The 2 T's ?

Had assessment and got 2 strikes for the clearance when queuing behind vehicles
is there any other kind of terminology used?
cos I have not come across this one before.

Tyres on Tarmac you need to see the vehicle in front tyres on Tarmac

It is something taught in the training.

If the vehicle in front breaks down, could you clear it easily without reversing?

Summat I got taught too. Pretty sure the examiner of the driving test picks up on it aswell.

I always leave room in front of myself to clear the vehicle if needed but never used the 2 T’s just a new term that I haven’t heard before.

Not adhering to ToT is a schoolboy error, you should never stop so close to the vehicle in front that you can’t get round it if it fails to move etc.

Doesn’t ‘Leaving a Gap’ come under the Common Sense’ Category !

Or am I just being ‘Stooopid’ !

Can’t say I’ve ever heard this expression before.

Makes it sounds like the Assessor went on industrial action, and the replacement required you to cross a picket line at Donny!

If had one more I would have failed the assessment :open_mouth:

At least you sorted it out in the end.
Good luck with the new job.

This is a basic thing that a trainer tells you for a car licence. If you cannot see the rear tyres of the car in front on the road, you are unlikely to have enough room to get out should they break down.

With a truck being much higher up the gap should be nearly a full car’s length to see the tyres on tarmac.

Its something you got taught to pass your test.

This kind of terminology wasn’t used when I passed my test back in '87

when I did my c+e the intstructor’s reasoning was if it is a stolen motor in front and they get out and do a runner have you left a big enough gap to manouver out. not sure why he used this as his teaching aid but it did stick in my head :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Got taught that years ago when learning to drive a car never mind a lorry ,thought common knowledge

Well it’s new to me - Two Ts that is, not leaving a gap.

Hiya i remember when i took my car test the instructor said always make sure you can see the rear
number plate of the car infront. now i’m talking a few years back(i must have listened) when cars had
huge bonnets and when it was foggy you could’nt see all the bonnet. maybe its a new take on that.
tyres on tarmac sound about right i’d think.i’ve never heard that speach before. thanks now i know.

Totally agree John, I went 3 times in the late 70s/early 80s, twice camping & once in an apartment, hav’nt been lucky enough since & as you point out-it’s Blooming Expensive.
You sound like the same sort of age as me/51 & I don’t do tents any more but finding accommodation is quite hard as most people book up for the next year whilst they are there the previous year.
Might try to get involved with the marshalling when I retire. One of the drivers where I work Marshalls every year & takes his Fazer over in a transit with 3 other bikes, costs around £400 return for the van & 4 people I believe, which is a lot less than £300 return for one bike & rider.
For now I’m going to have to watch it on ITV & look forward to seeing John McGuiness win a few & Conor ■■■■■■■ win one for the Island.

Ooooops sorry, we’ve hijacked the original post. :unamused:
