Take part in a Transport for London driver survey

Steer Davies Gleave are currently carrying out a piece of research for Transport for London (TfL). The research is looking at how different people use the roads in London. Its results will help inform TfL’s planning for roads in London.

For this research we are carrying out surveys of different road users including lorry drivers, cyclists, car, bus and van drivers. A key group whose views we want are London lorry and van drivers. So if you drive in London we’d really appreciate you taking part in the survey.

The survey itself can be found on the link below. It should take you no longer than 20 minutes to complete. It will include some video-based questions in which drivers are asked what they would do in different situations.

All responses will be anonymous and confidential and there will be no further unsolicited contact as a direct result of your participation in this research. Answers will be incorporated into those from many other respondents.

started the survey, got to the first video, which won’t load up…bah.

worked ok for me :open_mouth:

Worked ok for me aswell

But thats 15 mins of my life I won’t get back again giving the same answers over and over again :unamused: :unamused:

If you don’t tick Greater London at question 4 or 5 that’s the end of the survey.

I took the survey- Twice- once as a HGV driver and once as a cyclist- my PERSONAL opinion, the whole survey is skewed to showing the total responsibility for cyclist safety is on other road users and not the cyclist themselves.- my PERSONAL view is that this is a exercise in reinforcing the current view - that cyclists can do no wrong and any incidents are totally the fault of those not on a bike

But thats 15 mins of my life I won’t get back again giving the same answers over and over again

my answers varied as did the junction layouts.
In some it would be safe to overtake a cyclist in others it wouldn’t. IMO

Rikki, maybe its because Boris himself commutes around london on a bike, and there are a lot of plans in mind to make london a cyclist haven, trying to copy Holland i suppose I am not going to comment on cyclist because i am anti, and i dont want to swear

I quite like the idea of more Londoners using cycles. I don’t have to go to London, thankfully. With a bit of luck, the loony cyclists will stay in London, away from me. Not many London cyclists can manage a 260 mile round trip to get up here, which can only be a good thing. We have more than enough of our own self righteous suicide jockeys with a lycra fetish.

Does anyone else laugh when they see a cyclist pootling along dressed in all the wannabe gear like they were in one of the teams in the TdF?

I have a bike, but it hasn’t been used in 5 years, so I’m doing my bit to reduce cycling in this area.

Nail on the head, if you get hit on a bike or motorbike it’s 99% likely it’s your own fault for allowing yourself to be hit as the great Lawrence Fishbourne was quoted as saying on the Jonathan Ross show.

Now I appreciate cyclists can’t be savant physicists in mechanical motion BUT it’s up to them to learn if they intend to cycle on the roads that everyone else has to pass a test for & is being watched left, right & centre by the man who has an exceptionally large stick.

I like cycling but I am lazy.

I’m all for this, they should ban lorries from central London & push cycle only
lanes big time. Then everyone will be less obese.

Education for cyclists is the key, stay away from the dangerous lorries, as the driver may kill you, simples. If I’m on a bike I don’t go anywhere near wagons.

I’ve just bought loads of them education stickers from the RHA web shop (a pleasure to use unlike trying to buy stuff off the sorts at Spanset). I’m going to plaster them down the side of the trailers.

I got cancelled after the first question about which animal do you see, dont see what relevance it has to driving lorries in London so I put elephant, stupid survey

Oh do come on! What did you expect? this IS TfL we are talking about. Have they ever conducted a survey or a consultation without loading it so that they get the answers they and their favoured lobbyists want?

And what REALLY gets up my nose is being asked my ‘ethnicity’ …totally irrelevant.

I have just tried to take this survey. Although unless you live in the Capital then these questions are next to useless!

I have been with work residing in London the last couple of weeks, and had my first use of Boris Bikes.
I think they are a great way for folks to get around the tourist attractions, as each bike park has a large map highlighting points of interest.
Myself and a few workmates found ridding Boris bikes were quicker than the tube.

I introduced my co-workers to the freely availability of them. My co-workers may I add are class-1 drivers.
They loved the freedom of travelling around London for only £2.00
But they wouldn’t stop at road junctions or traffic lights :unamused: I did though.
I also brought their actions up at DCPC workshop we held in house today.

I would thought Class1 drivers would know better, but clearly not :open_mouth:

Edit
A slide came up on the power point and showed a image of a horse rider and a photo of a cyclist.
After all the typical bike bashing comments etc off everybody, I stood up and educated everybody in the room including the CPC trainer that the horse rider and the cyclist are the only road users who have a right to use the road, and everybody else here has a licensed privileged use the road which can be revoked at any time.
I then turned to the two class 1 drivers who had been bike bashing along with everyone else and asked them. “Whilst you were in a London with me on the Boris Bikes why did you not stop at red lights?”
The answer I got was “sod slowing down once you’ve got momentum” this is off class 1 drivers who were only minutes earlier were eagerly ready to slate horse riders and cyclists.

I’m perhaps shooting from the hip but I doubt they’re asking who’d appreciate the law and Highway Code (‘…Code…’ FFS - what’s that about?) being applied where it undoubtedly exists :unamused:

I’ll take the hit if I’m wrong though…

Hmmm, a ‘diversity’ love-in whilst soft-target HGV saps have to ‘conform’ with the EU’s undemocratic & unfocussed DCPC diktat as cyclists, motor-cyclists & pedestrians (of which I am one) do as they please - wearing headphones, etc :open_mouth:

All freight should be dropped off on the outskirts of the M25 and Londoners should have to cycle from where they live to pick up their stuff. That will tackle obesity, congestion and cyclist deaths in one go.

I showed your comments to the police when they arrested me for riding my horse on the M1 at Crick this morning, I explained that you had educated me in my rights as a horse riding road user, I now hope you will come and educate the Northamptonshire Constabulary and get the charges dropped.

Nope! you will find that horses are not allowed on a motorway :unamused:
They are called motorways for a reason :unamused:
Horses are however allowed to travel along a motorway in a horse box :unamused:
