It’s getting worse with more and more doing it when they come a cropper in a traffic jam. Even Central Motorway Police Group tweeted about it yesterday warning drivers not to do it. If you get stuck in a traffic jam then continue to the next available SAFE place (which will not be the hard shoulder) and do a printout with UNFORSEEN EVENT as your heading to stating the reason you have gone over your time. Even if you go 2 hours over your time, just park up when you can. It may not even be the very next service station as it may be full with drivers in a similar position, or even the next one after that, it will be the next ‘AVAILABLE & SAFE’ place. So many people looking so stupid sitting on and clogging up the hard shoulder, even more so if the traffic starts flowing again and there are 15 or 20 so called professional drivers on the hard shoulder as they are half way through their break.
What are you trying to say Kerbdog, you’d like to use the hard shoulder for a break but perhaps lack the cojones.

Taking a break on the hard shoulde is nothing to do with large cojones, more about a small brain.
have to agree with kerbdog I got caught in operation stack late last year when they halted traffic on the M20,i had 15 min left and thought great 5 min and I will be at Maidstone services, then we all came to a dead stop while they took off everybody at J8,took me nearly half an hour to get to the services,result,1 infringement, could have used the hard shoulder but chose not to,all I did was get a printout and wrote on it with an explanation, which was excepted
The reason our Euro buddies tend to use the hard shoulder is the effort required to explain to some Euro enforcer what has happened, they are not
interested in excuses and if you don’t speak the language $$$$kerching.

Why would you need ‘the cojones’ to be stupid ?

And there is also the fact that some uk operators see infringements as a good excuse to discepline drivers, to many of them and you can find your self unemployed!
There are plenty drivers out there who think that out of driving time trumps everything so even if approached by cops and told to move would sit tight, refuse to move and say “on break mate”!

that is because " INFRINGEMENTS! " Are nothing!
issued by little ADOLFS who nothing about transport/ EU driving regulations!
boils my urine too seeing " PROFESSIONAL SCREWDRIVERS!
" sat like Richard heads on the hard shoulder, but better in the knowledge once plod in jam butty moves them on! AND IT’s NOT ALL FOREIGNERS!
Once upon a time, they brought out DIGI TACHOs
to make it EASIER!
as it’s there right in front of you " REMINDER 4.25 hrs/ quarter hour drive, ! "
HOW HARD IS IT?
this is so true of screwdrivers approaching the M25 from the NORTH!
" I’m on 3hours drive, I’ll EASILY MAKE THE SERVICES, as it’s just round the corner! "
bang M25 on stop, and Q screwdriver filling his pants with excrement as he goes over by 2.5 hours driving as " THERE’s NOWHERE TO PARK/ don’t know where to park in reality!
" thick screwdrivers need big fines to hurt them in the pocket!
YOU CAN HAVE A BREAK FOR FORTY FIVE MINS AT 3.5 hours drive you thick screw drivers! bad planning ENDEX!
THE 7 P’s screwdrivers! Remember these 7 P’s
PRIOR, PLANNING & PREPARATION, PREVENTS, ■■■■, POOR, PERFORMANCE!

Be on a lot longer break if a fully freighted Flip Flop, watching ■■■■ in his laptop runs up his arse !
Why no just leave the policing to the police, if they get their fat arses off Twitter and onto the road to fine and move drivers along it wouldn’t be a problem.

We do, 7 got shifted from hard shoulder south of Knutsford following the Red Bull job this week. The Twitter/Facebook etc is done by corporate comms/control room/press office types.

Please don’t take this the wrong way but you really need to get out more, If you see a truck on the hard shoulder taking a break just carry on past it and move on, don’t take it so personally

One could say that they are causing a hazard as they are blocking any potential emergency vehicle from getting through. Before they removed the toll booths at Dartford it was a common site in rush hour to see trucks lined up on the hardshoulder.

but if the vehicle had broken down the hazard is the traffic stopping next to the vehicle they should ensure that there is a route past the haz on the HS
Merc 0447, it is down to Government cutbacks on road policing with less patrols to save money.
It is in the pipeline that they will only respond to emergencies.Your comment on them getting off their backsides was not warranted as it is not their fault.
Road users know there are less police, which explains bad driving and risk taking from all drivers.
Fines abroad for tacho offences can be up to 20,000 euros or more, depending if the copper got his leg over the night before.
Hence why they park on hard shoulders.
Yep, got to be the foreign drivers…
Got stuck on M6 south yesterday for the tanker on Thelwall, 4 drivers on the HS, 1 Italian and 3 English trucks. All really helped the recovery truck trying to get to the crash.
As other have said, nothing to do with billy big ball, more to do with common sense and ability.
If you think that stopping on the hard shoulder is about big balls then you’re a muppet who needs to retire ASAP and stop being an embarrassment to the industry…
