Tata Steel.

I agree Goldfinger, doesn’t really matter where the work is going, the problem is that it IS going.
Succesive governments have been encouraging this, depending on the financial services sector to bail us out and relying on the retail and service sectors etc to provide employment for the masses.
We’ve recently seen what happens when the financial service get caught out and now it is well past the time that any government must start making investments and keeping ownership of British companies within Britain…but don’t hold your breath!

Tata Steel staff get all they deserve lazy bone idle unionized health and safety gone mad idiots. If you have ever loaded from Scunny Rotherham Stockbridge Hartlepool Corby you will know what I mean

Whilst I dont relish British industry falling to pieces and wish people out of jobs, you cant help but wonder how the hell a company that employs so many people in H&S, comes up with so many rules that must be adhered to before any work can actually be done, how the heck they’ve lasted as long as they have.
I’ve loaded in steel works in Germany and Switzerland until 2009 when I moved to Canada and there was none of this nonsense there from what I remember. Loading in any British steel works these day seems to require a masters degree in law and bureaucracy and takes up so much valuable time that its a wonder that any transport company can make it pay to drive in to the works gates, only to emerage several hours later in what should takes minutes or an hour at most.

I know P&O Ferrymaster moved a lot of Steel for TATA, this will have a dramatic knock on effect along the line. Sad days.
Bet the jumped up jobsworth security ■■■■■ all keep their jobs.

The person to blame for this, and the demise of the British Haulage industry is Margaret Thatcher.

selsa cardiff will be next.

and everything else that is wrong in the UK.

Ask the container lads how many loads of scrap metal they are loading for China these days. A good indicator of their economy.

Place I used to work was next to a scrap yard he had container motors in and out all day loading scrap.
Loads of British rubbish is been exported now for power stations in holland and belguim.
I know it’s a drop in the ocean but shouldn’t we be building these power stations rather than keep relying on coal gas etc which is only going to get more expensive.

Goldfinger:
From all the stories I was told when they reopened Redcar, it was only temporary (long-ish term - but still TEMORARY).

Everyone was kidding themselves that it was opening again ‘forever’. The media bigged it up so much it was ■■■■■■■ me off, no one could see the ‘bigger picture’. :imp:

No offence but, how many people out there went and got a mortgage, finance etc, thinking they’re set for life now?

I’m not a betting man, but this time I bet Redcar WILL follow in closure.

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone, but heavy industry in this country is finished. I’d say due to fuel, taxes, and the 'environ-‘mentalists’.

As someone’s just said on here, you get yourself to India, do they give a **** about the environment? NO, they just want to feed themselves, and get on in life.

Ranting again…

what has any of that got to do with with Tata? Redcar is a blast furnace thats owned by SSI not Tata and sends 100% of its product direct to its site in Thailand

the place at enfield was a punture waiting to happen, unless you refused to move till they cleared the crap from the floor and the weight bridge wasnt the best to get on at times,

as for port talbot, they should have got rid of the jobs years ago, some of them just spend time thinking of new logos and banners to put up in the main entrance to the place,

Coal fired power stations burn coal not coal gas.Coal gas was used for domestic gas supplies before the North Sea Gas replaced it.
The problem is that we don’t have coal gas anymore since they closed the mines and converted the whole supply system over to natural gas from the North Sea which they’ve now used up and flogged off so we’re now a net importer of coal and domestic gas.Whereas before we were self sufficient in both but that didn’t suit Thatcher because she preferred the idea paying foreign suppliers than to pay our own people to provide for ourselves.Thereby adding to the balance of payments deficit and national debt.

Yeah I know they screwed us over that and I know burning our rubbish solar panels and the council running there trucks on used chip oil isn’t going to change the world. Surely a few incinerators wouldn’t hurt. Stops landfill and creates some energy.

Not a chance, the tree-huggers would sooner import Scandinavian windmills and Chinese solar panels. It’s all about the environment, you see.

(Nothing of course to do with the honking great subsidies that the developers of said white elephants are pocketing)

Them windmills are mad need about 20 going full bore all day to boil a kettle lol

not quite true.
we have loads of gas rigs of the coast of blackpool, we also have four onshore rigs, and hundreds of others throughout the uk.
you are right about them flogging it abroad though.

The problem with incinerators is that instead of putting the things in places where they won’t make any difference like Teeside etc the zb’s want to put them on every one’s doorstep and in the countryside like here etc because they don’t want to pay to haul the stuff over some distance.

But just like the rest it won’t make a dent in the amount of energy we need and as always it’s coal that ‘would (should) have been’ king.If it hadn’t have been for Thatcher of course.

So, basically this country’s buggered BIG TIME!

They’ve announced on the radio today, the recession’s going to take some reovering from (2018 I think they said), and then they still need to find £11 BILLION :open_mouth: And to do that, they’re thinking of raising taxes - or ‘inventing new ones’! :imp:

It’s going to be a slow and painful death of this country, but by the time the government notices, it’ll be too late.

The fact remains we’re now a net importer of energy which includes gas and coal whereas we were self sufficient in coal and coal derived domestic gas. That was until the idiots made us dependent on imported natural gas instead of domestically produced coal and coal gas. That trade deficit is being paid for using printed and borrowed foreign money which has to be paid back with interest but we aren’t producing anything to pay for it all.

Thatcher seems to have been an economic ■■■■■■ who had the intelligence of the average 10 year old.Or maybe she was actually working for the foreign competition to put Britain out of the frame. :bulb:
