tesco snodland

Been offered a start with maritime at tesco snodland (through an agency)
I have been offered a place at snodland doing class 2 work. The ■■■■■■■ the phone didn’t really appear to know what the crack was so have a couple of questions if anyone has done it.

I asked for night work on class 2 and ws told they realy want the rigids to start at 1500 what time does the night pay kick in?

what is the job about I asked if it was just rdc work and was told yes then told that i would be going to stores.

what area do they cover again i was given conflicting answers

Definitely won’t be doing RDC work with a rigid. You will be delivering to small locals and petrol stations. The area you will be delivering to will probably be Kent, Sussex, Surrey, and London. You won’t get night rate starting at 1500.

i assume that starting at 1500 at least some of my shift will be at a night rate. or is there some loop hole that says they can pay day rate for any hours worked regardless of time of day or night if started the shift on day rate

You’ll love doing Victoria. Round and round the block because no one can be bothered to come out of the shop to stop people parking right outside the store.

night rate is 18.00 to 06.00
so you’d get 3 hours at day rate the rest at night rate, very unusual to do pms in a rigid as they normally do am’s to express stores

don’t bother taking the job then, because you WILL be

The agency won’t know what run you will be doing and neither will the RDC desk clerks. I did agency going into Snodland often for around 5 years - but it was 10 years ago. The shops are still there, and more too, but the shops requirements and time slots will be similar. Certainly I do see more rigids around but as robthedog says rigids mainly go out around 6am. Unless things have changed dramatically the early morning and afternoon shift changes were often chaos with 20 or more drivers waiting either for a trailer to be loaded, a unit to come free or the incoming lorry to arrive and be unloaded with what was due to go out. Running late with loading was very common. If Crawley isn’t ready you will be given what is. You were given a route to follow which sometimes seemed a strange way to go, but there is some co-operation between Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose about not all using the same roads. Tenterden went via Ashford and not through Maidstone and IIRC Hastings via Tunbridge Wells, with going through Seddlescombe a disciplinary matter.

are the routes sencible in terms of timeings and are they updated frequently for things like road closures or do you end up having to try and navigate through side streets yourself

You don’t get a choice of which way to go !!
You WILL follow the microlise
You are timed and tracked to the minute by the microlise
They watch you remotely all the time and if your late you will have to explain yourself on de brief when you return from your first run

I work out of another depot and whilst the above is sort of true is sounds worse than it is.

You can go what ever way you want as long as you have a valid reason and you’re not taking the ■■■■. The risk assessments usually give you a couple of ways to go.

You follow Microlise because it has the route on there, if you know another quicker/better way then go that way or if the risk assessment differs, follow the risk assessment.

You are timed and tracked so that the store know what time you will be arriving at but they give you more than enough time to get there usually you have time to have a 20min - 1 hour sleep outside if there is a curfew.

Maybe they do watch you all the time I wouldn’t know as far as explaining goes it’s not an interrogation or anything they ask you why you went a certain way if the route you chose was a lot longer and you say because the road was closed or because microlise wasn’t working so I went the way I knew or because I folllowed the risk assessment thats it, there is no court of enquiry.

There is when you don’t follow DD’s routes for obvious reasons

How do they calculate the time to the store ? Is it done on actual driving time or distance divide by MPH ? At my last job when we got a new store they would take an average of the first five trips to it and that’s what would be used in trip planning.

I worked out of Thurrock tesco and they probably have a rolling average of the time it takes to get in and get tipped. They are very lenient though. I usually just phone them and tell them I am delayed. I have never once been asked why I took so long at a store.

I’ve done that store. It’s one of the better ones to be fair. Certainly a lot ones way worse.
Also I believe the Dagenham depot may cover that store.
Dagenham is the main chilled depot and covers a lot of London although to be fair I have never worked out of Snodland so I am ensure as to how much of London it covers.

i have my assesment on tues so i will find out exactly what is required of me

I’ve got that interview and assessment at 7am tomorrow. Hoping they’re offering on the spot so I can make a choice.

On one hand having got to this stage I’m guessing as long as I don’t drop a clanger (or a trailer on its knees  ) I’m safe for a start at RM.

On the other… Tesco have offered me the shifts that would basically stop any need for childcare after school so I’d save on fees for that.

nice to have the choice mate, both decent outfits and one already tailored to your lifestyle.
