Great results. Well done. Pete
Day 1, Woke up 5am after having a few hours kip from finishing work at 10pm had a nice drive up roads mostly quiet saw 4 nolans traveling together and loads of co op wagons which i thought must of been a sign. …lol…
Arrived at flairs yard at 715 so 45 mins to have some shut eye which never happened so john and his son turned up had a chat and straight to it drawbar all ready hooked on so just have to build the air up and away we are with Stuart in the hot seat to take us to old runway and i thought he put in a really good drive no mistakes well that i could see after we got to the runway we started in on the unhitching as there was another school using the cones and box, so we have a run though with john on how to lift the pin and take the air lines off and eveything else i jump up and drive forward and pull along side the drawbar then pull back infront lining ut up stopping about 10 fooot front lol insted of 5/6 ft checked the height and the pin was still up.after lifting it after i had pulled along side i drove it back on to the trailer and heard the clunk of the pin drop and shunted forward and backwards a couple of times then jumpped out checkingbthe pin had dropped and eveything was ok i put the lines back on with some force!! Wound the legs up to the trailer brakes off and i was done i couldnt beleive how simple it was! Next going backwards ater john had shown us which way to turn and what to look out for on the trailer we bith had a go an after we gad done it 3/4times we had both nailed it so off on the road with me in the hot seat…
Having never drove anything with a trailer i was a lil worried but i thought i had done on hit a couple of kerbs but other than that all ok it might of been diffrent in a artic but then again just taking corners wider and diffrent postioning right?! So after we both had some drives round town and stopped for lunch did a couple mock tests and called it a day at 4pm…
Shower, dinner, sleep.
Day 2 test dayoooOoo.
Met john and stuart at the test center my test wasnt till 1pm but nerves had kicked in or the can of monster i had while waiting lol… So i jumpped in next to john and we were away straight in to a mock test stuart drove well would of had a pass my turn drove well even hit a kerb which then put me back to not thinking i would pass and all the other drivers driving like zb fail mark at the end of it, we done a few more which we both had passes… Test time well everything went smoothly could of been alot worse i made a car slow down on a roundabout but he had sped up when i joinned and the examiner said that if i had made him stop it would of been a fail but as i didnt and i drove well overall he was a bit taken back that i havnt drove since pasing ‘c’ last month. But a pass is a pass and im over the moon and its all thanks to john putting up this great offer to change peoples lifes and ian for picking me out of everyone…
If i had never of found this site in the first place i wouldnt be here now so thanks for mking this website and thanks to everyone on here that wished me well and for the great info on eveything i will be a longtime member.
Dan.
So i thought i would post an update of how ive been doing while i wait for a driver to come swap over with me…
So as ive posted im working for ND on the co op contract and its going good ive was taken on as a class 2 driver and ive enjoyed learning gaining exp, getting in some tight unloading areas and small villages which can be fun when meeting vans and lorrys down the back roads.
Today i was given a class one contract and ive had my first solo run down to chandlers ford, had a good drive down and it took me a few shunts to get it inline with the loading bay but i did it by getting out checking and being aware after unloaded i pulled forward to close the taillift and it brakes… So ive been sat here in a 45ft co op lorry for 2hours waiting for scania to fix it annd to.be picked up as im.not going to make it to my next drop. So first solo run in a 45ft trailer and apart from breaking down it.was ok. Looking forward to gaining more exp in the coming months.
All thanks to john and your free course offer.
Dan
That’s great Dan. Take it easy out there and thanks for the update
