Terrible accident.

How did this happen?

I hope everyone involved was ok.

Police car protecting broken down vehicle gets obliterated either pulling out or hit while parked.

I pray it was the latter and the Police were at the broken down vehicle and not in their car.

Do you have any details, links as I am interested in knowing they are o/k now you posted it up again.

That is exactly why I always move to middle lane if something is happening on h/s, and bollix to all those that get annoyed cos ive made them slow down or move over. Even if they are into the h/s enough for me to pass safely, my trailer is blocking the view of anyone in the lane behind me, so moving out will let them see the problem

So do i, and so do most foreigners. Strange how it isn’t the norm over here.
But we don’t know that the police car was on the hard shoulder, He could have cut in front of the lorry.

That’s better!!!

Always a dangerous place to be is a busy main road. I’ve seen a few vehicles locking up when seeing the cones. Hope all are ok.

This a perfect example of moving over when seeing a recovery vehicle or anyone near or on the hard shoulder.

Anytime I’m working on the H/S I’ll give a little ‘hand up’ wave if someone has the decency to consider my welfare and move over a little.

I have a child and £100,000 life insurance, I’d far rather have the former than the latter.

I was thinking the exact same thing !!

Doesn’t matter who you are or what job you do, No one deserves anything like this, remember everyone is just doing there job and should be respected for it.

This^^^ I’ve ■■■■■■ off so many drivers doing it. Can’t see the problem it’s only a couple of seconds.

It’s nationwide law here now to move over of if the middle lane is blocked slow right down when you see any emergency or flashing lights on the shoulder, even so the number of complate twonks I see who on seeing me move over race up the inside and almost hit whatever vehicle is on the shoulder. I have only heard of a few drivers actually being caught for doing so, mostly because the police are obviously pre-ocupied attending the emergency.
I think it’s a very high fine if caught.

Whereabouts did this happen?

+1

It is terrible, and not uncommon for vehicles on the hard shoulder to be hit (if that’s what happened), so why do some police vehicles still insist on pulling vehicles up on the hard shoulder when continuing further to a place off the main carriageway would be far safer for everyone?

Am I missing something here or did I dream that this thread came from a different perspective a few hours ago, have the trucknet pc police rapped somebody’s knuckles or what since I logged out last, and why has nobody else mentioned it, an elephant and room situation it seems

That isnt a hard shoulder, that is lane 1 of what i assume a 2 lane dual carriageway? Infact it might even be s/c, you cant tell by the pictures. Need more info, spill the beans…

It’s not half a car, it’s just the angle the pic is taken…if anything that proves the effectiveness of the rear crumple zone on a Volvo!

I hope everyone involved was ok.

This happened a few years ago on the A1 near elkesly, no one was in the patrol car and no one was injured.
