T Brady & Son

Leyland 680:
Dead right there Dennis found an old truck & driver Fleet Focus about Brady’s

1996 rate of pay £ 4 an hour

Hang on there Frank, but it was “Bradys” £4 an hour plus---- a big dollop of Bull ----,so that must have been worth a few bob extra as well   Dennis.

WHERE’S FRANK ? A shot of one of two Badgers BEO 852C and BEO 923C both new into service 1/12/65 but 923C was disposed of in less than three years on 25/7/68 so it could have come to a sticky end ? Whereas 852C didn’t leave the fleet until 31/1/72.Any info Frank / cheers Dennis.

According to the fleet reg info I’ve seen this particular unit had a short life on the Brady fleet from September '65 to December '66 I don’t know the reason, maybe an accident, Leyland 680 would probably re-call why.

Visiting our yard in the Scottish borders, I’m not sure if he’s delivering or collecting, but he was a regular…

Jeff…

I was hoping to find a photo of my old Beaver, LEO 481, but no luck, I started with Brady’s at Felixstowe in 1968 with Jack Mully as manager, some of the drivers were, Mick Jones, Buch Dowsett, Jock Arnott, Tony Bailey sadly most have booked digs upstairs, good mates all, I left after about two years but returned in the late 70’s to do the night trunk to West Brom, six nights a week, young Bob was manager at the time, good old davs, and so many stories.

Hi Joe
I started as a trailer mate in 1964 at T Brady’s only went to Felixstowe a few times new Jack Mally very well as you now he later came back to Barrow also new Jock Arnott did you mean Tony Bates who moved to Bridewater and became Brady,s shunter at BCL Bridgewater Any way haven’t got a photo of LEO 481 but here is one of LEO 555 put on road same time as your beaver a little memory of Felixstowe for you with the UNIT LOADS tilt type containor on I to became a night trunker in 1972 trunking to Westbrom till they sold the depot Brady,s made every one redundent in 1998 PS did Brady have a couple of Beaver,s signrote
UNIT LOAD at Felixstowe Sorry Joe will have to send photo separate

Thanks to Bewick and Leyland 680.
I well remember one event when there was no trunk one Friday night, young Bob gave me a lift to Barrow in his Jensen Interceptor to pick up a spare unit and three Bowden trailers, not much frightens me, but Bob did, 140mph, plus, all the way, I had to have a small drink in the Rifleman just to get my nerve back, there was a lady in Barrow who did digs for Brady’s lads, no matter what time we had to start she insisted we had a breakfast.

Hi Dennis
It was on tanker work out of I C I Thornton with driver from that are.It ran out of brakes some where in Lancashire may be Burnley It hit a house the chassis was bent like a banana so you can imagine what the cab was like They were a ■■■■ motor with that 150 Gardner

hi, I also worked for Brady out of Ellesmere Port and then Northwich after they took over Caffeys, I was still with them when they went down, returning back from tipping somewhere down south, told to take the rig ( I had a new R reg MAN ) up to Barrow, On arrival was told Bradys had gone into administration and we , the drivers , were brought back to Northwich in taxis to collect our own cars and that was that, never did get paid for the last week I worked there which included setting off Sunday as well …

Well I was told by a firm that I subed for a week before Brady,s Went down That it was on the cards then, I must say It was a great shame that a long established firm as they were bit the dust, Regards Larry.

Whats the story here having Ellsmere Port on the trailers instead of Barrow In Furness? And they have changed the colour back to blue!

These were old tautliners that went to boalloy to have a recondition, and we’re shunt trailers for Bridgewater paper ex bowaters factory at ellesmere port and just took reels of newsprint into next door manisty wharf for storage.
Steve.

Thanks again Ste, when I was a teenager I used to love travelling down the ■■■■■■■■ Coast to visit T Brady at Duke Street. At that time a large percentage of their trailers were orange can you remember these orange trailers?

Originally they were orange so the drivers could tell they were the new 40 foot length trailer.
Steve

There is a shot else where on the TN of Nobby Clark coupling up his Mandator to a yellow/orange 30/33ft Boden tandem so the claim that the colour was used to denote a 40ft trailer in later years is bollox ! My own opinion of how the " colour" came about is that The Big’un" drove such a hard bargain he had to agree to let Boden use whatever ■■■■■■ colour of paint they had languishing in the back of their paint store ! Well that’s what I reckon anyway !     Cheers Bewick.

Dennis there are 2 Brady Sks in that book but one says a different name on the doors ,I can’t reach it now or I’d tell you what it says  .
