Anybody still filling a disc in
I did for a week last month
Funnily enough in a mint condition XF, looked like new inside
We still have quite a few old wax machines in service, phasing them out rapidly though.
I did see however a new(ish) daf, with a key in the dash the other day…

Won’t have been a new(ish) with a key in the dash for a tacho…
Anything from September 2006 (56 reg) had to be fitted with a Digi from new

Not so Seth. The last one I drove with paper charts was on a 56 plate and had the key type tacho. The cassette type you refer to were also in service at that time. They didn’t however supersede the hinge type tacho, merely they offered an alternative.
Edit to add; it was probably a 55 plate now that I think about it. Probably getting mixed up with ad blue etc.
That’s what got my attention. Key in the dash. Was at a set of lights at the side of me.
Very clean, well looked after and maybe that’s what threw me, not seen a key in the dash for time…

Nope, I edited my post coz I got the year wrong, totally wrong and I realized that, but a key in the dash of a very clean looking cab I did see, and it wasn’t a silly old one either.
The last one of those I drove was (I think) an old S reg one and this one caught my eye as I knew it should have been at least a pop out.
I rarely use one if I have to Jump in our old puddle jumper for an hour love digis or hate em I find it so much easier keeping track on time and what you’ve been upto.
Surely the question is how many 55 plate and older trucks do you see on the roads these days? and the answer to which is, outside the M25, bloody loads.
Wonder if there’s even a scaff wagon in the country yet with a digital tacho.
Think my place has phased them all out now but I did get annoyed if I ever got given some old relic & had to fill one out. Hate carrying round bits of paper, even annoys me if I have to do a printout now. Having everything stored on a card in your wallet is infinitely better, certainly for me as I stopped taking a bag to work over a year ago.
Im agency and use charts just as much as my card.
My vehicle is the only one in the company with a digi, the rest are analogue. And they have keys in the dash, except one which has the tray load type.
I still use a disc, on 53 scania rigid currently sat with me in scania Haydock with a burst air bag, flippin loud when they pop
You won`t catch me using one of those fancy tachograph things, wants wrong will me log book ? Now leave me alone and let me find me starting handle.
V Plate Volvo - use one every day.
Had to do one last time week, first time in ages. It screwed itself up as well, took it out at the end of the day and it had got stuck after a few miles so showed nothing except the centre with breaks, other work etc. I’m sure some companies would find that a bonus though.

actually, they phased out the key in the dash type in 2003
the DAF 95XF, pre facelift model was the last DAF to have the key to open the hinged tacho head
when it changed to the XF95 facelift model, it was the CD drawer type tacho head
