IDS’s austerity ‘measures’.

As opposed to Cameron’s unbelievable turn around regards Turkish membership.

Like Boris’s video calling for Turkish membership of the EU?

OK CF, your first point reiterates what I said.
For your second point I’ll refer you to the post I made to Harry Monk after the post you quoted.

When it’s Islam they are radicalised nutters but even the suspicion that it might be a nutter using Brexit as an excuse that means all Brexiters arguments have to be shut down.

By that logic we shut down every Mosque because of Muhiddin Mire’s actions.

As I said Boris loyally parroting Cameron’s policy.Just like IDS did until he walked away.

Ah right. So he’s not a man of principle then? Are you really that blinkered that you don’t see that he’s doing this for personal ambition - he doesn’t give a toss either way, he just wants to be in no10!

If it’s all about ‘sustainability’ how does adding the EU fishing fleet to the demand for fish help that.No surprise obviously no answer to the ‘workers rights’ issue of Brit jobs for Brit workers. On that note I don’t remember Philipinos being part of the UK fishing industry before we joined the EU.

Leaving was always going to cause “Business uncertainty”.

Don’t the very best opportunities come from the greatest crisis though?

In my mind, the biggest risk we face here - is allowing this once-in a lifetime opportunity to pass us by, and carry on with the same old grey, sombre existence from here to eternity.

Forever paying faceless bureaucrats to do very little for us.
Forever sucking up to stupid rules
Forever racing to the bottom
Forever being told “Your say counts for nothing”.
Forever having a life expectancy and quality of life lower than that of our parents.
Forever being in debt.

200 years ago - we were in another crisis to do with the Napoleonic wars being over once and for all.
The winding-down of our war industries were catastrophic to the Britain of the day, not really ready for the period of “prolonged peace” upon them.
It took nearly three decades for a true recovery to begin, and not even the Iron Duke as Prime Minister over a decade later - could prevent a huge “slow burn” downturn spread over many years taking it’s toll of our economy.

We DID eventually recover though - and entered a golden age. We recovered despite there being more wars, more upsets, and everything but a smooth ride along the way.
“To do nothing in a recession” is to prolong it - I suggest.
“Doing anything” risks downside to be sure - but you don’t get any upside either - unless you stick your neck out.

I don’t want to be living in a Britain in 20 years’ time where prices, wages, assets, debt levels etc. are the same or even worse than they are right now.
Brexit offers us the best chance to break out of this endless cycle of decline that we’ve had in our lifetimes imho.

I see it no different to Powell having been a loyal member of the Conservatives who then rebelled against his Europhile Party line 1975.IE his personal actions spoke louder than his Party words.Feel free to make the case all that translates as let’s throw the interests of the country away and go with Cameron and Corbyn and Sturgeon and Juncker instead. :unamused:

Given the choice between Boris and that bunch of Federalist zb’s I’ll go with Boris thanks.Although as I’ve said I’d prefer a co alition made up of Hoey,David Davis and hopefully Farage if he can get in after getting us out of the EU and bringing Cameron and Osborne down and forcing an election.

Not a problem Geoffrey, you’re welcome to Boris. Don’t forget though, he’s also pro-ttip and privatisation of the NHS.

All that would make sense ‘if’ we were doing better in the EU than we were before we joined it.When the facts are the economy is going down the tubes.Hence austerity, record national debt, massive trade deficits, being held to ransom by net contributions and EU bail outs, and last but not least people like Juncker telling us what to do.

I said “If the UK quota was caught by UK boats using UK labour”

If you are going to deliberately misunderstand me could you at least do it in a humorous way?

You do know that just about every country in Europe has a certain level of privatisation and private contributions based Health Service.IE there’s no such thing as ‘free’ health care especially in the European model.

As for TTIP don’t you think that an anti TTIP Hoey led Eurosceptic Labour Party instead of Corbyn led pro TTIP Europhile one would make a better opposition. As for Boris being pro TTIP we can probably put that under the heading of ex Cameron loyalist.

To put it simply we need a Eurosceptic Labour Party that is an effective opposition prefereably coalition to the Conservatives. We won’t get that unless we co operate with Eurosceptic Conservatives instead of the same old Heath,Thatcher,Major, and Cameron line up.On that note Corbyn and Cameron as allies in a Europhile campaign, just like Callaghan and Jenkins and Thatcher, what a larf.
